I don't usually use tanks to kill other people and/or destroy their vehicles. I do that only if the lobby is filled with ludicrous idiots, kids, assholes, etc. etc. Meaning I never use a tank if no one spawn-kills me, destroys my vehicle or doesn't talk sh*t to anyone. Also, if I do spawn-kill someone, I stop doing so after some time because it's a bit unfair for that fool, regardless of whether he tried to kill me.

 

If someone else is using a tank and killing people, I do call mine too, so I can destroy his (or her) tank and then torment that person's game for trying to do so on others. If that fool is going for another tank, I try to steal it because I know most of the spawn points for tanks in LS.

 

tl;dr - I'm generally alright tank user.

There are a few things I think they should do with tanks, but meanwhile what you did with the car was really your own fault, sorry. If you take an uninsured car outside with more than 100k without checking the environment, you shouldn't be surprised if it gets destroyed since the Bad Sport nerf. Tanks also stick out like a sore thumb, with the slow moving blip and most of the time, helicopters following it.

 

If you wanted to give your friend the uninsured car, either go to an uninhabited part of the map ALWAYS checking if people go near, or go to an invite only. With that glitch with slot 1 uninsuring the car in that spot, if I want to insure it again I always check the map first to have 0% chance if it getting blown up, otherwise I don't even take it out.

 

About the tanks needing a change, I think they should make it bulletproof and car explosion proof (to make sure you can still run over cars, especially police cars), but have less health vs rockets and sticky bombs, 2 rockets and 4 stickies being enough to take it out. After that, the tank driver shouldn't be able to call one in for an in game day.

 

This way, tanks are more balanced vs players on foot, you'll be able to take one out laying a trap with sticky bombs. The tank will still be very effective during missions and tank battles will be more fun as you really have to be careful.

 

Oh, I also think people should get Bad Sport warnings for killing people that are in passive mode (and also on foot).

Yeah, sometimes even heading out to Blaine County or even Paleto Bay doesn't even cut it. Chaos going on in the city as par the course last night, so I drive out to Sandy Shore to do my character's hair. No one around, but by the time I had settled on my new hair do, there were two guys waiting outside the barber shop to kill me.

 

^ I tried to mod a car for a random level 4 guy before the purge. We left CR and spawned near the prison, no one around. By the time I stole a good car from the lot and we drove to Sandy Shores LSC 2 fully loaded froggers came in from the city. Both emptied the passengers and both pilots flew off to pick up tanks. Long story short, no car for the guy lots of jet death for the tankers.

OP, take plenty of stupid risks, its a just a game and it's no fun feeling all safe and cozy with no one to threaten you(still pissed I don't get mauled by a cougar while AFK in the wild). Oh, and in the future just go to Beekers Garage, slightly inconvenient but not as much as losing $100k.

It's heatting up now, today I was on a server with this guy who had a carbine rifle that shot RPG rounds. And then started talking about how he's so cool he has a Jailbroken PS3.I saw him destroy a tank in almost 2 seconds. Then I thought, R* should implement a system that if you get killed, say 10 times by a tank, they get a gun which shoots RPG rounds at the same rate of fire as a carbine rifle, that can only destroy tanks and disappears after that tank is destroyed.

 

And also make Tanks pay for the damage they cause too. Including cop and NPC insurance and Hospital bills

Stepping into freemode is practically inviting someone to come kill you, tank or no tank, and people complain when they do? Why do people expect co-existance when most sessions are filled with raging psychopaths who want to see all other white dots on the radar dead?

 

Freemode is exactly that... a free mode. You could snipe the tank, you could find a way to use the crap-tastic passive mode to your advantage, you could change sessions, you could realize that a private session to mod cars for friends is probably the best idea if you don't want some random serial killer murdering you, or, you could just... put another game in.

For sure, i usually go there to play around in Sandy Shores with the fighter jet or pimp a car up and carry it back with the heli - some things are more enjoyable when you're alone, other times you want company because a lobby with 2 people or 16 people is sometimes enjoyable in itself when everyone is just chilling.

 

When you want peace and quiet but the tanks start ruining that tranquility, it's time to gtfo.

If you are customizing for a friend, your best bet is to go to a LSC far away from the action.

 

I recommend the furthest one to either the south or the east in the city, or any of the customs shops in Sandy Shores or further north

I'll be honest, used to be when people said the tank had to be removed from the game, I called them stupid... but now I see that I was 100% wrong. My buddy, new to the game, wanted to car to race me with... sooo, I went ahead and found him a Sabre at his choice, spent about 160k doing said Sabre up. With that done, I went to my buddy, handed him the car, said to put a tracker and insurance on it but by the time I had finished with that sentence... boom. There goes $160,000 and the reason I sold one of my own cars, he then kept on spawn killing me with a tank until I ended up quitting. Before you say "Why didn't you go into passive mode?" well... simply put; you can still run people over and park on them until they die, which is what he did. I did all I could to avoid him, to take out the tank, and to just get out of there but no... this wouldn't be an asshole if he didn't have more than himself, so of course, here comes his buddy with yet another tank. They kept doing this, and later on after I quit I got a message from the guy saying he was sorry, he didn't know the car didn't have insurance, and added me. I thought "Oh cool, bit of an ass but at least has some morals." but nope... he joined my game, where I had done up yet another Sabre for my buddy, and did the exact same thing with an RPG as we drove to LSC. I started today with $504,000 left after Rockstar took aim at gifted money, and I'm now left with $82,000 as this has happened so, so much.

I'm not here to ask for sympathy, but something really has to be done... I dunno, anything, have the tank removed from the game, have a list of trusted hosts who'll start up fair, no bullsh*t invite only games. This game, to me, would be flawless if it had a better community... like, seriously. The gifting money? I didn't mind but some hated it, and who was it caused by? No, not Rockstar's "bad security", it was caused by some asshole who had nothing better to do than to show off he has cash, and thus, thrown it around like a f*cking moron. Because I don't believe they thought this through, you must admit that the price for a tank was the only reason nobody had one up until cash glitches were found.

I'm sorry but no, DM, LTS, Vehicle DMs, Custom DMs, Missions, these are made for killing, shooting, running over and shooting a rocket or two. Can you take your own personal ride and mod it during a DM? LTS? No, you cannot, hence free being the only way. Why should I just up and accept the fact that nine year old douches have taken over a gamemode and now use it to do something there was already a gamemode for? I shouldn't, and thus I'm not. I'd like to think anybody who believes I should just 'get over it', does need to rethink a lot, I'm not one to just let somebody else deal with the issues.

As a free mode I should have the choice to not be shot at and killed, but I don't get that do I? If I don't have the right to stay alive, why do they have the right to murder me? Most of these people are just a bunch of douches who need to do something, anything, to gain the attention of the lobby. I really do feel as if tanking is just a form of attention seeking, which makes me feel like they are all just very, very... pathetic.

As for what you suggested...

1. I dunno how to snipe a tank, why should I learn that just to stay alive? There's learning the basic rules of a game to be able to play, and going out of your way to learn an optional skill just so you can beat what SHOULD be an optional enemy, f*ck that.

2. Pass-mode has to be the most useless thing around these days, next.

3. Read my post and you'll learn that I did change games, thank you.

4. K, so I ditch the Sabre, change to solo/buddies, take ages finding the Sabre again (don't tell me they are popular, it took me a good while looking at the places on the wiki) and mod it... just to hand it over and go back to public? Why should I need to go through the effort of doing all this because some guy has to satisfy his ADHD or whatever bullsh*t he has wrong with him by blowing me up when I did nothing? I shouldn't.
