MarshalMoo
Hi, everyone. I'm taking a trip or two in the next few months via planes from inside the U.S. to another state and also to another country. I haven't flown for a few years and I'm confused what is prohibited to carry on, so I'd like to hear what you all have gotten away with. Are needles allowed? Tweezers? Seeds? Of course, the most trouble you get into is coming back to the U.S. Just driving across the border from Canada to the U.S., I had a small bag of lentils thrown out because they were viable seeds. Frozen solid oranges got thrown out, too. Of course, getting on a plane, I forgot about some over 3.4 ounce bottle of liquid and it got thrown out. What if I want to buy a nice umbrella with a pointy tip? I feel like the TSA will confuse it for a spear, even if it has Hello Kitty on it or something. Someone please correct me. El Dildo
they're not going to confiscate your pointy umbrella. as for the bulk of your concerns, you should probably just double-check the website of your carrier and find out exactly what is and is not allowed for carry-on. which airline are you taking? just check their rules online and plan accordingly. the TSA has uniform standards for carry-on but individual airports and carriers will apply those standards in slightly different ways. theadmiral
No one has had experiences where TSA confiscated your stuff? I've had things confiscated many times. I borrowed a friends backpack once that I thought was entirely empty and when I went through security they all started looking serious and pulled me aside. They questioned me about the bag for about five minutes asking if I had anything metal or sharp. I said no. Then they pulled out some super tiny drill bit from a pocket and looked at me smugly like I was some kind of liar. I've had shaving gel, shampoo, and other toiletries confiscated. When I was coming back from a trip to Peru I had a specific kind of tea confiscated and also some woven souvenirs confiscated. On another occasion when I reentered the USA from the Netherlands I was practically strip searched for no good reason. Didn't have anything and there was no problem. MarshalMoo
One of my acquaintances just got back from a business trip to Costa Rica and got pulled aside and questioned. He may or may not have looked like an old hippie. The TSA said it was because of body odor. He missed his flight.
