[XBOX] Best of Player Made Races playlist

Hey guys, with the new forum, another attempt to get this rolling, for the PS3 initiative look here:

I've made a playlist containing the best races I've found so far, but would like to expand on it to really get it to contain the very best player made races.

So I've come up with a little competition;

1. Add the playlist named Best of Player Made Races from http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/member/dratomic1/games/gtav/playlists/ (direct link that isnt working for everyone: http://socialclub.rockstargames.com/games/gtav/playlists#playlist/xaa61DoNVUWj9TJdhAsRoQ )
2. Play the playlist
3. Nominate one job that needs to be removed
4. Nominate one job that needs to be added
5. Jobs need to facilitate a minimum of 6 players.
6. I will play a nominated job to check if it's worthy/playable, i'll try to be as objective as I can when doing so.
7. You're not allowed to nominate your own job (for quality's sake and spam prevention).

Nominations are processed once the playlist has gone up by 1 play, after the previous nominations have been processed (i.e. after my post).

Jobs that will be considered need to be:

  • challenging however drivable and enjoyable tracks with reasonable total distance
  • clearly intuitive and reasonable check point position (so you know exactly where you have to go, instead of feeling lost in a maze)
  • the route playable and tested for ALL the cars/bikes available (I mean, FE test if a non-custom lower class coupe can get through your amazing race, there're tastes for every car, so don't let ppl down if their car just cannot make it through bcs of the narrow passages or impossible jumps. If half of the cars in that category cannot make it - just get rid of that class and don't waste other players time)
  • ramp positioned neatly without any gaps or rubbish in front of it (so if you put it for bikes as well - test it well before releasing)
  • description is clear, witty and relevant (not just 2 words or even nothing at all)
  • designed for use in GTA mode too (as it can't be turned off in the editor, simply resorting to owned weapons without pickups is frustrating if you want to play a certain race on GTA mode).
  • those races that make you eager to play it again and again

With regards of taste and personal preference;

I tried to create a mix with all types of jobs; also keeping vehicle variety in mind; personally I play them on their default settings (as the creator intended) with the exception of Mud in your Eye where we set that back to 1 lap as 2 laps is way too much).

Current content:
3x long races (Autostrada Los Santos, Los Santos Autobahn, Coast to Coast)
3x quick circle races (Hippodrome, LSC Great 8, CPB: Le Grand Huit!)
1x Special race (Atomic Delivery)
2x Offroad races (Flat River, Mud in your eye)
2x Technical races (Maze Bank Arena Motor GT, Insufficient Funds)

Let's find those gems together!!!!

Races taken out:
FlatLander http://rsg.ms/1c1n1VT (track layout causes frustation when players are racing Sanchez versus Sandking)
Coast to Coast http://rsg.ms/1cmazQm (been done too many times and most players have allready played one of these, the length makes it a snore fest, out of place on the playlist)
Maze Bank Arena Motor GP http://rsg.ms/1bWolPw (first timers struggle too much seeing the checkpoints due to the track layout (there are plenty of checkpoints).

Races added:

Santos City Circuit II http://rsg.ms/LTXhG0 (ugh on the description, no GTA mode, not a very exciting name, but a damn good muscle car race)

i have already uploaded that playlist earlier and will be running it in about an hour. We are limited to one change I imagine?

I would be interested to know what you thought of some of the work in the "RedRum Racing Presents..." playlist on my page as well. It is a spread of crew work...not all mine.

I'm online myself atm as well, happy to join on both playlist (send me a message or direct invite so i can join session on you: GT: DrAtomic1)

Edit: 12 sports car races, 1 super car, 1 motorcycle and 1 muscle car race bit too heavy on the sports cars the Red Rum list, some good races in there though, full comments coming in private.

OK, time for feedback...strictly my personal opinions of course.

First off good work on descriptions and such...shows thought.

Second, I have no opinion on any of the GTA set up...I don't do GTA in a race. I do GTA in non-race type tracks...just personal preference. So I know you will comment on any of mine that were not set up for it but oh well.

Autostrada Los Santos - Don't depend on traffic to make a race good. This is just a freeway loop...nothing wrong with that specifically...the checkpoints are well placed but I'm not sure it is "best of" material...especially as the opening act. I up voted.

Atomic Delivery - I have no problem with a faggio race in general but having it start off with such a long straight on a 4 lane road seemed kinda dull. The second half was good. back alley tight areas that work well with the speed of the ride. The first half sort of tainted it for me though. I down voted.

