I don't like Piper, and there are characters/drama that I could do without. The episode without Piper was kinda BS, but it may have been an improvement. I watched the entirety of the first season with my ex-girlfriend, and I've been holding off watching the second season because it just makes me think about her, which saddens me. Kirsty Posted June 29, 2014 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Finished the last 2 eps of series tonight, it was great have an extra long finale. I just love all the main characters of this show and can't wait for next year already. Delighted for Rosa at the end, got all goose bumpy when Morello got out the van for her. Really satisfying that it was her that mowed that bitch Vee down and assumingly doesn't have to die in prison. It's already clear that it's not going to go smoothly with Caputo in charge even though he just wants to do good lol, guy just can't catch a break. I'm glad it tied up some of the relationships like the girls making up and loved the scheming between the silent woman and Mendoza. Thank god they didn't kill Red off, she's my favourite for top dog. I think it's strange how Pennsatucky had quite a personality change, I expected her to be as brutal as she was last year but they've really toned her down it seems and with the new teeth she's gone all soft, she's still likeable but I hope she has more prominence next season It really is the little details in character development and connections to their pre-prison lives that make you really feel for them and get to know them. Interested in where it's going to go next season, obviously it's already confirmed Alex is returning as a regular so that's something for Piper, but honestly I think it could carry on just as well without the two of them most of the time. I expected there to be a lot more shankings than there was and hardly no violence whatsoever. This is a prison not Golden Girls. I watch a lot of prison documentaries so the comparison is glaring. OINTB is mild hot sauce.Example: When that screwdriver went missing I was sure they were gonna have someone get shanked with it but it was just used as a dildo. Also Piper should've used it on Pensatucky instead of her fists or maybe that would be too much of a leap for her character. However I just started Season 2 last night and it definitely has a different feel to it. I'm wondering if they've brought on board new producers/directors or something because the first Ep had the near quality of Breaking Bad. So far I like the opener and I hope it stays this way. The Piper/Larry arc would have been so much better if: When she first tries to get in touch with him he just ignores her, Maybe the furlough stuff still happens and maybe he still gets together with Penny(?) but everything that happens without Piper there is off-screen. Personally I would've had it that Larry just got involved with someone else who wasn't Piper's best friend because the both scenes with both Piper and the husband were cringeworthy and not in the "it's a car crash I can't look away from" way but in a "wow they really thought this would work well on the show?" way. The Larry stuff has got a lot of negative attention, and I think it's telling of how the show's improved in the second season actually. The scope has opened up from being simply a fish-out-of-water story to being about a whole bunch of people in an interesting situation. Most of the positive feedback comes from how the cast has expanded, and seeing Larry out in the world doing his own thing just saps time away from all that and reminds us that, originally, this was all about one person/couple. This is also why I'm not as happy as everyone else about the confirmation that Laura Prepon is returning as a main cast member in S3. The show's growing in a way where it's more that Piper is involved in things rather than her being the sole focus. Retreading the Alex stuff just seems like it'll hold that growth back. krashr Posted July 18, 2014 Share Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) i am now up to date season 2 spoilers- okay so i may have been tainted by another favourite show (involving thrones), but after the season 1 finale i was under the impression that piper finally cracked and smashed that religious meth head's face totally in, to the point of no return, which made me happy.. cut to season 2 and this is not the case.. but i got over it and was happy to see where they might take things.. the introduction of the v character was good and i enjoyed the red/v backstory and rivalry, but again, i thought it was over for red when her face was slocked in, after she made the silly decision to make "peace".. i thought, tough but fair, she's a good character but it's her own fault and kudos to the writers for going there.. only to, again, see in the next episode that she survived. this makes me think v is still alive, even though i hope not.. must say, bit of a dumb move to go to all the trouble of attempting an escape and then stand on the side of the road as a clearly marked prison van comes.. i do hope the cancer lady gets to die on the run like she wants to.
