Showstopper 26
Do you think the delay helped or hurt looking back on it now? I think it actually hurt them and they lost focus.
high91
they needed more time to take stuff out IMO. They can now ADD this to online for money. So, this delay for release was to make more money in the long run i reckon.
ladx
i think they delay the game to remove some stuff outside SINGLE PLAYER and paste it in the newly created GTA ONLINE Luddite

The delay didn't help you focus on SP at all.

They were supposed to reveal the box art sometime last January, but instead, on the last day of January announced the delay.
Detective Phelps
The delay initially pissed me off, but I eventually got over it. After all, they need to remove some bugs. The delay helped R* release a product with less glitches. But, IMO, R* should have delayed the game for another few months, to fix SP and Online, instead of letting us see a failure of a launch like GTAO. But there would have been more people raging and "boycotting" R*. GTA V had a great single player, but online was absolutely terrible at launch. Lets hope that R* make the most of their time in their next project. By this, I mean that they should get rid of all of the bugs in the time frame they have. I think delay was good in a way as it allowed them more time to fix bugs etc.

Geralt of Rivia
There's no way the delay 'hurt' them. If they didn't delay, the game would've had more bugs and not been as smooth as it was. When the game released, the only major bug was the garage (AFAIK). This could've been very different if they didn't delay.
Beanee
I think the delay was good for the game and its fan. A company with credentials like R* know their industry and their audience; if the delay had any possibility of ruining the hype or the sales, tehy would know about it. Besides, I'd rather it be delayed a while than have to constantly save-n-quit because of some dodgy little bugs lizardman563
Fuzzknuckles
I can only imagine what shape the game was in back when they delayed, but I figure it gave them time to get a stable frame rate and get some more preparation done for Online (which possibly wasn't enough preparation). Perhaps they delayed so they could perfect the lower res textures for 360? Signatures are dumb anyway.

Luddite
I believe the delay was also to allow R* time to add features fans were demanding but they weren't originally planning on including.
Andreas
Back when Game Informer published the GTAV cover-story, Dan Houser and Rockstar in general confirmed that certain features wouldn't be implemented in V. And look what happened in the end, some of those things made it nonetheless into the game! I believe the delay made this possible, but it wasn't necessarily the only reason for delaying V by four months. Maybe less time was required to polish GTAV, but it had to be extended to four months due to the fact that releasing AAA titles in the middle of the summer isn't a good strategy. I doubt that the delay hurt the game, if anything it improved it in a number of ways. But, I don't think it would've been much different if it had been released earlier. So, this delay for release was to make more money in the long run i reckon. It doesn't take a few months to remove a few features.. most people like you have no proof of what they took out. A few radar icons got left behind in the game files? So f*cking what? It happens with almost every game, for all we know, these icons could've been GTA IV icons. theNGclan
GR7
I would say it helped but also hurt at the same time. It's helped since it's the most polished GTA I've played single player wise, but releasing it so close to next gen consoles has hurt GTAO and any future DLC unless they release a next gen port soon. I thought me and my friends would be playing GTAO for years but here I am now with a PS4, partly because I was disappointed with GTAO for various reasons and also because I couldn't justify holding onto my PS3 for one game while the Ps3's value was dropping like crazy. Sure GTAO has potential to be great one day but if R* expected everyone to keep their old gen consoles for one game they are more arrogant than I thought. Here's hoping the game comes to PC/PS4/XB1 some day I would gladly double dip.
killahmatic
Can you believe its been nearly a year since the final big delay was announced? As for whether it helped or hurt, I have no idea. I enjoy V and thats all I can tell you. It does make you curious what product we would've gotten at various points in production.
Lil_B_The Basedgod
I wasn't even really mad about the delay, I was mad because of the way they went about announcing it... they promised the artwork at the end of the month, then "SMACK!" delayed for 5 months... who does some snake ass sh*t like that? lizardman563
I'm pretty sure they added a few vehicles and touched up a few things with the delay. I think it was for the best.

I agreed with the "more delay than they needed" theory because it made sense, there was no way they'd release something this big mid-summer even if they could. But now we see, obviously the game would not have been better if it had come out any sooner. The same could be said every game Rockstar released this generation. And if you've played a game that was forced to hit a release date no matter what, you know delays are your friend. Up to a point. Ash_735
A result of the delay was properties to buy, haircuts and property side missions. Funny enough the things people said were rushed and would have been better without! Luddite
