Vercetti42
I was skimming through another topic in Gen-Chat which was about whether the Earth's natural resources could be depleted. One of the members posted something which said 'Yes, we are part of the lucky generations' from which the idea for this thread came to my mind. So my question is do you feel lucky to be living in this generation? Or do you think you'd have liked to lived a little later or maybe earlier? Personally for me I feel that this is a good generation overall. The evolution of technology and such. Honestly I can't imagine living in a world where technology hasn't evolved yet nor in a world where technology has become well a lot more smart if that is the way of putting it. I always feel that the period which we live in now is the perfect period, where the Earth's natural sources (which could get depleted in the near future) are still intact to an extent. Thoughts? Frank Brown
Eh. Perfection doesn't exist. It's, apparently, the most peaceful era in human history, so I'm grateful for that. It's great compared to years past, sure, but it could always be better. Edited January 12, 2014 by Vlynor VIPΣR
Vercetti42
Yes it isn't perfect but what I meant was it's the closest we can get to perfect in my opinion.
Frank Brown
I don't think so. We can do a lot better. Cure cancer/AIDS/as many diseases as possible, find renewable energy sources that are able to provide for the needs of the planet, achieve international peace, make sure no one dies of starvation, etc. Secura and kk.
Vercetti42
Cancer/AIDS, International peace are much more improved than the past. Look at the Black Death epidemic or the number of wars fought. There are definite signs of improvement, but yes maybe calling it perfect is going too far. WinterEdit
In fact, I do. But I would also feel lucky to live in any other generation. Why? Because no matter whenever you lived (well let's limit it to Stone Age and forward), you'd still see development of culture, technology and such. If I lived in e.g. 1800's, I guess I would want to be sitting in my house and talking to other people. Now, in 2010's, you can... but there are still things that you possibly can't even imagine or things you wanted. If I lived in e.g. 2500's, I guess I'd imagine "Wow, now we have brain-to-computer virtual reality in our homes. ...I wonder what's it like in year 3000?". The point is that no matter whenever you lived, you'd still have something to be "disappointed" on, and wish you lived in that time, I guess. t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m
I'd say so. I'm sure the future generations will offer a lot more, but it could be worse. We have rapidly-growing technology, which for all we know, could allow us to live long enough to experience these future generations.
OysterBarron
I used to think that a lot when I was younger. Nowadays I'm more thankful for the place I was born and raised the uk. I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I got born into a tribe or places like Africa how my life would have been without a lot of the things we take for granted 3 regular meals a day warm bed and house tv etc. We are currently going through the longest ever period of peace and civilisation. Most others perished before now due to war and other factors. That is what I'm most thankful for. or1
Killerdude
I'd say so. Modern Medicine can cure most of what ails you. You can walk outside without worry your head will come off because you didn't shave your eyebrows in a proper fashion. Outside of Africa, Famine and Drought are nearly non-existent Wars and Conquest are behind us. SPACE!! So much more, This is an incredible era in Human History, and I am glad to be apart of it. Ladies & gentlemen, this is when typos can make a sentence mean so different things... apart = to be away or separate of something; "We were drifted apart." a part = to be... a part of something; "I was a part of this community." Not judging or anything, just saying. Edited January 12, 2014 by WinterEdit Killerdude

El Dildo
sometimes I really hate this generation (see; MTV). and sometimes I really love this generation (see; computers, vaccines, etc). often I think I would've been just fine if I were born in the 50's or 60's and grew up a hippie with muscle cars and rock n' roll blues music. but then I might have been drafted into the Viet Nam war. so who knows? no generation is perfect.... EphemeralStar
Yes, because if I was born say..50 years ago, I'd probably face a lot more racial discrimination then I do now. But regardless, I think I would have adapted in any generation, that's just how it works. But..I am glad to be living now though, despite all of the horrible things there are, there are still beautiful things!
GTA_stu
This could be one of the most awesome times to be alive in human history, we're pretty much in the Goldilocks zone right now. In the past you had sucky things like feudalism and guys with horns on their helmets killing you and defiling your wife. In the future there'll be morlocks and rising sea levels and whinging coast dwellers moaning about the rising sea levels. We have it pretty damn sweet right now. It's a great time to be alive! Well if you're living in a rich country it is anyways. Obviously if you live in a mud hut and have to worry about your limbs becoming victim to a machete then the best is still to come. P.S. I know the Vikings didn't actually have f*cking horns on their helmets. So don't even go there girlfriend.
trip
I'm one of the lucky ones that got to experience the explosion of technology first hand. It all still amazes me...even just sending a document via my wireless network to my printer still seems like magic. There is no denying how cool the internet is and how neat it is for computers to have come as far as they did(so quickly). So, yes, I do feel lucky to be alive and experiencing most of what is offered these days. I do have some reservations though. As much of a fan of science that I am, I'm not happy to see how the pharmaceutical industry matured away from its original concept of creating medicine for the greater good to becoming a big business the essentially sells illnesses to the gullible public. I'm nearly convinced the world will never see another true genius or artist, because we now like to medicate anyone who is 'different'...and we like to label them as 'different' and start medicating them earlier and earlier. I could go on and on and on...but I'll spare ya'll There are pros and cons to living in any time in history I suppose. DeafMetal
It's about as good as it's ever been for humanity. There's more countries that can support their population to a higher standard, we can travel from one spot of the earth to the other in a matter of hours, we have the most advanced communication technology ever conceived in our fingertips, nuclear threat is pretty nil with all the treaties and established arms these days, medical science (and technology in general) is advancing super fast, there's more democratic states out there these days, etc. etc. Anyone who says it's bad but has an internet connection is either a teenager or a hardcore cynic.
