Paid DLC - Cash Cards, an observation

1.25 million GTA Cash Card - $20

3.5 million GTA Cash Card - $50

The Lost and Damned DLC (when released) - $20

The Ballad of Gay Tony (when released) - $20

____________________________________________________________

I'm all for cash cards, I think they are a good thing to have and a quick way to make money for the company. But it's also a lazy way, something that takes 2 minutes to add (or code in), something that people will lose in less than a week, and something (which is a shame) that is necessary in order to not grind for hours.

They are overly expensive compared to other full DLC's that offer more for the bucks. (For example BioShock Infinite which offers more story, Undead Nightmare which offers a whole new take on the game, Episodes of Liberty City which was by far a milestone for DLCs)

There's the arguments which are "don't buy them, you aren't being forced". But are we? How hard is it right now to make that 3.5 million. The heists which have been delayed over and over was supposed to be the only good way to make that money. And the economy even with the reset is still messed up. People have made 40m+ still with glitching even after the reset (LSC glitch), before that Mixed Up with Coke and Rooftop Rumble were another way to glitch money. And none of those people have had their money reset. So they pretty much have that over $1,000 of cash cards on one account and nothing is being done to remove that money. So then it's up to the gamers to decide. Is that really worth the purchase?

I'm not saying Cash Cards are bad. They are good because they support the company and what the company stands for. So by all means BUY cash cards if you want to support R*. But what about if you just want quick cash, why are cash cards the same price as a full downloadable content (the Ballad of Gay tony, The Lost and Damned) when those games had so much more to offer.

This isn't really a complaint, but a mere observation. I would really like to see paid DLC, as that would not hurt the in-game economy but make it better. In-game cash could feel as if it were actually "worth" more than the "rich gamer", and with paid DLC, it would add more than just "something you can already get by grinding", plus it wouldn't hurt the economy at all. It's just laziness by the company.

The way I look at it - I can afford to pay for cash cards, I have little patience to grind missions, therefore, I buy them when I need them.

You either buy them or you don't - at the end of the day, it's not going to matter either way - R* will ALWAYS get your money one way or another. (see OP)

I like to think, that by buying them, you're helping fund the DLC we're all screaming out for, but again, it's a personal choice, you do or you don't

I also don't see why those of us who do, should be subject to the childish abuse we always receive :D

Just as well I've got a thick skin.

R* likes to cater to bad players.

Can't aim? here: Two forms of auto aim.

Can't race? here: Have catch up!

Can't handle playing the game and making cash? here: Buy cash cards.

Personally everyone i know has not had any issues making money. And the current gifting of modded cash just made the game even easier with cash. Everyone owns everything they want. So what does anyone need soo much money for?

I think todays generation of kids just love staring at high numbers with dollar signs infront of them. YoLo and all that..

I have never had a problem with cash cards. I never felt as thought R* forced me to purchase them and if others feel they need them then let them buy em. No skin of my sac. Although i do agree that they are stupidly overpriced.

I don't think R* is being lazy, GTAO is in such early stages right now and most of that has been devoted to dealing with the cloud aswell as with the hackers and glitches. I believe that R* still has a lot planned for it, including DLC. Maybe not on the scale of TBOGT or LOTD but more assets and modes that integrate more organically into the game world, making it even more immersive and interactive.

On the price of cash cards: did it ever occur to anyone they're priced that way yet R* doesn't take all of the cut? Just saying, as I doubt the Xbox or Playstation stores aren't making a penny on them, let alone anyone else involved in the transaction process, hence it's ridiculously priced.

That being said, Whale Shark Card is £30 over here, don't see how it's pried like a brand new game in the US.

Besides.. Most player won`t buy cash cards while most player will buy the DLC.

I think players think cash is sooo important and hard to come by due to their perception and play style. I myself have never had cash issues so I just can`t relate to broke players fussing over cash.

You know what my generation loves? Playing a game where it's not 2 steps forward and 8 steps back.

Two survivals won't even get you a f*cking turbo, i used 80k on transmissions alone in the last few hours.

Money isn't hard to get, no sh*t, the fact that it's slow and tedious just to have it disappear is the problem i have. That is the reason i'd buy cash cards, couldn't be bothered repeating a mission over and over and over and over and over and over and watch it go to nothing.

I'm lvl 133, you really think doing the same missions at that rank is appealing?

Hence, you sound like the prefect sucker for cash cards. Look at how you type and think.

