Who else loves to launch their car using the gate glitch?

Ever since we found out about this glitch similar to the 'swing-set glitch' in GTA4, my friends and I have made this one of our normal activities. While there are a few different gates we know about, we have found the most consistent to be the gate a block west of Michael's house. Several cars can work pretty well such as the Carbonizzare, Cheetah, and Entity, but we have recently found the Sultan to get very high launches because of its light weight. Another reason the Sultan is great to use is because it seats four people, which I have not yet tried to do. So, who else loves this glitch?

I found this video to give a good example:

Yeah, was so glad this showed up in V. Was one of the best things in IV.

Tried, too often it didn't work and I lost patience. The swing set in GTA 4 was much better.

Yeah, was so glad this showed up in V. Was one of the best things in IV.

After hours grinding 'Hangman's NOOSE', I would kick back in freemode and launch my car at the swing-set. It was always fun to see you car skyrocket across the city.

There are a few things you learn about doing this glitch. If the gate is bouncing you back or not moving at all, circle the block so it can spawn a new gate. Different lobbies have different results due to the lag, and this also makes it harder to do with multiple people at once but it will work, and the car you use will make a big difference. The best spot I aim for is close to the support beam the gate is attached to. If you are able to keep your car against the gate at full throttle while it starts to slam shut, you are close to getting a launch. While the GTA4 version was much easier to do, this version goes much higher. I believe I have been to the max height possible in any vehicle and I love to jump out and parachute at the top. The other cool thing about this one is the random direction you might go. You never know what will happen which makes this glitch stay exciting.

If you do it right with a tank, and do the North Yankton glitch at the same time, you have a chance at being launched to North Yankton. I did that once.

I can't get this to work. I've known about it for months. I've tried different cars and gates, and the most it does is bump me back a few feet. Anyone wanna help me? TunnelSnakes4U is my Gamertag.

This has never worked well for me. I can barely get it to work in Single Player. In Multiplayer it doesn't work at all for me.

Nope doesn't work in mp

GTFO, it does work. We've done it together many, many times. If I only had a capture card, but I don't need to prove a well known fact. Get a Sultan, take it to the gate, and don't quit. The Sultan launches straight up and reaches the height that the Lazer stalls at.

I can prove it to anyone on PS3.

I remember I was able to launch a tank two ways.

Sticking the cannon into a gas station door and sticking it in the back of a barracks.

Just been messing around with this, good fun when you get the hang of it. Using random cars off the street resulted in the car exploding when it landed if you got a good height. But when I used my personal Bifta it was OK when it landed - I guess because of the armour upgrades.

At one point the gate started going crazy, permanently opening and closing itself quickly, even if I wasn't near it. If I timed it right and jumped into it as it was moving, it would send my character flying backwards or forwards, with him just staying in a static, standing position. It also sent me up into the sky a couple of times too - again my guy just appeared static for a while as he flew up into the air, before eventually switching to the freefall animation before parachuting.

I also wedged a car in so that the gate couldn't close, then used my own car to drive into it again. Usually the gate just stays open, or starts to close slightly but can't and reopens - but one time it exploded the car that was wedging it open

I found aiming for the join between the first and second panel seems to work best.

yesss!!! So glad one of these has been found. Only without the let down of not exploding on impact like in GTAIV

Oh, very neat.. just went into a lobby and tried this... Sultan went flying straight up basically.

(ahhh, lol.. just launched myself into the stratosphere!)

If you use that thing where you hold the handbrake while controlling your vehicle in mid air (thanks to the guy that posted that couple days ago), you can do 20/30 spins in mid air.

Hey bros, cool story here:

The very first time I ran into that gate to try this glitch, I thought my console bricked. The top 1/3 of my screen was bright blue (sky) and the bottom 2/3 was just gray. Sat like this for about 30 seconds, but my icon was still moving on the map. Tried moving around, nothing.

Sat there and eventually the view returned to normal and my car, was so damn high... it was out of the effing game. I literally got launched into space. When it fell enough that the view returned to normal, I was so far above the ground that I could see the earth's curve. It took a good 3-4 minutes to fall all the way back to the ground and when I did I ended up in the military base. Landed on all fours and drove to the hangar, stole a jet and got out of there.

Got the platinum awards for spinning and flipping, needless to say. Haven't gotten it to work that good since, but I did get a couple more decent ones since then. Hoping they don't fix this, it's just harmless fun.

Ive been playin w this myself alot recently but the sucess rate is low, took me 10 mins for my first launch then my mate spent an hpur and only got flipped back by about 10 feet

Seems to work better w cars that have a squared front (bifta is a good example, imma have to try that) but usually the more powerful ones like sports and supers

Havin tested it a few more times on my own I found if you hit The gate as its open is swings back really quickly and starts freakin out. If you jam your left front quarter panel against the gatepost and keep your finger on the acceperator it seems to be the best spot

Its still very hit and miss but those two tips gave me about 3 good launches in about 20 mins... Altho I went through about 6 cars as they get damaged by the gate movin and eventually they die

Messing around with this today trying to figure out if there's a trick or some way to make it easier to happen. Maybe one clue...I grabbed a convertible Felon from an NPC and was having zero luck getting it to launch after 10 minutes of trying. So I drove it down to LSC and put in a Turbo/race transmission/competition suspension and EMS 4.

Drove it back to the gate and it launched within 5 seconds half way across the city.

(just did the same thing modding an Emperor and was launched immediately :) )

It works but it is very hard. I believe I went all the way to the beach when I tried this.

Hmm, maybe just ignore my previous comment because I tried to duplicate the situation with the same cars and it didn't work. Maybe I just got lucky.. modded 3 different cars and it launched me within seconds each time I went but now it doesn't (the lobbies I was in were full, if that makes any difference)

Yeah it sometimes feels like you've cracked it and can do it really often. Then other times it just won't work.

Here are a few other things I did, aside from launching your car:

Would have been good to have someone in the path of those :D

I also managed to get the gate to spaz out again:
