GTA characters from III-V appearing in one game?

What if R* were to create a game featuring characters from all the GTAs from III-V and put them into a single game? I think it would be an interesting idea to have past characters be re-created, or "re-born". Of course, not all of the characters would appear...only those that did not die in their respective, original game would appear... some examples, Ray Boccino, the Kasens, Salvatore Leone, Derrick McReary (I killed him in the Blood Brothers mission), and Marty Chonks. None of these people would appear since they all died in their respective games. Any thoughts?

Rockstar's explanations of the difference between the "3D Universe" (PS2-era GTAs) and "HD Universe" (360/PS3) seem designed to avoid this. Rockstar North art director Aaron Garbut said in 2008 that it would be "soul destroying" to "up res" things things they've already done. A PS2-era character looks, acts, and moves differently than an HD-era character, and Rockstar North seems to want past characters to be remembered the way they were.

 

A perfect example of keeping things separate is the appearances of Love Fist in GTA Vice City and GTA V. There are four guys in the band and you see three of them in Vice City but the fourth is not seen until GTA V (except in artwork, which doesn't count). Despite the band crossing over between universes, no characters were redesigned because none of them physically appeared in both universes.

 

Elsewhere in Rockstar this rule doesn't apply: Max Payne has been redesigned in each game (through Max Payne 3 was the first in the series made by Rockstar not just published) and Red Dead Redemption had HD versions of Red Dead Revolver characters in multiplayer.

GTA have 3 Rebooted Universes(Eras) corresponding to the 3 Generations (PS1,PS2/Xbox,PS3/Xbox360)so no it cant happen,and Rockstar said this like years ago,so no need for this thread at all

As we play these games we can attach a lot of ourselves to them... time, place in life, etc... just imagine what it's like to create this. I imagine they're more attached than we will ever be. And anyone that claims they aren't... or isn't a complete nerd with this is a liar. That's why we're here.

I won't even bring in the universes aspect of it, I just want to as WHY? Why are you so eager to have them all in one story?

Sure, it would be nice to see some of them again, but at the same time getting a completely original story is always better then connecting a bunch of previous characters in one story.

Good answer. I believe the only R* franchises that exist in the same universe are GTA, Bully & Manhunt. So I'm guessing Bully 2 & the next GTA will be set in the HD universe. If that's true, then no Jimmy Hopkins in Bully's sequel.

 

For better or worse, I like that Rockstar doesn't mess with the past.

the Manhunt City and Bully City are in GTA Universe,but yeah i was mindblown when i read about that in GTA Wiki.and yeah the Universes(Era) module GTA uses are also in few games and tv shows like Zelda,Dr Who,Star Trek.I think it realky could and i hope they continue with the HD Era in next gen unlike how 3D Era was Discontinue after Vice City Stories.so far the HD Era games are great even though they are not like the Legendary and Classical 3D Era(GTA 3,VC,SA,LCS,VCS).

The HD world/universe is the most comprehensive & cohesive in video games imo and would create more work for them to start from scratch again (although brands are reused). Hopefully it can carry over to next gen.

Yeah hopeful bro,but i also love the way the 3 GTA Era are reboots but only uses Brands it shows that there something uniting them plus Lazlow is a multiverse character(that doesnt count)...GTA and GTA 5 are great and they both in the HD Era(Universe) but i am sure GTA 6 will also be in the same Era but on next gen

I guess it boils down to what kind of story our friends at R* would come up with if they were to incorporate different characters from all of the mentioned GTAs into one game. I actually came up with what I think would be a pretty good story If I had the skills/knowhow, and of course permission to make a GTA game, but I don't know where the story would take place, or even what to call the game, but it but would be some sort of special edition game where the story takes place somewhere between the events of III and IV (and possibly add some of the characters from V). I dunno...but we can dream can't we? lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Ray B. die? Like Derrick, it would be weird having any of the older era characters show up in future games. Because they were officially scripted by R* as being dead.

Yes...Niko offed him in the mission "Pest Control". My examples in my original post are names of characters that died in their respective games...although technically, Vic Vance did NOT die in his game, but he DID die at the beginning of Vice City. So...if I were to make a GTA game, the following characters would NOT appear :

 

Marty Chonks

Ray Boccino

Salvatore Leone

J.D. O'Toole

Sonny Forelli

Johnny Sindacco

Billy Grey

Johnny Klebitz

Dmitri Rascalov

Jimmy Pegorino

Jon Gravelli

All 4 Kasens (Toshiko, Kazuki, Asuka, Kenji)

Both Lance and Victor Vance

The Mendez bros

Marty J. Williams

Phil Cassidy's cousin (can't remember her name lol)

Jerry Martinez

Manny Escuela

 

Even though you had a choice between Francis and Derrick, since I personally chose to off Derrick, Francis WOULD appear in my game

 

And of course, Ryder, Tenpenny, Pulaski, and Big Smoke would be absent lol.

