I know I got it. ;)

 

But yeah if it weren't for that I'd be under water right now. Most of the country was actually sea.

Australia and the Netherlands should hook up, you have too much water and we don't have enough.

 

My grandfather actually married a Dutch girl back while ww2 was going on. It's a pretty sad storey though. He was an oz soldier that got captured by the nazis. He and a few mates escaped and hooked up with some Dutch resistance fighters. One of them was a woman called Nina. They met and got married within a few weeks while doing the underground thing. She got killed two or so weeks after by some type of bomb/ explosion. We only found out this storey after he died from things his friends said and from his diaries.

 

My best friend for years was also Dutch. She tried to introduce me to your Rollmops but I have to say I still can't stomach even the thought of them. Raw fish? What are you lunatics thinking of? :)

 

 

 

Yeah lots of sad stories from those days. Thankfully the worst one in my family is my grandfather having his radio and bicycle stolen by the Nazis. I don't know rollmops, maybe it's a regional name or something, but if you're talking abour raw herring then I know what you mean. I do like the taste of them but it stays in your mouth for hours and no amount of gum or brushing your teeth will fix it, so I tend to stay away from them. It's the kind of thing I only eat like once or twice a year.

 

Australia is at the top of destinations where I want to travel, I love arid climates. I'm completely fine in 40 degrees heat as well. I usually go to southern Spain or Italy because it's relatively close by, but in terms of natural beauty those places don't even come close to Australia. It's a shame the plane ticket costs a fortune.

I'm not interested in Brazil, my lady is from Argentina and says Brazil is...less than desirable...

 

haha...Im American and live in Thailand,and before lived in Argentina and Brasil...Brasilians hate Argies and vice/versa...but IMO Argentina sucks donkey balls compared to Brasil...Argies are some of the rudest people Ive ever met...they dont call it the "France of S.America" for nothing

 

Not to mention Argie cuisine is the worst...well British cuisine is the worst...Argie is a close 2nd

UInfortunately, there may be if the 2015 elections go the wrong way..

 

and I'm sure all the protections for workers rights that are basically enshrined in EU law would be so easy to give up..

 

Let's face facts here, the reasons that Europe are hated is because it essentially provides a barrier to certain parties carrying out their agendas to their logicial conclusions.. and trust me, they're not interested in what's good for the people..

It's not so bad to be an EU member as long as you don't use the Euro, which I don't think the UK will start to do. It's a voluntary organization for countries to participate in, but when you use their currency it's not so voluntary anymore because the strength of your currency is entirely dependant on what happens in other countries. If things start to go badly in Europe, the UK can distance itselves from the trouble much more easily because it has its own currency.

I'm from Holland and there are careful talks about a referendum here as well. If I could I would vote for the option to leave the Euro behind and switch back to guilders, while if possible still staying in the EU. If that's not acceptable to the EU then I would vote to leave it.
