How to combat a good jet pilot?

Ran into one today. The guy was good. Owned the skies for a solid half hour. He'd dive bomb ground targets so that they were out of a tank's firing arc, as well as being difficult to scratch with rifles.

 

What's the best way to pull a jet (or 2-3 that're keeping heli pads locked down) out of the air?

If he's good ...hide or find a new session. Unless your good as well, then go get a jet and dogfight. That is unless he's just going after you, in that case if he's good he'll kill you before you can steal one.

I use the minigun if he's a low flyer which probably means he's an armature. But a good pilot keeps distince between him and the ground, heavy sniper does a good job, a few shots too the engine and you're good. I consider myself a good jet pilot, the heavy sniper is my worst enemy haha

Heavy sniper is best option, sometimes if you're VERY lucky , you can go off radar , take off in a buzzard and missile a jet before he knows you're there.

However, mostly if a jet pilot is good it's their lobby and you have to suck it up or leave.

That's why I'm mostly working on my pilot skills right now.

I'm gonna nitpick on this one. That would be combatting his killing spree (or, ability to kill you) but not the pilot himself.

However, mostly if a jet pilot is good it's their lobby and you have to suck it up or leave.

That's why I'm mostly working on my pilot skills right now.

That's the vibe I'm getting both through experience and the responses here (though I will try heavy sniper/minigun when I unlock them). Didn't have much luck sneaking off to grab my buzzard, heh. And people cry about tanks!

One thing you can try is use Lester's off the radar, or just get a Buzzard from somewhere else and approach him.

Get to the skyscrapers in the middle of the city in a Buzzard and weave/strafe between them, making sure you're rotating to keep facing him, whilst firing rocket after rocket. That's what I'd do. Or try to do at least. It's worked a couple of times but I can't vouch for the skill level of those brave fools. They were no Sullenbergers.

Unlike a noobish Tank griefer that's virtually protected from just about anything, and just has to point, and shoot it's damn turret near a target. Not much skill in that.

I'm a pretty good pilot, I agree with you. I don't consider myself the best so I don't wanna sound like I'm bragging. I stick to dogfights while the other noobs battle with tanks on the ground

You are combatting the pilot, as in, you are repelling his attacks.

He cannot attack you in a tunnel, therefore you are combating him.

That's not how you combat a jet pilot, that's how you combat dying. Big difference.

Mate, why not send a PM to Deffpony? He posts in every jet thread about how great he is at dogfighting. It is entirely possible he'll be able to tell you how to beat legendary jet pilots who are at the top of their trade. Cheers!

I sniped a jet down this way. He blew up my friend and then I got him and he exploded as he flew over. Then we spawn raped for awhile, you know the usual.

When I'm not flying, I'll snipe out a plane. If you're a great sniper, aim for the horizontal stabilizers.

However, most people don't usually know what to do when they see the great jet pilots.

Best thing to do is avoid them and get away as quick as possible. Other than sniper rifles, Rhino guns, and miniguns for low-flyers, there's not much you can do to take on a jet fighter.

In all of the time I've played Online, I think I've been shot down less than 5 times by ground players. I'd like to know who the best pilots are though, just to see how I stack up to them. Lol, I guess I'd consider myself one of the best pilots online: Most of my Deathmatch wins are Fort Zancudo... lost twice though.

EDIT: If I were you OP, I'd seek out an Ace and get some advice about how to fly a jet like a pro. I learned from playing Ace Combat when I was a kid. Lol

it's funny i just killed two bountys who were hiding on a train....

one of em shot at me while i was landing me titan...so i stole a jet dun em in....very satisfying destroying the train.

If the pilots good enough I don't believe you can do anything but go indoors/underground or change session. Love bounty hunting in this you can get to everyone so quick.

My only question is why didn't they include a stat for player kills with the machine guns? I feel I'd be somewhere around 200+ with over 15 tanks, not bragging I just spend a lot of time in the jet after I discovered the machine guns.

Get on a rooftop. Whip out the Heavy Sniper.

 

You probably aren't going to get the pilot but if you hit the fuselage enough, you will bring it down. If the pilot does not eject, the kill will be yours when he crashes.

This may work with a poor pilot, but this thread is about a good pilot. Using the minigun against a 'good' pilot will only result in you losing all your minigun ammo when you get killed.

What tips do you jet experts have on how to use the machine gun? I find it hard to zero in into someone close enough to see/target them without flying too low and exposing myself to get shot down.

If your going on a strafing run with the machine guns, it's best to have the area where the foe is to be wide open when your starting to dive bomb to get into the position I find it helpful to start the machine guns and lightly move my nose back n forth and in a little circle. Or Up and down as I'm about to Bank up and gain altitude.

I've killed tons of people on the ground with the guns this way.

Also, they're called MISSiles for a reason. Guns Guns Guns baby...

I concur with fellow members who said to use the heavy sniper rifle. A few shots and that jet is going to crash.