Flat River - Not a bad idea. It might have worked better if it was limited to certain vehicles. I hit it with my custom Bifta and the first thing I did was drown. No Voted

Hippodrome - Really? If you want to go and reenact Ben Hur that's cool and all but it certainly is not "best of" material. There is not one single obstacle or jump or slalom or anything ...it is just a loop around the horsetrack...done 10000 times in various fashions. Down Voted.

Maze Bank Arena Motor GT - Waaay too many checkpoints. Fairly simple layout made more difficult by the checkpoints being so close together you get no warning about upcoming turns unless your hounding the minimap. Down Voted.

Mud in Your Eye - The first 2/3rds is fine...decent checkpoints occasional barriers, quirky little road...but then it is like the creator got bored and or couldn't figure out where to go from there and decided to cross the mountain latitudinally across the face...which in a 4 wheel vehicle is a pain in the ass. No Voted.

Los Santos Autobahn - Again, don't depend on traffic to make a race. Another freeway another boring lap. Not to mention it is long as hell. Not really great idea to put such long races in a playlist. (I do have one in the RRR list but it isn't highway) Again nothing really wrong with it but...No Vote.

LSC Great 8 - Short, sweet, simple yet still challenging. Waypoints are good Props are good. Up Voted.

Insufficient Funds - My favorite of the playlist. Excellent layout, Excellent waypoints. Just the right mix of technical and speed. Very nice. Up Voted.

Coast to Coast - Really? 15 MORE miles of freeway in the same playlist? Sorry man but it was all I could do not to quit the list when this one came up...but I wanted to see the final track. No Voted.

CPB: Le Grand Huit! - So glad I didn't quit. (sarcasm) Not a thing wrong with this very simple and very short figure 8 on the runway...but after 15 miles of falling asleep at the wheel I was glad I had set it to only one lap. No Vote.

Sorry if it comes off as harsh...but you did ask for feedback...I expect the same honesty in return.

To be fair...none of these tracks were garbage. Only one I would really consider bad. The rest were personal taste issues and the fact that it was called a "best of" list.

The reasoning behind this mix is that most players I have met, especially those leveling up, seem to have a liking for long duration races and circle races. Where as experienced racers tend to prefer technical races, races where it comes down to pure driving skill.

Then there are two jobs in this mix that have been created hundreds if not thousands of times, Coast to Coast and Hippodrome. Judging from that people felt that especially with regard to the Coast to Coast one that such content was missing from the game. That indicates a need, or does it? If you have played one of those you have seen them all and the question is do you want to replay it. I'm not too sure about that one.

Bring it on, can't have enough honesty!

Autostrada Los Santos - Don't depend on traffic to make a race good. This is just a freeway loop...nothing wrong with that specifically...the checkpoints are well placed but I'm not sure it is "best of" material...especially as the opening act. I up voted.

Chosen as opening act because it allows players to settle in, chat a bit whilst racing, get to know each other a little bit and start having fun without being thrown into a highly technical skills test. It's a pretty simple race.

Atomic Delivery - I have no problem with a faggio race in general but having it start off with such a long straight on a 4 lane road seemed kinda dull. The second half was good. back alley tight areas that work well with the speed of the ride. The first half sort of tainted it for me though. I down voted.

It's something different, original and well made. I agree that the race opening is a bit long, but i have played that race with 6 people and then the room is clearly needed to settle a race order before going into the more technical fun bit of the race. You also seem to pass a couple of food chains in the first bit, I guess it was the creators idea that you picked up the food before delivering it to Franklin's Aunts house (judging from the description and my own imagination).

Flat River - Not a bad idea. It might have worked better if it was limited to certain vehicles. I hit it with my custom Bifta and the first thing I did was drown. No Voted

I can't remember what I used the first couple of times, but the last time I played this myself I ran into the same issue with the Bifta. It does have a true offroad feel to it though and is very well made imho.

Hippodrome - Really? If you want to go and reenact Ben Hur that's cool and all but it certainly is not "best of" material. There is not one single obstacle or jump or slalom or anything ...it is just a loop around the horsetrack...done 10000 times in various fashions. Down Voted.

It's on here, just because it's been done 10000 times. There is a distinct portion of the player base that likes circle races. Judging it with it being a circle race in mind, I have to say the checkpoint layout is nicely done and thumbs up to the creator for actually choosing Offroad vehicles on a dirt track as the default class instead of Super cars. As a circle race, in offroad vehicles, I think it works and works well.

Maze Bank Arena Motor GT - Waaay too many checkpoints. Fairly simple layout made more difficult by the checkpoints being so close together you get no warning about upcoming turns unless your hounding the minimap. Down Voted.

