Cool Things You Didn't Know About GTA IV

Algonquin Assassin

I just discovered this today, I don't know if it has been posted already... if you give money to hobos and you get in a fight, they will help you instantly against your target, but they're not good fighters. :lol:

Cool detail nonetheless, I'm amazed that we can keep finding things.

I tested what lol232 said and it works :). I never knew that.

At least with Roman, if you dont have money to invite him to eat, you can go to the restaurant and eat food anyway, so i believe Roman invite you to eat then. Thats a very good new, because fatty Roman eats a lot lol.

Sometimes pedestrians can catch a taxi in certain places (I know so far only two places in front of Niko's apartment in Middle Park East and not far from Split Sides).

Don't know if this happens on all cars but if you damage it enough, it will backfire brown smoke like the beater cars.

Here's a tip if you want extra cash from assassinations....

During "Industrial Action" at the oil refinery if you go up to the highest cat walk there's a black duffel bag and if you walk over it you can get $10,000 as well as the cash you get from The Fixer from completing the job

I know money's fairly well useless, but just a tip for those that maybe need a bit extra for whatever reason.

I'll check that out :D

Additionally, the peds appearing in that mission can be members of the Skinheads, a Dominican street gang, or Darren Covey's gang. Pretty cool how R* used them only for a few missions.

If you wanna ride with Terry, Clay and Jim in a car, all you have to do is park the car like 100 mts away from their position, get to them by taking the Lycan that is spawned nearby. Then when they salute you, get off the bike, and get to the car by walking, they will follow you on foot too and if you are far enough from their bikes, they will get in the car with you (I only tried this during hang outs).

Also if you want to hang out with Clay only (it works post-story only), all you have to do is call Clay to hang out, then right after johnny hangs up the phone, call Terry for the gun van, and then you can buy weapons from him or directly meet Clay, he will be alone, either if you bought weapons from Terry or not.

The same can be done for hanging out with Terry; call him to hang out and then Clay for bikes instead. It doesnt work in TBoGT though.

Also, you can climb up to Johnny's third floor:

2j72uf.jpg

1) Huh, the more you know.

2) You can't climb up there naturally, but you sure can "launch" yourself by shooting the propane tank there when at the stop of the delapidated stairs.

You CAN climb up there naturally. Takes a few tries though.

Niko mentions a brother in some friendship activities, and that he is dead. Additionaly Roman points out that Niko is "his one and only cousin, except for the other ones". This might mean Niko had more siblings, or at least he had more aunts/uncles.

For some reason jacking a passenger in a cab won't get you a wanted level, even if you are in front of the cops.

There's a Binco advertisement. Binco was removed before the final retail version of the game, although the advertisement remains.

pic1_zps96575602.png

In one of the only rooms in the hospital, where Jon's missions are, there's 66 plug sockets (outlets) (in total);

Great catch

The Auto Eroticar shop in Alderney has major differences between the GTA 4 version and the GTA EFLC version:

pic12_zps71c39496.png

The GTA 4 version.

pic1_zpse3c03c18.png

The EFLC (TBoGT) version.

Differences:

There's added detail to the desk (phone, paper tray)

Plant(s)

The Kakagawa Power Ultra 3000 Pro printer in the background.

The printer's LCD screen also displays this:

pic2_zps07ba1a19.png

'Unleash Ninja Curu'

The Forklift in GTA4/EFLC has a lot of brutal signs on it, as such;

pic4_zpsc628d87d.png

pic5_zpsc9edbf76.png

They're implying you WILL DIE if you even attempt to use the lift for lifting people.

The Maverick displays text on the door on the passenger side, which reads "THIS HELICOPTER WILL CRASH. BUT WE REALLY DON'T CARE IF IT DOES. REFER TO THE FLIGHT MANUAL FOR HELP"

pic3_zps6c080e35.png

There's much more detail in EFLC compared to GTA 4, detail which the story mode never needed. Such as:

pic6_zps1e84ff93.png

The roofs of those buildings can be accessed from the ground using the fire escape. These fire escapes were there on GTA 4, but in EFLC, there's also a ladder at the top of the fire escape, meaning you can access the roof with ease.

In Algonquin, there's a patch of Blue Hell, which looks like it's been covered up with a mattress and a piece of cardboard, along with a couple of bin bags:

pic7_zps1060951f.png

At the same location, there's also a bin bag located on top of the 'shelter' roof-type object:

pic8_zpscab34c4b.png

In TLAD, there's a rundown old building which I don't think is used in any missions in either one of the 3 games. This interior can be accessed in either TBoGT or TLAD. In TLAD, there's a boombox/radio that blasts Radio Broker. It is unusually loud, and only music plays on TLAD:

pic10_zpsa89a20ec.png

In the Sprunk Factory, there's a window frame which misses a window. You can see outside from this window. It is a solid window, meaning you can't shoot out of it, or jump out of it. From the exterior point of view, the window is textured, but from the interior point of view, the window is missing.

pic11_zpsb364d40d.png

This has probably been noticed by a lot of GTA 4 players, but I thought it was quite cool, but pointless. Many sports cars (like the Banshee, Coquette etc.), display the name of the vehicle underneath the door. Like so;

pic9_zps22bf641b.png

Finally, the Sultan's exhaust pipe is sorta rainbow coloured;

pic13_zpsda0d8e96.png

Apologies for all the pictures. Hope you enjoyed this pointless but interesting detail Rockstar kindly added.

@Alex: Great findings. Great job mate!

EDIT: About the ladder details part. Do IV+EFLC (Complete Edition) use the same map file? Like, sharing map resources?

GTA IV will use just the files from the "pc" folder but TLAD and TBOGT will load custom files from their own folders.

@Alex.

Can you say where that unused interior of TLAD is located?

Untitled_zpsd324bae2.png

Go inside this building, the main building interior is similar to Dwayne's. The entrance to that interior is on the first floor (above the ground floor).

The Dinghy has two variants, one with a single motor and another with two motors.

When going into the prison a siren will ring in TLAD and TBOGT. It doesn't in IV because Niko was never in that prison. Johnny and Luis were.

That's the building where you rescue Ashley from. Which also explains the music only playing in TLaD.

When playing TLAD and if you provoke a AoD civilian to fight you, let them hit you and if nearby Lost MC members see it they will help you.

This works on all peds that attack you. In GTA4 the Irish Mobsters and Jamaicans help you too. Oh and Russians, before Dmitrij's betrayal.

The windows at burger shot by Luis's house can be shot out with the explosive shotgun. It works at other restaurant locations as well. I tried using normal rounds but failed. It doesn't work on clucking bell only burger shot.

Shooting a rocket to an helicopter's rear rotor will make the tail fall.

Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder...

After killing Tom Goldberg, you can bust out the window and jump out and run to safety. From the inside of the building, the window will appear as a breakable, see-through pane. From the outside, the window renders as a static window texture.

It's possible. And it's a very easy getaway too. Combined with the knife it makes the mission very easy.

I've done it before, but only once. I usually just kill him with the knife and walk out the front door.
