houndmachinima
Hey guys! I've got a problem with the clip capture feature (tested on IV and EFLC). When I used it on my old PC: Intel Dual Core 2ghz, 3gb of RAM, two HDDs (5400rpm) and a HD5670, I used to get the recommended clip capture length (around 20-40 seconds depending on locale). The problem I have now is that I just bought a new computer with these specs: AMD FX Six core, 8gb 1600mhz RAM and a single 1tb HDD (7200rpm) with HD7770. I can play smoothly on high settings, and generally the PC is responsive and runs other games seemingly well. Running on Windows 7 64 bit. With this new setup (no parts recycled, all new build), I barely get around from 10 to 17 second long clips. UPDATE: Tested capturing in the Diner Cafe - got average 8 second clips. When I "fly off" with a helicopter, I can barely get to the 30 second mark. I am using the newest patches, minor mods, no ENB's or texture replacements. Exactly the same issue happens on GTA IV and EFLC. I also tried to use the lowest possible settings and lowest draw distance - no change. Basically, I'm using the same game setup I used on the old PC, except this time I can actually run the game on high settings. I have ~700gb of free space on the drive, turned off most background apps. Please, if you have any tips or tweaks for this "mysterious" issue, be sure to post! P.S. Yes, I can easily "spam" the F2 key and record hundreds of clips to capture enough footage, but the thing that bugs me the most is that I bought a pretty solid machine and this cr*p happens. radioman
First off, instead of worrying about the built in clip capture the game comes with, wouldn't it be A LOT easier to just use an external program like Fraps to record, that way you get clips as long as you want (hard drive permitting) and then just use Windows Movie Maker to convert/edit the videos. This method works with ALL games and not just IV/EFLC. This would make the most sense-LOL Next, The mods might be causing problems in your game, so try a fresh install WITHOUT mods and see if problem persists? Sadly, I'm one of those people that use the in-game clip capture and video editor to "direct" their videos. I already use Fraps for recording the final video (to avoid rendering). This is not an issue of methods, so let's just say that I absolutely need to get this fixed and there are no alternatives, but thank you for the suggestion anyways. radioman
Have you tried revoking the license, do a complete un-install, delete the rest of the install directory that did not get deleted by the traditional un-install, then re-install and try the game without mods and see if problem persists? Cause 99% of the time (and a moderator even said this in the troubleshooting topic in GTA III), it is mods that cause problems with the game.. Just reinstalled GTA IV, used no mods on the fresh install and the same problem persists - clips are just 12-17 seconds long, and sometimes even below 10 seconds. I also checked the recorded clip file size in My Documents, and the the largest clips are weirdly "caped" at exactly 128 MB. radioman
If i'm not mistaken, the clip capture goes by how much "action" is going on on the screen at the time-ie. if there is a lot of action going on at the time, then the clips will be short and like wise if there is not much action, then they will be longer? It is more than likely done this way to cut down on resource usage..?

It is more than likely done this way to cut down on resource usage..? Yes, I actually did some thorough tests and I could surprisingly get a MIND BLOWING length of 33 seconds! While on top of a sky scrapper, alone, on lowest settings possible! The same might be said about beaches and the ocean, but it's very shaky in that regard. I need someone to explain me how 8 gigs of fast ram can't handle what 3 gigs of slower ram did perfectly. I know for a fact that a large majority of players already own more then 3 gigs by now, so everyone's running 64 bit Windows, same as me, so that could not be a troubling factor. As I stated before, I could make videos perfectly well even with this problem, but the fact that I almost EXCLUSIVELY bought a new PC just to make my hobby more ENJOYABLE, and in turn got WORSE than before is the fact why I'm typing some words in all caps..