Funny, because that is exactly how I feel about this job. I threw it on here because my friends asked for it and I needed a technical race that was still doable and not a frustration ride. This job has been created by myself and was the very first race I published myself (first one I created was what is now know as LS Forums). I am of the opinion however that it isnt so much a case of there being too many checkpoints as it is a problem with the track layout itself which causes the checkpoint vision issue (i've tried it with less and ended up adding waypoints for clarities sake). The number of checkpoints are very similar to the number Rockstar uses themselves, next checkpoint clearly visible when driving. The real issue is not being able to see the second checkpoint ahead, again I think that's due to track layout. I never thought of this race as a good race myself, but as said it went on there by request. One complaint is enough in my book to scrap it. So it's off the list as we speak. :)

No Voted.

First couple of times I played this myself I used a Sanchez, and it's great fun on a Sanchez. Last time I played it I used a Bifta and I agree, the race turned into a frustration ride more so then an enjoyable experience, especially since we left it on 2 laps by accident. I'm not too keen on this job myself. Ill ask JohnTaper who is part of a crew dedicated to offroad races to nominate some alternatives.

I think your main complaint with this stems from the playlist being too heavy on endurance racing with regards to the length. This race is my personal favorite with regards to Super car based endurance races as it does take skill and isnt a brainless flatout throttle down. Turning off traffic makes these kinds of races with only a few players a drag though and boring. I know you dont like traffic being on as the AI can be a real ass with what seems to be preprogrammed take outs but turning traffic off on these types of races quickly turns them into a bore.

LSC Great 8 - Short, sweet, simple yet still challenging. Waypoints are good Props are good. Up Voted.

Big fan of this myself. Kinda gives the Down the Drain feel. Great fun on motorcycles too.

Insufficient Funds - My favorite of the playlist. Excellent layout, Excellent waypoints. Just the right mix of technical and speed. Very nice. Up Voted.

Agreed very fun and balanced race.

Coast to Coast - Really? 15 MORE miles of freeway in the same playlist? Sorry man but it was all I could do not to quit the list when this one came up...but I wanted to see the final track. No Voted.

I feel jah, and I'm really on the fence with it. Having played way too many of these round the world races, I feel like I've seen it and done it and have no need to do it again in quite some time. Especially in this currently 11 job playlist (10 after dropping my job) it is way too much. Maybe it's ok to keep it in if we stretch the playlist to 16 jobs (i'll convo you tonight to drain ideas from your pool of encounters). On the flip side of the coin however, this was clearly a race that was missing from the Rockstar arsenal, which doesnt have a pure round the world race. Maybe we should just remove it on the basis that it's out of place on a playlist like how we would not include drag races.

CPB: Le Grand Huit! - So glad I didn't quit. (sarcasm) Not a thing wrong with this very simple and very short figure 8 on the runway...but after 15 miles of falling asleep at the wheel I was glad I had set it to only one lap. No Vote.

As circle races go this one (it's an eight but jeah) is well made and great fun on multiple laps with GTA mode on (because it is short the person getting the first kills in wont be able to get away without being retaliated on). The name and descrfiption all in french which clearly sucks. My guess (which can be wrong) is that this race will be one of the favorites amongst circle race lovers. We'll see if we get someone like that to play the playlist and give us feedback.

Sorry if it comes off as harsh...but you did ask for feedback...I expect the same honesty in return.

Harsh? Not at all. I could have written most of the comments myself, hence my quest to find better jobs and hopefully end up with a 16 job playlist that includes 16 jobs that are all beating the Rockstar verified jobs flat out.

While I do enjoy a strong mix of tracks (you might try my Rocking Rural Remix playlist) I have found that trying to please too many people at once can result in not pleasing anyone. Most drivers here have a taste for one thing or another and varying from that taste very far will incur more down votes. I tend to provide enough options that the people who look at my playlist will know which ones are for them...dirt, special, street and mixed all clear in the titles.

My opinion on the freeway races are that they were not in the rockstar aresenal because they were not needed. They get made so very often by creators for several reasons. They are simple enough for anyone to make, they can be used as sources for rp and cash with minimal driving skill needed, and frankly the fact that it was not a rockstar made option made it unique for a lot of the people who made it at the time they did. Only after they realized that 1000 other people had the same idea and it wasnt so inventive.

Also the effort you put into sort of roleplaying the playlist was lost on me...like starting with a simple track to allow people to settle in and get to know each other. Had i known that I might have been slightlydifferent in my comments.

Not so much roleplaying as trying to allow a friendly atmosphere from the get go instead of highly competitive one.
