I saw some Lost MC members riding around the clubhouse some time after the game was finished(so it was burnt at the time) when i delivered a bike for Angus.

I didn’t know some of em still may hang around that place

Yeah there's always Lost members hanging around in Acter, not just by the clubhouse but around that area in general. I guess although the clubhouse is gone a bunch of them still live around there. They'll say hello to Johnny, sometimes even by name. Also if you get in a fight they'll run over and help! And they won't fight you even if you attack them (like all friendly gangs).

Didn't see it mentioned using trash or garbage in the search but.....

Tuesdays & Fridays are trash days in Liberty City, and pick up is early morning. If you happen to see a trash truck moving down the streets with workers hanging off the back, check your phone. It will always be Tuesday or Friday, and between the hours of 12am-6am.

those lines must be for niko, since originally he was going to be the only protagonist for IV. a bit of an oversight from rockstar

I found a glitch on A Revenger's Tragedy:

After Niko climbed into Jacob's helicopter, I went to chase Dimitri, and he crashed on his own into a building and destroyed his helicopter. The mission soft-locked from there.

ROo8eN1.jpg

Altough the final fight and dialogues on the island are amazing, an ending where Niko shoots down Dimitri's helicopter and he crashes into Star Junction sounds amazing as well.

And judging by an old thread I found, I wasn't the first to find this. Most threads about glitches on this mission are on the 'Destroy your spacebar' part. I don't know what causes it, but it's probably FPS as well. It's not an issue for me since I planned on doing 100% on revenge anyways, and that's 99% of the mission done, so I'm happy with it.

I'd really prefer the game to end in a more humble way.

I know what you mean, because most of the game is more subtle that stunt jump into the helicopter, flying across the city with rockets coming at you and the crash landing is like whoa this is a bit over the top! Crazy really because in most other GTA games there's stuff like that in every other mission and the final missions are way more over the top than that, but because IV is much more grounded overall it stands out and is a bit jarring.

Still I do like the very end on Happiness Island when Roman/Jacob is like "we won" but for Niko it's a hollow victory. Then his brilliant line after the credits and finding him still just there alone on the island about to make his own way home and receive some depressing phone calls. Perfectly anti-climactic. What a contrast to for example the end of Vice City, Tommy victoriously walking out of his mansion with two limos waiting for him knowing he runs the town. Nothing like that for Niko.

My main criticism against GTA IV's ending is that Niko didn't get a final confrontation against Bulgarin, who not only wants him dead as much, if not more than Dimitri, he seems far more dangerous than him. Instead, his send-off happens in the span of 2 missions in TBoGT for a much smaller "betrail".

While Dimitri is a c*nt, in some ways he isn't that different from Niko, always working for the highest bidder and all. Case in point, when Niko is tasked to kill Ray Boccino. He worked with Ray for a while and in return, Ray did his best to help Niko to find is special someone, only to be killed later because another boss ordered Niko to do so. Meanwhile, Bulgarin is just mad, he's shown to be pretty wealthy and quite... insane.

There're similarities between Faustin Bratva's branch of the story and the Alderney chapter of The Lost MC in The Lost and Damned's story:

  • Both crime organizations have similar leadership styles when it comes to the leader and his right-hand man; Billy, like Mikhail, is a very reckless leader who acts before taking consequences in consideration due to drug addicting, and Johnny, like Dimitri, is the more reasonable and responsive out of the two.
  • Both crime organizations were in good terms with a more powerful faction that's of the same type for a while, only to be changed by their leader - Faustin starting a war with the Petrovic Bratva, and Grey breaking the truce with the Angels of Death MC (and ironically, these two rival gangs, while confirmed to be overall more powerful than their foes, don't seem to be as powerful specifically in Liberty City and Alderney, but most likely in other parts of the US, being unspecified for the Petrovics, and San Fierro for the Angels of Death).
  • Both crime organizations fell due to decisions taken by the more reasonable leaders of each faction, and not the reckless ones; Rascalov for selling Niko out to Bulgarin and continuously targeting him and Roman, and Klebitz for ripping Boccino off without a good plan (Billy and Brian had hands in destroying the Alderney chapter of The Lost as well, but it was still a thing until Ray and the diamonds got involved).

Just realised the mission name "Uncle Vlad" is a reference to the play "Uncle Vanya" by Anton Chekhov. This goes along with several other references to Russian literature in mission names:

Crime and Punishment = Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky

The Cousins Bellic = The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky
The Master and the Molotov = The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov (the author's first name is another nice tie-in to the mission)

As well as Ivan the (Not So) Terrible and Russian Revolution which reference Russian history. Pretty cool.

I also like to think that Bulgarin's surname is a refernece to Bulgakov. There's also Faustin's surname, which could have been inspired by Faust by J.W. Goethe which may not be Russian but was pretty influential during the Romantic period anyway.

Hmm, I thought it's a reference to how Americans called Stalin Uncle Stalin for propaganda reasons after World War II.

Possible, but the other literature references and the slight similarity of the names (both beginning with V) make me think Uncle Vanya is the inspiration. Could be both.

I changed the radio station to LRR while riding as a taxi passenger in TLAD. Johnny did the thing all the protagonists sometimes do which is to tell the taxi driver which station to change it to (slightly late because it's actually just after they've already changed it to the one you selected), but this time he said "Let's see what Iggy's playing". I thought that was pretty cool :D. A lot of the time the comments are something other than just the radio station name (eg "put on the Eastern European station" etc) but I've never heard them refer to the name of the real life celebrity DJ before. In fact it's the only time I'm aware of any of the characters in the game mentioning a real life celebrity's name (even though in this case he also exists in the GTA universe).

Happened to knock over a young female ped who commented something along the lines of "If I was in Nigeria my brothers would come after you". Another nationality that I hadn't come across in LC before (there's some other peds from West Africa eg the security guard but the specific country isn't confirmed). Love the diversity of the peds.

When I've been playing EFLC I have to start a new game in IV in order to load a save, and sometimes end up messing around at the start for a bit first. Niko has zero money at the start and I noticed that if you pull up to a toll booth not only does a message pop up telling you that you don't have enough money to pay the $5 toll (which I'd noticed before) but the cops in the booths actually have several different lines of dialogue to tell you if you can't pay you're not coming through. You get $25 from Roman at the end of that mission and you were never meant to go there first and you're not really expected to ever have under $5 in the game again, so this really is crazy attention to detail lol.

There's also the thing where if you take girlfriends/friends out without enough money the outing seems fine but at the end because you were a cheap date and didn't pay your way the girlfriends will be pissed off and the percentage will go down so much they dump you, and friend's percentage will go down instead of up. And if you don't have enough money for your taxi ride instead of just refusing to drive you the drivers will take you as far as your money allows and kick you out early, with special dialogue for that. And it'll let you get a lapdance but when it's finished if you spent more money than you have the bouncers will come after you. Again situations that would almost never naturally happen but they still included all that detail anyway.

As opposed to the majority of gang members in the game, Italian mobsters, Russian mobsters (only the mob faction, which doesn't include the more street level gangsters), Korean mobsters and high-ranking Triads don't buy drugs from drug dealers.

Ah yes, 2008 Liberty City, when mobsters had some principles.

I think they did have street level thugs since they waved their gun around when they heard gunshot nearby .
