This is interesting. It is all a matter of skill, but not in the way I think you mean. See in that scenario, the player that saved for the rifle had betters skills: Better money management skills, better ammo and life conservation skills to minimize mission expenses, possibly better driving/shooting skills to earn more bounties and so on. That player should be rewarded accordingly for his/her skills. When those rewards are earned by the skilled and unskilled alike the reward is meaningless.

 

I also find the stance that modded money is ok, that everyone having money they didn't earn doesn't affect me, interesting among gamers. Most of the people I come across online lean more conservative. I'm betting that if polled this thread on the stance towards socialism, I would see the majority against. Looks like you're all for sharing the wealth as long as it benefits you.

 

 

It's amusing you try to deduce my stance on anything based on one sentence I wrote.

 

My personal belief is all the extra money floating around the game only brought in more players and made game play more fun for a large swathe of the community., especially for those with limited time to play. It also made the game more like single player which is what everyone grew up with and enjoyed. The hacking, god mode, flying tanks, tanks under 70 made things worse.

On topic, i really do not care about getting my money wiped. I'm level 105 or something and i have all the stuff that i need... Next thing i will be doing is making little money for ammo, armor and for some Merryweather stuff and help my friends rank up and get money

It's gonna be so funny reading posts from all the billionaires complaining how they lost everything when they called us legit players "peasants" and will soon be much poorer than me. any car purchased after 1.07 (or was it 1.08) can be sold, anything before that, can not.

Even if it is true more players game into GTA:O because of modded money, it will have the opposite effect for any future players if it doesn't get eliminated correctly. If everyone in the game gets to keep their $1billion, that would be quite a large barrier to entry for new players starting with nothing.

 

I guess it's great that the modded money made the game more fun for some people, but it has made it less fun for probably just as many people. This isn't single player and it wasn't set up to be played this way. I really hope those rumors about sandbox mode come true and those who want to cause crazy, unregulated mayhem can do so separately from those who want to play GTAO the way it was meant to be played. Then everyone could have the kind of fun they are looking for.

 

I apologize if I sound like some kind of elitist dick, but I really like GTAO and I guess I get kind of passionate on how I feel it should be played.

Maybe I missed some one else posting this but has anyone considered the routine maintenance might just be stuff that won't affect anybody?

 

I am veering towards this conclusion as well. The past couple days I've been experiencing a lot of lag, especially with textures not filling in or briefly disappearing. Rejoining from missions has become very slow compared to what it used to be, taking out the in game phone and entering the pause menu/map takes at least 5 seconds (a long time if there are spawn killing lowlifes around and I want to bank job money/change lobbies), momentary game freezes etc etc. My internet connection is pretty good and I've only recently started experiencing these issues on a regular basis. I'm wondering if this is a server move or upgrade or something like that.

 

If this was the mass purge we're all expecting wouldn't R* tell us exactly what was happening and when? After all they'd surely want us to keep on playing so doesn't it make sense that they give us the opportunity to do a bit of money laundering? A lot of people will give up if they have to start from zero again, which would also be another dent in the games already tarnished image. It would be a bit of a win for the so-called hackers who have been trying to break the game.

I hope it is the Moneypocalypse, but I really hope we finally get the sharks, casino, pink slips, etc. that was leaked in November. Maybe this even includes the mission creator and possibly heists...but all I really want is 10-car garages and houses/apartments in Blaine county.

If any of this was going to be released tomorrow/day after tomorrow, they would have been speaking about it. Loudly.

 

These are huge elements of gameplay that wouldn't just appear, they would be heavily hyped for at least two weeks before the release, complete with a R* event weekend following right after they were released.

Anyone can earn $10 million legit after putting some time in, and you really don't need more than $10 million to buy and upgrade the best guns, a garage, a tank, buzzard, and a good Super, Sports, Off Road, Muscle, and motorcycle.

 

From a PvP perspective, having $10 billion really isn't a big advantage from having $10 million. So I don't see why modded money should really bother others or affect them in any way.

 

God-mode is another story though.

From what I understand from a buddy of mine, if you have WD's My Cloud system, you can proxy through it to xbox live's cloud and use it to restore a previous cloud save. Maybe there's a possibility to revert your stuff back should it be wiped

You're absolutely right. There would be plenty of instances where a player getting to keep the money wouldn't matter one way or the other, players having $10billion when they would only have $10million legit is a perfect example of that. The problem is the players who would have $10billion when they would only have $10k. Maybe they like to immediately spend every dime at LSC beefing up their car after they earn money or they really really like strippers, there's nothing wrong with spending your time and money in Los Santos doing either of those things. When it comes time to fight/race the impulsive spender/stripper enthusiast with my expensive gun/car/helicopter/machete launcher that I saved up for, and they wouldn't normally be able to afford one, they shouldn't have one. That's the problem.

Strippers cost so little that they are negligible. As for upgrading your car, that's not a waste of money at all. You need to upgrade your car to have the best shot at winning races. That $10 million or so that you need goes towards things like upgrading the best car in each class.

 

 

You are correct that new players are initially be at a disadvantage. . . . initially. Once they grind up to a few million they can buy and upgrade a few important cars. At that point, skill becomes far more crucial than money.

I hope there is something good that comes out of this downtime. Not just all the modded money being removed (which the money wouldn't be modded if Shark Cards were half the price they are and it was a little easier to make money online). Hoping for some changes that will improve the experience such as heists, buying mansions, or animals.

 

I would be cool if the cheater lobby only applies when you cheated on that character, then that character is in the cheater pool. I just hope I will be able to mess around with my friends in private match rather than public.

I can't see it happening at all, and even if it does. There will be money glitches straight away and people will be billionaires once more, every update, fix, makes more glitches and cheats
