Tank hunting tips

I've been trawling forums ,youtube etc to find some best practice combat tips in order to best deal with tanks, but info is very patchy, so here's the place to share what we know, please only post reliable info .

To get the ball rolling anyone know the tank spawn locations and best buildings to snipe them from ?

Where should a sniper shot be aimed ?

How do you best attack a tank from the air ?

Do you have a link to a good tank combat post or video ?

How best to enlist randoms/friends to fight tanks ?

How many sticky's to blow a tank up ?

How many rpg's ?

How many grenades ?

Do muggers work on tanks ?

Do mercenary's work ?

Etc

I think we need to bring together best practice as tanks are so overpowered. So my intent here is not to pick on tank fans but to merely give you more in game fun and no I've not just been spawn killed by tanks. (but have been by other methods)

Thanks and please keep on the subject .

You've been trawling forums but clearly not using the search function.

Just trying to bring the info together :sigh:

I saw a mugger work for the first time last night… was flipping hilarious seeing the tank speed off at some ungodly tank speed while i tried to catch it and chuck stickies at it - ended up blowing myself up chucking a sticky at a low flyin helicopter who was also tryin to blow it up. luckily he had a bounty… so at least that paid for 1/3rd of my mors mutual cost (vacca)

Wrt the other player in a heli ...I think this shows another problem fighting tanks other players can get in the way ! just when your about to deliver the final blow a nearby player takes you out . Not proud of it but I've done it too question is do I shoot all near a tank or just go for the tank whatever hoping players nearby are only after the tank . Whats needed is is some kind of code of conduct when dealing with tanks who I'm I kidding this is GTA pity though !

To be fair he had a bounty on him… fair game, and as I said the tank had been robbed it was a mugger driving it, good luck catching one of them, they go so fast and being aggressive they won't stop for your vehicle, they'll plow through it. It was just a comical end to a tank battle.

But yes, as someone who regularly uses a buzzard to take down tanks with my bro as a co pilot I get fricking scared of all the players scurrying around below. All it takes is a few people to put their MGs or snipers to good use and we're gone (and we were trying to help).

Problem I run into is that someone will start sh*t then when they get killed too much they'll run and get a tank. The mentality of that is just mind boggling… YOU STARTED THIS, then when I showed you that YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE STARTED they get a tank! WTF?

By all means GTA mayhem is cool, if you wanna start random sh*t with me why not we can dance, but ffs i don't wanna dance with a tank… that just removes all element of fun and skill

*sigh* lot of moaning about GTA being GTA here… so yeah whatever lol

Get an akuma and follow or plan an attack on a tank so you are at least 100 metres away from a tank. Shooting them down the road or luring them down a long stretch road is good. Once in position, snipe them. Then steal their tank until they either, passive mode or leave. If they passive mode, take their tank to a cargo bob and drop it into the military base. Gf tank. Gf player.

Tanks can shoot while driver is in passive mode! You won't reach the tank with your cargobob as long as the driver sits in it;)

merryweather is useful to force the driver use its cannon ( as triggering cannon often gain a wanted level ) , plus interceptors able to pursuit the slow moving rhino but takes longer to destroy one ( combine mugger and mercenary could be useful , once the driver pulled out of hatch , merryweather will make short work the driver after being thrown out ) . miniguns still proves dangerous threat for tank as firing over 200 rounds on engine will catch fire . try not to ram your car / use sniper ( unless u aready mastered the sniper to control the movement easily ) as veteran tank user like me could prepare defensive position , the front is facing to side ( making the tank is nearly impossible for a car instantly explode by ramming the side armor ) / the front is facing to rear ( making it impossible for snipers to shot the driver ) . don't forget use lester's stealth radar + merryweather airstrike while the tank lay its guard down , these rockets could cause the tank smokes / catch fire instead . keep that in mind , online tank receives more strength than single player ( e.g can survive more explosion / RPG rockets / car blasts )

try not to ram your car / use sniper ( unless u aready mastered the sniper to control the movement easily ) as veteran tank user like me could prepare defensive position ,

It's funny--there actually is no defensive position in a tank against a sniper. You can shoot the driver out from every angle if the distance is great enough.

Yep, at a certain distance the tank is not solid anymore, although you can see the texture. So you can shoot the driver from any position, even from back and it will hit him. It is just about distance.

Another method i've used is getting my Bati, then putting 5 sticky bombs on it, call lester to get off the radar, drive to the tank and detonate the stickies in the back part of the tank (see the picture)

That is the weak point of the tank it will take like 4 stickies there to blow it up.

Also a jet is a good choice by using the machine guns, but you need to be a skilled pilot, i haven't managed to do this as i end up crashing :(

I received my first Lazer kill whilst in a tank last night. It was pretty epic, especially since there was a guy right next to me that had been trying to kill me for at least 1/2 an hour. Admittedly he then went on to hound me around the map for about an hour. He was pretty good so it was a real shame to see him act so badly. It was proper griefing, despite me simply killing him a few times when he came for me.

Some people just see red when they see someone in a tank.

But anyway, the Lazer's cannons are the most effective way I've seen to deal with a tank. He came in high so there was no way I was gonna shoot him first, and it took about 1/2 a second for him to completely destroy me.

SaturdayNight

Yo can you guys stop crying about the tank and have a glorious death?

Glorious death? Most tanks will spawn kill you so I think you mean Multiple annoying deaths.

Best solution is to stay away from them, if they do not shoot you do not follow them.

Think of GTA Online Freemode as a last of us kind of setting; everyone is a threat and you should proceed cautiously.

If you must if you see tank chances are he's coming for you so try to hide in alleys and back yards, go into passive mode if you're so inclined. And for the life of you don't fire any weapons at it, you will lose, and you will die alot.

Fair play, don't blame him. As soon as most people lose their tank the first thing they do is proceed to get another one… and also it's nice to show them what spawnkilling feels like, as without the tank most people aren't very good (hence why they use a tank, compensating much eh?)

No you misunderstand. I didn't grief him in the slightest. I killed him maybe 4 times when he came at me - I literally was minding my own business. As soon as my tank was destroyed I went to carry on playing normally and he started to hound me, relentlessly, to the point where I was passive and out of reach and he sat there in his own tank, shooting me over and over for about 10 minutes. I did want to see how long he'd continue before giving up, but I also wanted to actually play the game so I changed session in the end. Not everyone in a tank is looking to sh*t on people.

It's pretty basical you just need to run around it very close staying to it as it turns like MGS1 then wait until he frustrated and you win

Me and my crew argue about how to engage tanks.

I say "mind your business" they say "go get a tank". GTAO makes people paranoid. Some people dont like to bring their cars out because they feel someone will blew them up. Smh!

Ive cruised by many tanks, and even drove around with a random who had a tank. I've also been driving a tank when a guy started doing tricks on my tank with a bmx bike (really funny stuff)

Beyond all of that, what you will start seeing are tank regimes. My crew has a tank regime. Just last night a guy blew my phantom up with 11 of my crew members in the session. SMH! We had FIVE TANKS buzzard and a platoon on him, spawn killed him to his house, and kept sending him messages to just leave the session.

He came outside with a notice on-screen saying he joined our crew.

So our defense is numbers, and the house ALWAYS wins. How can you save yourself from 5 or more tanks. At some point you "need" a crew

i mean the defensive position is move the tank's front to the sides ( so the players ram me on side armor instead of the front or rear ) . but for sniper , i'll just drive with my tank's front facing behind with the cannon facing to rear ( also i can even cover my hatch with a cannon )
