The difficulty of hacking GTA online

Now I could never do it myself, and have never tried to learn such techniques in any game. But due to the frequency of it, I can't imagine it's to hard for a hacker to do so. But what I'm wandering is what makes games like GTA so easy to hack? From what I understand GTA IV's online portion had the same problem.

Where as there's other games such as World Of Warcraft that are pretty much hack free. I'm sure it happens, but it's not really a problem to the point where it ruins the game and people question if it can be fixed...

Given the nature of the question I realise it may not be something that you can explain properly with no hacking knowledge, I was just curious to see if I could get an answer

All they need is a hacked console.

They can hack all they want, they don't care if they get banned, they just make new account.

If its a console ban they get a new console id

In the case of WoW, most game code is located on the server. The game itself, that resides on your PC, is the client that lets you connect to and communicate with WoW servers, as well as most if not all graphical assets.

Most, if not all of GTA Online, is localised and thus much easier to 'hack' and do as you please.

Games like WoW run mostly server side, and most of what you download is actually just assets the game uses to run. Problem with GTAO is that there are too many things being handled client side, so hackers have more to work with here than they would do in WoW. Basically the hackers would have to inject something into the server, and that's easier to notice if that's all you really got to keep an eye out for.

Plus games like WoW also come with their own anti-cheats generally whereas I don't really know how well protected GTAO exactly is.

made as in created.

not perpetuated by.

man did not create the effects of an explosion..

he simply made the bomb and used it

anything made by man can be unmade by man

Does that include atomic explosions and genocide?

Well yeah.... But some things are harder to be unmade by man than others and this is a case of that. Do you have any explanation or did you just want to drop an inspirational quote and look cool?

Not hating by the way, so sorry if it came out as such

Well, obviously anything physical can just be launched into the Sun.

I just used WoW as an example because I played it for a few years, but if a method has been layed out that shows that it prevents cheating and hacking, I would assume that would be adopted as the norm?

Surprisingly the way you explained it actually made sense to me and I understood everything you said :p thanks for that

It just doesn't make sense to me that a game company can see another game company get something right and not adopt the same measures that they do... I figured there must be more to it than that, which I did not understand

Does that include atomic explosions and genocide? Those 2 are the unmaking of the things they effect tho.

Hacking GTA is not as easy as it appears. The problem is the ones that knew how to managed to host their own servers with the mods already applied so everyone can use it. Mistake here was rockstar allowed other connections.

I think it's mostly a budget thing.

MMOs are hugely expensive to produce as well to maintain, in the hundreds of millions overall for some titles. All of it is purely spent on the online aspect of the game (obvious since it's an online only game). Whereas I'm pretty sure most of GTAV's budget went into singleplayer and not multiplayer.

One is a dedicated online game focused on keeping the players playing for as long as possible with highly developed character customization and regular chunky content updates, and the other is some kind of glorified multiplayer with basic RPG features. Rockstar isn't going to pump no way near the same amount a company of money like Blizzard would in the online aspect of a game, simply because GTAO is just a side project and not the main body of the GTAV experience.

its easy if you get spoon feed by other people to get past the new patch for tunables would be mostly likely impossible unless you release a sql injection into all of rockstars sites people capable of doing that would not bother and as far a disc based content that very is to modify cause ps3 and xbox has outdated security

right, 'cuz you know

you constantly hear about a mass of hackers in online games like Uncharted, Battlefield(console versions of course), Need for Speed, Mortal Kombat, i could make a whole list. even CoD's most common problem is boosters and lag switchers.

so again what's R*'s excuse

I love it when teenagers talk about hacking.

let me tell you something yall, hacking isn't done in green text terminals and hacking isn't what those kids do to their consoles and gta online. That's just called exploiting or skiding (script kiddies)

It's too bad that Rockstar did not dedicate more of that $150M they wasted on marketing, to the hiring of veteran online game developers. :/

Most games have hacks. The reason why This seems to have more is because Rockstar isn't used to making online. And they resorted to making most of their client side rather then server side to cut cost, Thus making it easier to mod and exploit.

I never knew this is how it worked (I'm not a software developer), but that's ridiculous how the content is client side rather than kept on a server, away from the hackers.

I'd never advocate hacking or slogging. This isn't a T20 match we are talking about here, lads. Patience, focus, and concentration will pay off more than any perceived easy path to victory.

99% of the gta "hackers" are just following instructions by other people. There "hacking" is as hard as typing a paper that someone else wrote. And most games do get hacked. The problem R* has made is not dealing with them well.
