Cool Things You Didn't Know About GTA IV

Dropping a grenade during a high wanted level will result in unique lines from cops (e.g. "It's gonna blow! Move!", "Fire in the hole!", "She's gonna blow!").

Those are also played if you set their car ablaze. Gang members during Vigilante missions also tend to do so I think.

Algonquin (borough in GTA IV) is named after Algonquin Mountain from the Adirondacks in New York.

Interesting, but I'm sure it's also named after the Algonquin tribe.

Speaking of names, apparently a lot of Alderneys streets are named after cult leaders

From the wiki

Quote

Most streets in Alderney City are named after cult leaders, like Koresh Square (Koresh David Koresh), Hubbard Avenue (Lafayette Ron Hubbard), Mahesh Avenue (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi), Asahara Road (Shoko Asahara), Myung Street (Sun Myung Moon), and Applewhite Street (Marshall Applewhite)

I love all the street name themes! Ones I know are:

- The cult leader names around Alderney City

- Woodland animal names in Westdyke

- Rock/mineral names for the streets in Algonquin

- Current or former US state capital names for the avenues in Algonquin

- Breakdancing moves names for the streets in Bohan

- Prison names for the avenues in Bohan

- Wild west/cowboy names for the streets in Broker

- Native American tribe names for the avenues in Broker/Dukes

- Henry VIII's six wives' names in Meadow Hills (and weirdly one in Northwood)

- Some vegetable names around Rotterdam Hill

- Plays on words and double entendre names for odd little streets in Algonquin (eg "Wong Way" in Chinatown, dirty stuff like "Back Passage" and "The Brown Place" in Suffolk/Little Italy, and some fish wordplay eg "Cod Row", "Flatfish Place" dotted around)

I can't figure out what the links between the street names in the southern part of Alderney (anywhere below Alderney City) are, I'm sure there must be some, and there's a few more unaccounted for around the map that also probably have themes. I hope to figure them all out.

Oh also one time I was listening to random audio files from IV on youtube and Niko's taxi dialogue asking to go to different streets came on. And there was one with him asking for "I Did It My-Way". So I guess there was a plan for a street to be named that at one point. They should've kept it.

Okay... So, I was just doing No Love Lost for Faustin, and the dude on the bike crashed... he and his bike caught on fire... then his bike exploded, and he stood up. I thought I wouldn't be able to kill him, but he attacked me with his shotgun and I could just shoot him. Then... the mission passed.

Interesting, because I thought it's not possible to kill him before he reaches the destination.

It is. Even when you pack few clips of SMG into him, he will die during the chase.

No way? Crazy, I've never really tried. What's interesting, when he fell of the bike, it was really easy to kill him - he had no extra health, or whatever.

If you take a taxi to one of the gun shops, the shop door will be locked. Leaving the immediate area and returning will unlock it. I guess the guy running the place has a surveillance camera to watch the street.

Something I found is that if Niko runs up the steps to the pedestrian overpass near the pay and spray in North Algonquin, he will trip partway up the staircase. At least if you're going up the South set of stairs (to cross North).

Speaking of gun shops... when you park really close to the gun shop in Do You Have Protection? Dimitri will wait for you in a car - when you park closer to the street, he will follow you and wait by the door.

I noticed this as well, its little touches like these which makes you think R* targeted their most realistic creation with IV.

Yes, I was sure he would just get out of the car and wait by the door as always (because I always parked near the street), but no - he actually stayed in the car. That's just good.

By default Luis wears white, his friends wear blue and red, those are the colours of the Dominician flag, concidence or a little easter egg? Probably posted before but whatever.

Nice Finding. I always love hanging out with these two and listening to them talking about their background.

Something I didn't take too much notice of for a long time is that not all armed gang members react to gunshots immediately. They might just find it better to runaway with their lives and avoid trouble, but they're still not afraid of pulling their firearms out when you shoot at them.

Yeah, one dude has just pulled out his gun, did an animation of being scared, and run then away with a gun in his hand.

So how rare is this occurrence with NPC's who notice the character's appearance?

Every once in a while there's a few NPC's I noticed that pay attention to our characters looks. For example after bumping into a few people around LC (TLAD) I noticed unique NPC dialogue. This guy after pushing him said to Johnny,

"Ooooh a scary biker!?" almost like taunting him. Then a random woman much later "I don't have a thing for thugs..okay?".  After a long while of trying, the last NPC's which was a high class guy in a tie and suit told Johnny "Do you guys even paaay taxes???" Lmaoo.

Didn't have much luck with Luis and NPC's expect after a homeless said "oohh big muscles!" wut? after all the females I had tried with Luis, lmao..The dialogue obviously was for Luis's muscular appearance. Seems like these may be hidden NPC dialogue. Anyone else ever get these or at least tried? Tried triggering more after but again had little luck expect getting into fights with gangs after countless of times pushing them which then lead up to shootouts lol. I think the LCPD also have unique dialogue when standing next to them depending which character you're playing. But I never payed much attention until recently. How the hell did R* ever manage to put this much detail into the damn game? And that post above Henrique, Luis and Armando representing the Dominican flag in clothes flew over our heads all these years...what a nice touch for details.

Also, I still can't over the fact after all this time Henrique's driving is horribly bugged during drug wars after stealing vehicles with product each time I look back at the camera I notice almost every damn time Henrique is flying in the air hitting buildings and poles while crushing poor pedestrians that are in the way. By the time we make it to the drop off location it's rare that Henrique's ride hasn't exploded by then, lmaoo. I just can't get over how ridiculous this looks being left breathless, F*ck me IV and it's stories are such special GTA's.

I've come across this too. I think they just added some extra NPC dialogue to TLAD and TBOGT that would relate specifically to Johnny or Luis, not based on them recognising the character but just based on which game you're playing. It might even be new NPCs? I feel like I've seen some new ones only in those games but not completely sure. There's some NPC comments that only fit for Niko as well, stuff about him being Slavic from Italian, Albanian and Russian mob guys (eg there's this one Italian guy who keeps calling him a "Polack" and saying they don't serve kielbasa here lol). I'm not certain whether they took it out (or maybe just took out the NPCs who say it) in TLAD/TBOGT or not but I think they might have because I've never heard those comments when playing them.

Looking back into the game's audio files, there're some extra lists of voice lines for a bunch of NPCs in TLAD and TBOGT, including the Caucasian drug dealers and prisoners in TLAD, as well as the vendors, an old seller and some tramps in TBOGT.

And yeah, there're some NPCs that're exclusive to TLAD, TBOGT, and some shared by both.
