Infuriating.

 

I actually used to enjoy this portion of the game, grabbing that easy $$ and RP or having epic battles.

 

Now it's nothing but a huge green dot on my screen.

 

Is the Crate ever going to come?

 

No, the crate is never ever going to come.

 

I assume because this has nothing to do with cash cards this will never get fixed?!

It's random. sometimes it comes, sometimes not.

Hell, I haven't even SEEN a green dot since like, 1.08, yet I've found at least 10 random crate flares scattered around sandy shores, with a crate that's breakable, and drops a smaller box that gives you NOTHING.

 

I've also never once seen a special crate drop but my friend who was in the same lobby said he saw it, and we went there, I broke it, couldn't pick it up, but he could.

 

This game's great.

I fought with about four people for one crate in the desert... after two hours i forgot it, because it never came.

I got a crate last night, it was quite a full lobby and not one single person was heading towards it.

This is the only time I'm happy their too busy trying to kill each other 24/7!

It's true that sometimes the crate never comes. It doesn't matter if anyone is close to it or not. It's just a glitch.

i was going thru my stats and noted it says crate drop is locked for me. they used to appear but dont anymore.

Not very interested in the cash, RP and minigun as I can get all of those in other ways.

 

As for the free t-shirt, not sure if you're joking or not. Would be cool if you got a "I fought off hordes of players and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" shirt. :p

the crate is glitched cause of someone with a crappy connection to the lobby. private lobbies, crates show up all the time just like armored trucks and simeon cars but public lobbies are laggy so those things don't show up as much cause of crappy player connections

I got a T shirt in the first special crate I got, I think it was called the Los Santos Belle or something like that.

Ive had RPG's, mini guns and rocket launchers from them, basically weapons from levels a lot higher than I could currently buy.

Once the ammo supplied with them runs out they disappear, but it gives you a taster/teaser of whats ahead.

Just checked my awards,

The first special crate you collect gets the Salvager award, that is what unlocks the T shirt.

I'm currently on 18/25 for the Crate chaser award

Ok so if I'm not interested in anything I can obtain in other ways, only the special crate drops are worth going after? Only the first one for the t-shirt, or do you get exclusive stuff from the second and so on as well?

Is the t-shirt already viewable in the store, with the unlock conditions mentioned below or is it actually added to the store?

Are the special crate drops random or do they only happen during events or something?

Im not sure if the T shirt is viewable in the store before its unlocked.

Once you get the crate it unlocks it so you can go to a store and buy it.

If you look here at the bottom you can see the design

Ive had about half a dozen special crates, they always seem to have a combination of cash, RP or weapons you've not unlocked yet.

As for frequency, it seems to be totally random but you have more chance of getting them in a busy lobby.

Special crates always have a few gang members guarding them which are easy to pick off.

Some of my best moments online have been close races for crates with other players, literally one on one death matches as each of you try to get to it, shoot it open and collect while the other is shooting at you! Add in the gang members too on a special one and its a good challenge

Any other items like this that can be unlocked through crate drops (or in any other non-obvious ways)?

I've seen a few recently in the past few days. Usually right when i get back from doing a job, and its always just the little green box with the question mark. I don't know if I just happen to come in after the crate actually drops and the green circle is gone or what, but I haven't had that issue recently. And these have all been in relatively full sessions too.

When a normal crate is going to drop you will get a "Crate inbound" or "A crate is about to drop" message.

You can then look straight on the map and there will be a green circle. Those are the ones everyone then heads for and stops them from spawning by hunting around the circle for them!

Special crates have a "Special crate drop in 10 hours" message, then you get a 5 and 3 hour warning and eventually one saying its dropped.

There is no green circle for special ones, so you can't find where they are until they have dropped.

 

Ive worked out a some good tricks to ensure you have a better chance of getting them, but ill let you work them out for yourself!

 

Ive not seen any other items unlocked from them apart from the T shirt
