DeafMetal Posted January 12, 2014 Share Posted January 12, 2014 90% of games journalists these days seem to be pretentious pseudo-intellectual asshats, so if there's a game or games out there that gets a reputation for its story, as well-deserved (TLoU, BI) or complete cliched sh*t (Gone Home) as it is, they'll most likely get the vote because, well, they're pretentious assholes. Not digging on TLoU or BI, but I think they get away with too much based on their narrative. For example, TLoU has gotten some "Best Action Game" awards and Bioshock Infinite has garnered some "Best Shooter" -- again, while damn good games, does anyone seriously consider TLoU an action game or think BI had better shooting gameplay than other shooters this year? Either way, don't feel too bad about it, they're just games, though I think it's good to spark conversations about this. As for me: Some people say they've had enough of blasting shotguns. But I look around me and I see it isn't so. Some people wanna cap some pixel fools with flaming buck shots. And what's wrong with that? I don't want to get into the whole CoD-hate thing, but one of the differences between the two franchise's in regards to success, is GTA not only achieves record sales, but also critical acclaim too. In my honest opinion, GTA V can be anything but its for sure not the game of the year, lol. GTA V doesnt feel like a GTA.. SP is boring after you finished the flat short storyline (~69 missions split across 3 characters?) MP aka GTA Online had potential to be very good but nope, at like Rank 15-20 you've understood how boring and repetitive it is. Its not even fun, you cant create your own lobbys and everyone just kills everyone on sight for the simple reason "cause its GTA". - the story maybe short from other GTA's but it wasn't flat. It had variety and so much dialogue depending on who you start the mission with. In fact, this is the only AAA title that has come out over the last few years that has had atleast 20-25 hrs of campaign as opposed to the others which mostly have 10 <. There's tons of stuff to do once you beat the campaign like side missions, random events, races, property management etc... - I agree with the GTA O can sometimes be repetitive especially the missions which is mostly point A to point B but there's several structured and unstructured activities you can do with friends which makes it still enjoyable. Maybe you just play solo that's why it's boring to you. Regarding the players, there's lots of assholes out there but this won't be much of a problem when you go to invite only sessions. And now that they know this, the games get worse for us and awesome for the kids. Just look at Saints Row... the first two games were awesome, and then the third game came.. it was okay-ish but saints row 4 is just over the top it could be a kindergarten game by now. Same goes to call of duty, look at Black Ops 2s Maps for example... Its sad to see the last decent game developer, rockstar, dropping into that league too.. You just need to give GTA O more time to get to it's full potential as it's on a bit of a mess ATM. GTA V is a great game but it does not feel as solid as GTA games have done in the past. The story wasn't very deep: it was predictable, and the serious tone from GTA IV (which I liked) was removed, but fortunately, the missions in GTA V was much better than in GTA IV. But unfortunately the missions were to much on rails. To scripted. Not enough freedom of choice. The music was good but far from as good as it could be. There was many radio stations but not that many tracks.The great melee combat from GTA IV was removed and replaced with 'punch to win' which made it possible to kill someone with a single punch. There was not only few missions but the missions barely offered any challenge at all. Very easy missions. Then there is other stupid features. If you stand about 5 meters from someone and punch them, you teleport to the person and take them out with one punch. If you flip a car on its roof you can turn it around by pressing right or left. The AI is not solid. AI units call the cops for nothing. There is no rivalry among gangs. There is no nightclubs, no safehouses. Clothing for each character is very limited. Not the same case for online though. GTA V is exactly like GTA IV - It adds a lot of good stuff, some bad stuff, and remove stuff that people liked in previous games. In the PS2 era it felt completely the opposite: each game felt it refined the mechanics and added new content without removing. And it doesn't need to be the best series, you literally said 'one of the best' and then adding your fanboyism for GTA it's GOTY. Over the better series, which you said exist. Guess what, a lot of people think GTA V is not a good game. No, they're not wrong. Opinions, how hard can they be? No. When a GTA game is released, that year it should win all GOTY awards because GTA are the best games. It's not just an opinion, it's a fact that GTA is one of the best series based on the sales and review scores it gets. The problem is that Rockstar have decided that each character only car wear clothes that ''fits their style''. The same goes with hairstyles. For example: unless you make Trevor bald you'll only be able to get him outright disgusting haircuts that looks like rubbish. It's the same thing with clothes. For all characters.But not only that: the clothes that you do can buy can't be used however you want: if you dress the ''wrong'' way by for instance using the ''wrong'' pants for your shirt, the game automatically corrects it. In my opinion all characters should be able to wear all clothes including those found online. I don't give a crap about how Rockstar want these characters to look like. I want freedom. My point being its all relative. Just because a game doesn't win a GotY award, if you enjoy the game, so be it! It matters not one iota if it wins any awards or not. Dead Island has a GOTY Edition, but only because some unknown magazine awarded the game their GOTY award. What you need to do is find a website like IGN, GiantBomb, GameInformer - whatever, and read their reviews for games you know of and see which site you agree with the most. Then just acknowledge what game they gave GOTY to. But in reality, it means sh*t. There's no general consensus. Just pick the games from 2013 you played and decide which one is your GOTY. Awards in gaming mean absolutely nothing since the journalism is scattered about. Unlike where movies have the Emmys and that's it. Game awards are journalism in general are an absolute mess. They obviously don't want the best game of the year to win the award, so they choose some other rubbish games. ign and gamespot are a set of nob heads all there good for is getting gameplay on new games but that's it there reviews are utter sh*te and this little show that fat slob Greg has got on ign is f*cking crap he's a c*nt and he tries to be funny when in actual fact he's not he doesn't realise people are laughing at him not with him. Yes I'm being harsh but Exactly.but what people dont get is GTA 5 won 3 world know awards and nominateed for many and also got 300 Perfect scores including IGN-orant. Let's not forget the $1 BILLION!
