SilentPatch

Hello, Silent! People pointed me here with this "problem".

The moon is MUCH bigger on lower resolutions (640x480). Is it possible to SilentPatch it to make it keep its canonical size on higher resolutions?

The moon have always been huge in previous games AFAIR :)

Actually you jump with ''Shift'' in SA. It's not a bug anyway.

I see. I assigned the key different.

Space for jumping and shift for running.

And yeah, it's not a bug.

Whenever I add (not replace) a car to the game, the cars come with dual wheels at the rear end. Does anyone know how to fix this? I uninstalled SilentPatch just to check if it causes this problem and yes it does.

Prepare for a soundtrack cripple on Vice City...

https://steamdb.info/sub/18399/apps/

As I recall, they already did for new owners - perhaps more is getting cut? They also put up "DLC" for the original San Andreas audio about 4 months ago but still have yet to do anything with it.

This isn't a script error though, is it?

Model/texture bug

True, this is one of the things 1.1 fixes

Could be worth looking into I guess.

Actually mouse settings are being reset not on game launch but on save load. If you launch the game the settings are unchanged but when you load a save game they reset. It also happens if during a gameplay you go back to menu and load a new save.

EDIT: And I also found another thing that 1.1 has fixed - taxi/firefighter/vigilante missions have counters (how many fares/fires/criminals you have completed since you've triggered the mission). I noticed that when I was making a starter save using 1.0. I first thought that I didn't see the counter because of the IV HUD mod problem but when I compared to 1.1 exe I realized that it was 1.0 issue.

This doesn't seem to be true:

Then why do I have this problem... the only mods I use are your patch, SkyGFX, Widescreen fix (which I see you also have), xbox cars and natural hd textures mod (without replacing hud.txd).

But anyway the mouse sensitivity reset at least is proved to be real. Did you manage to fix it or you still haven't tried?

I haven't tried it yet but I will at some point. I remember it even got mentioned in the official changelog (which I can't find now, oddly).

I have found two v1.1 patches and though patches them selves are absolutely the same (CRC32: E9F6A2B6), they have slightly different ReadMes:

Grand Theft Auto III

Patch 1.1

Contents

Zip file "GTA3patch1.1.zip" containing

gta3patch.exe
gta3patch.txt (this file)

Installation

Start gta3patch.exe.
After clicking next twice, browse to your installed Grand Theft Auto III directory (the directory where GTA3.EXE resides) and click next.
The patch will check for the presence of your GTA3.EXE file. If the patch finds an un-modified GTA3.EXE, then this file will be updated to version 1.1, otherwise no patching can occur.
Click start to begin the update process.
After patching click exit.

The only file changed by this patch is GTA3.EXE which is upgraded to version 1.1

Save game and setting files are carried forward with no issues.

Changes-

- Exception error after blue Rockstar load screen fixed.

- Error loading saved games fixed.

- Mouse sensitivity now saved with other settings (no changes made to existing settings).

- Option for user to play audio files directly from hard disk. Copy the contents of the PLAY discs Audio directory into your installed Grand Theft Auto III Audio directory. Grand Theft Auto III still requires the presence of the PLAY disc when started. This may give better performance on some machines (though worse on others).

- All protection checks (apart from needing PLAY disc to start) removed. Grand Theft Auto III still checks for the presence of the PLAY disc when initially started, and plays audio from the PLAY disc if not found on the hard disk (see above).

The second one has two days earlier "changed" date. I also found some audio patch with ReadMe in German. Anyway, you can have a look here.

In-game crosshair scaling is completely messed up:

8sCbQ4n.png

This is with a 256x256 crosshair :X

Maybe it could use some mipmapping support like you did with the weapon icons?

So... is this SilentPatchable? :p

If the texture you use has no mipmaps, it'd probably do nothing.

Of course, but that's the whole point, if you don't use mipmaps the scaling will remain broken, same applies for the weapon icons.

Unless there's some other method of fixing this, mipmapping support is the way to go.

Could give automatic mipmaps a go though.

Information

Making a SilentPatch and other projects takes a lot of time. Many hours need to be spent to make changes which R* would have done easily just by modifying a source code and recompiling the game EXE quickly.
Lots of bugs have been fixed including those that were previously deemed impossible to be fixed because of their complexity

At the moment, the patch has 18760 lines of C++ code + another maybe 0 lines for sophisticated tools testing the bugs for fixes.
The patch has been very carefully crafted with none of highly advanced semi-automatic generators which don't validate if the fixes are properly made and eliminate the possible errors.
That's why the game should never crash because of SilentPatch doing the memory changes.

Do you like a SilentPatch? Do you think it has improved your gameplay experience?
If so, consider eating a cookie.

Eating cookies requires that you have teeth and can chew, which is standard method for eating cookies.

@Silent

Ya know, people do everything for money... Only don't understand why would you ask people for money for something like a mod. If like the people who made DYOM didn't write thousand of lines of code.

It's a nice joke anyway :D