Well, yea, but you still have Claude and Misty as an selectable parent option in GTA Online if you bought the CE. How is that to be explained? I know it doesn't interfere with the story and everything, but... ??????

Lazlow actually doesn't have to be considered an exception because he's not the only character in the crossover category. Besides Willy of Love Fist, who is unseen in GTA Vice City but appears in GTA V, Cris Formage was introduced on the radio in GTA San Andreas and became a "physical" character in GTA V. Another GTA San Andreas radio character, James Pedeaston, gets a followup on a GTA IV in-game website with a photo of the previously unseen character. Going the other direction from physical to unseen, Love Fist member Jezz Torrent appears in GTA Vice City and is mentioned on Fame or Shame in GTA V.

 

What's consistent in this is characters physically exist in only one universe but possibly also exist unseen in the background media of both. Unseen background characters from the 3D universe are eligible to become physical characters in the HD universe if Rockstar isn't done with them.

 

Characters who appeared in 3D are eligible to continue in the background of the HD universe unless Rockstar is done with them.

Yeah the only thing shared by the 3 Eras (Universes) are the Brands and Background Characters(some made apperances)in the HD universe but that all.The Cities get re-imagined,New Storylines,New Locations and New Gameplay mechanics.i.e with the HD Era,

1.Taking Cover was introduced(GTA 4,EFLC and GTA 5)

2.The Locations were totally re-imagined

3.Sleeping to save game(and quicksave in GTA 5)

4.Realistic Car-jacking i.e break window,hotwire

5.Realistic and a new Wanted System(GTA 4-GTA 5)

6.Advance NPCs

and more.The HD Era made the Series enter a more realism phase also.

I would like to post my ideas, but I can't due to the fear of somebody else stealing them. Besides, I'm sure there's alot of folks out there that have their own ideas for a GTA. However, I will gladly make a list of characters who I would consider for "resurrection" (those being any character that did NOT perish at some point, or ones who you had a choice whether to kill or not). I'm not exactly sure about V's characters, since I haven't completed it yet lol. What would happen if Trevor were to hook up with Phil Cassidy? Or maybe have Franklin during his time as a repo man (but BEFORE the events of V), such as a series of repo missions where you either have to repo a vehicle yourself (with repercussions), or you have to help defend Franklin while HE is trying to repo a vehicle. I swear, I have so many ideas it's almost mind-boggling lol.

Claude would be the perfect character to seemingly break the rules we know and return. He's uniquely mysterious with his silence and debates about his name and whether it is or isn't the same character in GTA2 and GTA3.

 

Of course best way to reintroduce him would be to drop him into a new game without explanation. Nobody knows his name and nothing is explained about his whereabouts prior to the new game. Keep him mysterious and let fans debate what happened.

Dan Houser Lezlie The Benz expressed his wish to create GTA Universe with all GTA Cities.

As Rockstar is known to be very tight-lipped when it comes to details, for now we can be certain that one day it may become a reality ONLINE.

Unless Rockstar turns into something like EA or Activision, it won't happen.

That what The Benz one of the GTA teams leader said,in an interview.there is already 15 GTA games, by the time the series celebrate it 20th anniversary in 2017 (1997) i see it getting to 20 games in total

Wish I could lol it would definitely be quite an experience,and it would be alot of fun...I made a post on a forum (it was either this one or the GTA section of the PSN forums) awhile back suggesting that R* should have a contest where we the fans submit OUR ideas for a GTA game, rather than them using their own ideas for a change, with the winner having his or her idea(s) being selected for the new game and also getting a prize pack of some sort, or at least a free copy of the game. THAT would be cool lol.

No disrespect bro,but for a 16years old series that have spanned 3 generations that wil be a bit awkward although it would be cool for GTA Online seeing it the future Online component of this series and might come with Every Singleplayer GTAs.i cant remember a game series that have used fan ideas,not CoD,Tekken,Street Fighter or even Assassins Creed.We might be fans of this beloved franchise and want to put ideas but it a Rockstar Intellectual Property and only them know what best for it.come on bro they have been doing it for 16years.