Two survivals not enough to pay for turbo?. You hate doing the same missions?

Thing is, every game ever made 'EVER' is all about doing the same sh*t over and over again. So if yo don't enjoy playing why play?

I've made close to 9 mill from racing alone. Factor in missions, death matches, survivals and other random free roam jobs. I was rich even before the gifted cash.

Now... I barely have any reason to even care about money. Refill my ammo? A few races and im good for a week when it comes to ammo.

I did LSC and had my money reset.

Although I already had bought all I ever wanted even before the hacking mania, I still overly indulged myself in buying, testing and selling cars so I possibly dipped quite a bit into my previous earnings with the hacked money, leaving me with 750k when the purge happened.

I've seen reports of people who did/didn't do the LSC glitch, but didn't receive hacked money/didn't play and kept their assets as a result. So it's not a complete reset for everyone, just people who received modded cash.

I don't really mind since I got adders in my secondary garage as backup, and racing for a few hours will always net a hundred grand or more at least, without any ammo loss. But I will definitely stop playing when I hit back 10mil, at least until the heists are released. Not much point playing when there aren't any meaningful content update. Been playing since launch so I had definitely had my fun, so I'm not bitter in any way and I'll definitely return when the heists are out.

Regarding the microtransactions, I think it's mostly due to Rockstar trying to make GTAO run itself rather than having to dump more cash into the project than they already have. I think it's also inexperience on their part. Generally cash stores in online games go either of two ways : Pay to Win or Cosmetic/ Convenient.

Now both can do fairly ok depending on the game. Games like Planetside 2 being essentially P2W do alright with it since the game is essentially a massive FPS online. Customization is not all that crucial (althought they still do offer it to a certain degree).

I think Rockstar given its open world theme and RPG elements should have gone the customization route. I would feel more happy spending little amounts of money regularly on options like "special vehicles", "special paintjobs", "recreate character", "apartment customs", "special/event clothes", "dyes" , "tattoos", "new weapon jobs",etc... rather than just buying derp cash. They could also try to include convenient stuff like "no cool down for mechanic passes", etc...not sure exactly how'd they go about it for GTAO, but I'm sure it's doable without being over the top.

Because ultimately people stick if they feel involved in the game, but buying your way to the top only means one thing. Once you're there, you're done with the game and most likely move on.

You might get quicker, bigger bucks from having a Pay to Win model, but the cosmetic is all about the long run money. Plus you don't get people moaning about how the cash store is for "p2w noobs" all while raging at the developers for being corrupt, etc.

Ultimately all of this doesn't matter, it's up to Rockstar to decide how they go about financing their online project. Besides, cash cards or not, without a real content update people are going to get bored of the stale gameplay. Even if they only just joined this christmas,

I do agree they're over priced. But even if they weren't, I still will never buy them. Paid DLC, sure. (Well, maybe in their case. They need to get a handle on all these glitches and hacks first.)

Different ppl and different ways of looking at gaming. R* is attracting a wide range of people in this game, and how and why we play will differ.

If you are young and in school, you might have plenty of time to play the game, but not the income to support cash cards.

If you are older, got a couple of kids, a demanding high paying job, you might not be able to play that often. But you might need/want it to relax from a otherwise demanding life. In that case you might just go ahead and buy some R$, and instead of spendng hours of grinding you spend the time enjoying whatever you wanna do.

Personally i see great potential in this game, and i think dlc will be a big part years to come.

I think today's generation of kids just love staring at high numbers with dollar signs infront of them. YoLo and all that.. <--IMO with the growth of the internet and social media, the online gaming industry was transformed into an achievement based one. So unfortunately, the gaming industry has conditioned the younger generation of online gamers to think a certain way (aka a quid pro quo mindset) when it comes to gaming. I seriously doubt if any of them would feel any satisfaction from playing any of the older (pre 2000) games. Or any sandbox games which require a good deal of creativity to make your own goals. Because games like that don't have achievements attached to them. :/

you know what else is stupid, when you buy the turbo, if you wanna change your mind, you have to pay again. I don't think it's like that with the gun upgrades

it's a cheap and easy way of squeezing those extra $'s out of your customers

why invest in actually making some good content when you can sell a bunch of 1's and 0's and make a 100% profit on every sale

worst part is there's plenty of idiots falling for it.

sh*t like this could ruin gaming IMO, like I said before free2play microtransaction BS might be good for some games but keep that sh*t out of my AAA titles, I paid good money for this sh*t
