Cool Things You Didn't Know About GTA IV

I only just discovered the other day that Johnny and Luis also have unique dialogue for the helitours (I only ever did them in the vanilla game). Such a niche little feature in Niko's story, I'm surprised they went to the effort to record all those just for the two DLCs, considering when getting into a cab Johnny and Luis never specific streets like Niko does.

Holy hell did I have a laugh at the way Johnny bags out the pilot 😂

I feel like the main purpose of those tours is just to try and get you to bail out and fall to your death midway through lol. The tedious tour guide and the protagonists' bored/sarcastic reactions to him, and knowing you'll get a nice satisfying fall....it's so tempting to press that button. I'm actually impressed that they allowed the option of doing that, I feel like that would usually be a thing where your only option was to stay for the whole tour or skip it.

I noticed with the streets thing Johnny does sometimes say the specific street but not always. Like he can say Plumbers Skyway and Vitullo Ave for example (just two that I've noticed), but other times he just says let's go or whatever. I think they probably just recorded him saying some of the streets but not all of them for whatever reason. I don't think Luis ever says them though.

Okay, so - what I say now could be a common knowledge for many, but I've just discovered that rocks can actually damage your car's windows.

I've always tried to do that, but nothing happened. It's kind of difficult to damage the windows, especially the front one - but if you do, you get an unique damage effect. The windows is broken as if it was shot, but there is no hole.

If you destroy a Securicar, it will drop a lot of money. I guess this was the model for the assaults to Securicars in free roam in GTA 5.

I've noticed this too. I imagined it was because Johnny only knew the names of some streets. But you'd think he would know them better than Niko, but whatever lol. Also Luis says the neighborhoods when he gets in a cab, not the street names. It's better than Johnny. It just annoys me when Johnny gets in a cab and just tells him to drive, and the cab driver knows exactly where to go. I just don't know why they couldn't at least have Johnny say the neighborhood names like Luis does, considering they had to record him saying them for when he makes a 911 call.

Could've just been some random time limitation they came up against I guess, and they ended up using lines meant for being said when asking the driver to hurry instead. Bit of a shame as I like hearing the exact street, but since Niko does say them all it doesn't bother me so much. It's genuinely so awesome that they recorded him asking for every single street name, I love the attention to detail.

Yep, although they randomly spawn in IV, it's a very great way to make money in the beginning. Just make sure you have grenades and Molotov Cocktails.

Oh, yeah! I remember how hyped I was when I found out about it. I used to spend much time looking for them during my very first playthrough, really nostalgic.

Or just keep crashing it into a wall. Bonus benefit is it won't attract police.

I think they have less money in the beginning though. I can't work out how it works but although later in the game they have like $10,000 they seem to only have about $1000 - $3000 earlier. Grenades are $1000 each (or $700 once you have Jacob's gun van) so it ends up not being that great especially as you'll get cops after you using weapons. Still cool to do though. If you're really cheap like me you can do the crashing method or if it's later use a car bomb from Packie which is free and doesn't get you wanted. The greatest is if you've already stolen one and then see another one and block it so you can blow them up together, two for the price of one.

^ You don't have to buy grenades BTW, there's pickups in the first islands.

I didn't know until today that Derrick and Francis actually have marked headstones at the cemeteries.

I never buy weapons. It feels more GTA-ish to explore the map and find the guns lying around imo :)

It feels easier to buy them though haha. Also in IV they tended to put them in quite awkward places. I think the underground gun shops and Jacob's discounted weapons in the car are pretty cool ways to buy them anyway so I don't mind. I do usually pick up armour instead of buying it though since there's quite of a lot of convenient pick up places.

For Derrick's take the right path into Steinway cemetery and he's just a short ways in looking over the water towards Bohan. For Francis, he's on the right side of Colony Island cemetery in the third or fourth row by a cross monument. The gravesites are empty until one of them dies. I just decided on a whim to walk around the cemetery after playing the Derrick version of Undertaker and found his.

Hmm that's a stretch I think. It's just part of a running joke of Niko's friends calling him to hang out when he's busy doing something heinous. Jacob also calls asking Niko if he wants to go out to eat while he's busy transporting dead bodies in his trunk, Brucie calls to invite Niko to a strip club when he's on his way to shoot one up, Roman calls asking to go for a drink when Niko's busy driving a truck rigged with explosives etc. The friend who's calling isn't suggested to be linked to what Niko is doing.

Yeah, I really noticed that this time around. It's a nice touch.

There are trailers for several main and supporting characters of main GTA IV, and not only for those of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony:

Passing the mission "The Master And The Molotov" leads to hostility from the security guards of Perestroika.

I read this in GTA Fandom recently and I just assumed that they were referring to being hassled by the Russians (just like any other gang that isn't friendly) inside the club after hanging around them for a while (which happens after Russian Revolution to be fair), but it's actually accurate.

I've just found out that when you switch your radiostation to Vladivostok FM while driving with Dimitri in "Do You Have Protection?" he will comment on it, like for example: "Hey, that's a song I know from the old country".

It's a bit more glitchy than playing at the cafe, there's always a good chance of balls ending up on the floor lol. Otherwise it works just the same though, you can bring friends and girlfriends.

Yeah. For some reason the balls feel lighter and the clash detection seems a bit more inconsistent than at the Homebrew cafe though, but it's still cool if you get tired of listening to all the Reggae and want to play in peace and quiet.
