I'm not one to usually follow celebrities, but I feel like saying something here. Many of us have heard of Miley Cyrus (if not, do a Google search). We know she started her journey to fame on the Disney show Hannah Montana, and we know that she's taken quite the turn since then. When I ask people about this girl, I tend to get the typical responses: "She's such a stupid, untalented slut," "What an embarrassing mess. She can't even sing," and "Bitch needs to die." Most people tend to think she's a completely clueless girl sucked in by the powers of Hollywood, but I'd like to argue differently. Miley knows what she's doing, and she's working the industry flawlessly. She's the ultimate troll. Here's why: 1. Her engagement to Liam Hemsworth. Those two broke up way before it was official somewhere during the summer/fall of 2013. She made the announcement that the engagement was off just as her new album was kicking off, an album packed full of emotion as we all know from the song "Wrecking Ball". If fans are following a breakup, they're sure as hell going to follow the girl's music, too. She knew it, and she knew exactly how to time it. 2. VMAs. Bitch wanted to get recognized, and she did it. She wanted to create something so out there that the world wouldn't forget about it, and she said so herself in some interviews. Get that initial shock factor and keep up the publicity going, and you'll get top media coverage for months to come. 3. Her racy videos. In "We Can't Stop", she advertised drugs and did some weird sh*t with teddy bears. In "Wrecking Ball", she got naked, swung around, and licked a sledgehammer. And in her latest addition, "Adore You", she basically produced a soft-core porno and masturbated under some bedsheets. What does this get her? Attention. She knows it. - - - Now, she knows how to work the industry and get the right attention, but I don't think this makes her a slut at all. I think she's talented and human, and I think we should give her a break. The weird clothing, twerking with midgets, and licking of inanimate objects? She's just being herself. She might be weird as f*ck, but she's having the time of her life while she's still young. Sure, the whole world is watching, but should that stop her? I've seen girls strip down naked and grind on guys at frats in college and lick balloon animals they found soaking in the inch of beer/liquor scum on the floor. Give this girl a break. She likes to get drunk, dance on stage, and sing. She was trapped in a miserable engagement, and it didn't end well. She's hurt, and she's doing what she can to deal with it. If she wants to reinvent herself, then let her do it. It's obviously working. We have the "Wrecking Ball" video, and frankly, I'm surprised that so many people think she's a slut for this. The girl cries on camera, gets naked (meant to be a metaphor to show how the breakup made her so vulnerable), and literally pours her heart out about this guy. It wasn't even raunchy. Yeah, I don't understand why she licked a sledgehammer, but otherwise? It was probably one of the classier music videos I've seen that features a naked woman. Her antics are damn entertaining to follow, too. I mean, if you think about it, didn't Britney and Christina Aguilera do the same type of sh*t when a lot of us were younger? Madonna? You can argue that this is different, but I really don't think it is. This is her break out moment, so kudos to her. Oh, and she can sing. Her vibrato needs work and she's a bit nasally and she needs a bit of work live, but she has some talent compared to a lot of the Disney-turned-singers out there. - - - tldr; I'm sure you all think I'm crazy for what I just said, but I like this girl, and I think she's got a decent set of brains. She knows what she's doing, and all the haters are only boosting her success. She's not a slut. She's a human, and she's having a hell of a lot of fun. Do you agree? Do you think she's just a troll, or do you think she's an emotional mess? Both? Do you think she's a slut without a clue? I'd like to hear about it. Sure they're all known for their controversies and they're all (or were) young beautiful pop stars who were "created" by Disney. But Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears actually went off the rails and completely f*cked their lives up and lost control and showed people their vaginas and sh*t. Whereas Miley actually seems in control of what she's doing and manages her image very well. It seems like it's all purposefully crafted and very deliberate. In private she's actually probably a lot more mundane and normal. Basically she's in control, and the other 2 lost control. I didn't really even pay attention to when e.g. Lindsay went all bonkers, but I guess when she was pretty young (20'sish?). What kind of "worries" (far less severe word required than 'worries'... maybe interests? Yeah, that is good) interests me is that if people need attention and/or publicity and get it with only things like that, I guess that in time, there'll only be slutty celebrities. For the most part I agree with Stu. Miley is at a critical stage in her career: she could behave politely but this would inevitably lead to her career fading away into insignificance like nearly every other child star. So why not just go all in? If your stunts turn into a disaster, at least you tried. This way people will either forget you once they get bored (which they would have done anyway), or you will strike just the right chord to bring you to the centre of all the attention giving you the perfect platform to sell lots of records. The amount of children whom will listen to her terrible music will grow up wearing whore-like clothes and their intelligence level will be low. I can't stand her. She says "I just want to sing about something which I have in common." - All of her songs are about relationships being ended yet she has probably been f*cked over five times and went out with stacks of guys. True. And then there are times where she seems more intelligent than I ever imagined, so it's really tough to tell. She's definitely not brilliant, but she's not braindead, either. And yeah, I was expecting the slut comments. As far as I know (and I really don't follow celebrities too much, guys, so don't judge me), she doesn't sleep around. She's developed an iconic style, which is that weird show-all-legs type of outfit deal, and she "twerks" sometimes and sticks her tongue out, but c'mon. She dressed up like a teddy bear, put her hair in ridiculous knobs, wore clown shoes and danced like an idiot. How is this slutty? She's just being a weirdo. Wrecking Ball was slightly more provocative, but not even. To me, it was more tasteful than most of what's out there, and she was singing about something extremely emotional. The nudity in that video clearly symbolized vulnerability. tubby: This is true, but why should she care? What celebrity wants to be stuck in that innocent, child-like image that Disney encases these stars in, anyway? She said it herself on SNL. Hannah Montana is dead. It's time to grow up. The show ended a good few years ago, right? Sure, she might have a few fans who are still children, but why would they be watching the VMAs and listening to her songs anyway? I guess they do play on the radio, but what kid is gonna know what molly is? To be honest, when I first heard her We Can't Stop song, I swore she was singing about dancing with Miley, not molly. Must be the accent. So I dunno.
