Random disconnections + everyone leaving

Every so often in an activity or freeroam, everyone will leave and sometimes my party chat will disconnect for a bit and although slightly more rare, i will sometimes get kicked back to single player.

i've had it happen to me about 12 times in the past two hours and though not as bad as this it has been going on for weeks, in every other game/download/stream works perfectly and speedtest tells me im at 18mb/s download speed so i don't think its my internet.

is anyone else getting this?

I changed my DNS and it helped. Though I would check your internet speed as if it's slow 'everyone one will leave' when it's actually your connection in my experience

Yes I get the everyone leaving thingy. It's a mixture of the cloud servers not working and your internet connection being crappy

i was in a session last night of about 12 or so and i claimed a bounty. as soon as i did that the entire session disapeared and i was all alone

i've tested my connection, its not that, unless im getting complete random dropouts for such a small amount of time it f*cks the game but not anything else but i doubt that.

Happens to me every so often and my internet is 48mb/s so I'd guess it's to do with XBL/PSN or the cloud servers.

Having issues connecting to GTA Online? Try these tips.

This issue can be quickly identified as a router problem by first trying to bypass your router. Try connecting directly to your modem via an ethernet cable if you have a separate router and modem. If you happen to have a combination router and modem, please put the device into "Bridge Mode" to bypass the router section.

If this works for you, please try the steps below from my original post. If the steps below do not work but the issue has been identified as a router problem from the steps above, please use the modem exclusively or contact your router manufacturer for further support.

This issue can be quickly solved for most players with the following steps:
1) Disable uPnP in your router settings.
2) Forward the ports listed here to the IP of your console (Sometimes it's good to set your console to a static IP first, as that will mean your console's IP will never change): http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/200525767. This article contains the ports for PS3 and Xbox 360.
3) Restart your console and connect to GTA Online again.

For instructions on how to do this for your particular router, see: http://www.portforward.com

There is also a comprehensive guide here on how to set up DMZ host for your console posted by one of our community members: http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/communities/public/questions/200458713

I finished that sentence in my head before reading it and went more like, "I changed my DNS and got over 9,000 bazillion dollars :D "

OT - I get this quite often. It's really annoying when you're getting into something with other people, be it friendly or otherwise, and suddenly you get the "everyone left" messages fly up the screen. Connection issues are, for me, the biggest problem with this game at the moment and I hope it's something that R* are seriously looking at. It's sometimes the difference between playing for hours on end or just chucking the controller to one side and doing something else instead.

This has happened off and on since GTA Online came out. Unless it happens to you all the time just roll with it, eventually it will stop. Most of the time it's just Rockstar's Cloud Servers acting wonky, and nothing can be done about that.

Happens to me every few days as well. Happened once while I was giving this guy the absolute business. God was looking out for him that day...

Has it occurred to anyone that people leaving a lobby en masse might because they're partaking in a job with others in that lobby? Connections and Server stability are just one aspect.

I might be wrong but I don't believe it shows the "[user] has left" message when somebody goes on a mission. I know if they have a bounty it does the "[user] has dissapeared, if you can find them again..." though.

No, because when it happens it will be the entire lobby. Since the launch of online I've had it happen to me on about a dozen occasions. It even does it when you're on a job or race. You'll see all the racers just stop in their tracks. You'll be able to tell if it's the cloud issue because when you finish the race, it still counts it as a full lobby race and you get the payout for being first. If it is a problem with your internet going down, then you will see all the cars pulled over, but you will be booted from the race 30 seconds later.

if you get the 'unexpected network error' when being kicked to single player, check rockstar support forums for the gateways they use for GTAO and port forward them for your consoles IP adress. you might need to set a static IP first. you can find out how to do all that on google

it fixed all network problems for me.. before that gtao was close to unplayable for me and every other online game worked perfectly

When 15 people "leave the session" at the same time, they're not actually leaving the session. You are.

I'm gonna try my console in a DMZ over the weekend and see if I have any more luck. It doesn't happen loads, but enough for it to be a pain.

I have my game set up with dmz, port forwarded, and upnp disabled. I still get connection issues every couple of days. Unplugging my router and modem for a few minutes and letting them reset helps a ton. What's been getting me more often lately is the "your most previous save cannot be loaded at this time" sh*t.

Err... if it's in a DMZ then you can't port forward or use uPnP. It's equivalent to putting it on your internet connection outside the router.

Oh well. I set it all up through a guide, if dmz bypasses that stuff, then cool.

Yeah, DMZ just lets everything in and out without question. uPnP is supposed to open and close ports as they're required/not in use, but it can be flaky sometimes. Since people aren't hacking PS3s across the internet I personally don't see any reason not to put it in a DMZ. I'm not sure if there's a limit to how many ports uPnP can open though. I doubt it's a factor, but I don't know for sure.

Every forum is the same.

OP- Why do I disconnect all the time?

A- Your internet is sh*t.

OP- No. Can't be that. I have super ultra Mega internetz speed. It's gotta be the game.

A- Face it bro. Your internet is crap.

Furry_Monkey has good advice.

Is your console connected to a router via wireless?

I had the same problem before xmas break, and fixed it by:

1. Update router firmware.

2. Take PS3 off wireless and cable it directly into the router.

3. Give the PS3 a static IP.

4. Put PS3 in the DMZ.

I read somewhere that wireless is the main culprit, and I think that was my problem. I have some wireless security cameras outside my house, which can cause interference. I don't know if putting it in the DMZ helped or not, I didn't test it otherwise as I'm too lazy.

Are you you don't have any NAT restrictions or anything? Even if you have great download speed, it doesn't mean you have great internet because you can download faster.(like p0rn)

Been having the same issue with Public Lobbies only.
Invite Only works fine, mostly. Then again, it has around 4-6 people in it and not 16.
I'm wired, always has been. Internet was always fine until new update. It's seriously affecting my time I put in GTA. I'm back to playing Minecraft, for f*ck sakes.

Happened with me last night. the session was full, I took a Jet Fighter and was watching the skies and the people start leaving and NOBODY was entering the session... I was tired to flying alone, and when I ejected my plane and gone to a clothe shop... Ta Daaaa, 6, 6 players entered like magic... and my jet... I lost it... I left the session.

Has nothing to do with the user side conection. This is a server based problem. No matter what you do to your connection, this problem will continue until rockstar decides that fixing the actual problems in the game is important enough.

I just wish they would put as much emphasis in fixing the real problems as they did in the money wipe. Ridiculous.
