Cool Things You Didn't Know About GTA IV

I was watching a TLAD playthrough and I never noticed that Niko appears in the intro. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention back then, but it came out of nowhere. Apparently it doesn't make much sense though because Niko shouldn't be at that part of the island yet. Personally doesn't bother me, but I know it probably would to some.

I loved it when I saw that! I don't care about the being on the island too early thing, it's too awesome how he's just another guy walking in the city. The intro already had me pumped and that was the icing on the cake. I like how you see Niko (in the bank scene and afterwards in traffic) and Johnny (just happens to be riding by) in the TBOGT intro too.

And how great are the TLAD end credits? You think it's just going to be the camera panning over different areas of the city like usual but then you spot Roman and Niko's place on fire and proceed to see not just city views but also events of IV and TLAD playing out as part of the views (including times when Niko was doing something and Johnny just happened to be near by, and a view of the museum with Niko, Johnny and Luis escaping from separate exits). Best end credits ever. They did something similar with the TBOGT end credits as well only they took it a step further and included scenes showing things that happened after the story (eg the homeless guy enjoying his money and Packie going to the airport). I just love the creative ways they linked the three games together.

Just found out you can turn up to the church in Mr and Mrs Bellic (Revenge version where you attend with Kate) wearing something other than a suit, and there's a cutscene where Roman's annoyed and tells you to go and change lol. Kate says she wants to get to know the groom and stays there while you go and put a suit on. If you were already not wearing a suit when you pick her up she comments on it too. Other times you have to wear a suit (Three Leaf Clover, McReary funeral, meeting Pegorino, job interview, the Deal version of the wedding) it just won't let you start the mission without one so never thought to try it before.

Hmm... another interesting thing - I was driving a Roman's Taxi, but it was missing a front door - thanks to that I observed that Niko actually presses a 'break' pedal when you break... (You must break hard, though)

it's spelled brake not break lol.

Today I just barely realized how drunk Niko can get depends on who he goes drinking with. If he's with a friend, he'll come out piss-drunk. With girlfriends, not so much.

Niko stays drunk for AGES with Packie lol. And you can't even shorten it by going for a meal to sober up since eating isn't an available activity for him. I know it lasts a much shorter amount of time with Brucie, not sure where the other friends fit in.

Also if you go drinking with Michelle/Karen she only pretends to drink and doesn't get drunk (Niko comments on this but dismisses it because he's drunk himself). And you don't get a wanted level for drunk driving with her. Hints about what we find out later of course.

WOW I just found out a cool alternative thing in A Revenger's Tragedy. When you leave the casino via the roof and it says chase Dimitri all I ever knew to do was go down the ladder and chase him round the side of the building to the boat. But instead of going down the ladder you can follow him across the roof, and there's a cutscene where he gets in the helicopter, Niko jumps and hangs on it but he kicks him and he falls in the sea near the boat instead. This might just be common knowledge? But very cool to me haha.

I didn't even know it was possible to go down the ladder and miss the cutscene as it is with Pegorino 😂.

Lol I think it's because I did the Pegorino version first so I just did the same thing with Dimitri. Never even noticed he went across the roof before, I thought he was just quick. When you go down the ladder with the Dimitri version there's not even enemies down there, that makes sense now.

Looking back at the game's files, I've just noticed that there's an FIB head texture that looks severely similar to that of Francis McReary, with nearly the same face, facial and haircut, albeit with minor differences.

EDIT:

Been using this for a long time ever since I first heard about it as a game feature back with the guides to find all my good tracks. All IV era games still have so many hidden gems inside it's soundtrack with the help of ZIT! Was so always helpful. Thanks a ton Lazlow :p

Don't know if I posted about the awesomeness of the icecream trucks before. Not only do they play multiple different jingles (including the GTA IV theme) but the jingles also play faster or slower depending on how fast or slow you're driving, and if you reverse they play backwards. Neat little details.

I just learned that if a cop busts a ped and the ped drops a gun, you can pick up the gun like an item and it'll be added to your weapon inventory with ammo! I just picked up a Pistol that was dropped by a Russian gangster and it has full ammo!!

You can roleplay as a person who gathers evidence on the crime scene in Grand Theft Auto IV? Nice.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was mentioned before, but either way, something I've noticed a few months ago:

Starting from five wanted stars, not only Police Mavericks get replaced with Annihilators, but also cops, as well as NOOSE and FIB agents, perform drive-by shots from their vehicles rather than start shooting only when they're on foot.

Many people wouldn't have noticed it too early, because at that point they'll most likely be hiding in interiors or the subway, that's if they actually survived.

I knew how if you're on foot and you trip a ped that a cop's chasing the cop sometimes thanks you for it. Found out you can also do this is in a car. Was driving around, saw a cop chasing a ped along the pavement and carefully pulled the car in front of the ped so they ran into it (didn't run it into them as that would count as running them over and give me a wanted level) and the cop thanked me and I went on my way.

Also never knew before that if you trip the cop so the ped can get away the ped can thank you!

IIRC in The Ballad of Gay Tony, they start drive-by-shooting you at 4 stars, while in the main game and TLaD, they'd do that at 5. Never really understood why, but that makes this fact a bit weird (and slightly racist).

I heard that at 5 stars there's also snipers on roofs shooting at you. I can never spot them while I'm dealing with all the heat/when there's so many different buildings to look for them on but I was up on the roof of the Triangle Building with 5 or 6 stars inexplicably getting shot recently (had shot down the helicopters and was totally out of range of the street) and it seemed like sniper bullets (individual shots that did a lot of damage) so I believe it.

For all those reasons, GTA IV is easily the most diverse when it comes to difficulties regarding wanted levels. Although, roadside spike strips would've been a decent addition.

The army was scrapped, but it doesn't really matter in my opinion. It felt more believable as well.

Those cool FIB guys coming straight from the office wearing suits as they shoot machine guns at you make up for no army for me. In V I get sick to death of just endless NOOSE guys. I like how even just regular cops are diverse too, different races, different sizes (fat cops are the best), different personalities, lots of clothing variations (different shirts, some with jackets on and some without, some with hats and some without, special overcoats and hat covers when it's raining, whole different outfit for the Alderney ones).

Speaking of wanted levels (definitely a glitch at times) but regarding the NOOSE they sometimes spawn infinitely from the NOOSE Enforcer. It’s like clowns coming out of a clown car one after another. It’s pretty funny actually.

The LCPD won't dispatch a police helicopter after you if there's a storm with lightning.

After like 11 years of the game's release, I've just found out about the Meadows Park gas station being actually active.

I haven't paid much attention to gas stations before to be honest, so the rest might be active as well, or at least some of them.

Yeah, they are all active. Sometimes there can be a lot of vehicles waiting in line. Nice.
