Will They Increase Max Players

Originally GTAO was thought to have 32 players max but they cut it down to 16. Will they add more slots in the future since the land is so vast?

No no, originally GTAO has always been thought to have 16 players max. Shortly before it started, somebody reverse-engineered the code and said they saw the number 32. The maximum number of players turned out to be 16, as originally thought.

Probably the hardwares of both consoles can't handle more than 16 players.
To be honest I don't mind, whenever i join a session it's always full of players in los santos. Yeah I can understand, it's a huge map and it needs more slots but it's like that for this time.

I highly doubt it's that much of a hardware limitation. Hell CS Source can handle 64 and that game is a decade old. So can many other modern games. It's probably because R* servers can't handle it right now but once it's been out for a while, surely they can increase the server capacity and allow more players.

No. It's apparently a console thing. Wait for next-gen.

if GTAV releases on next gen I'm sold. I bought my current console when GTA 4 released.

Not if they release on PC at the same time though. Then I won't even bother with next gen.

Yeah, probably only one person. One daft person.

Resistance 2 had 64 players online, but that was a different game so it has nothing to do with GTA.

GTAO is 16 player - end of.

No FPS map is near the size of GTA5's though.

No, because they can't code

^^ This. Rockstar can't code for sh*t. I mean, come on!!! All they've done is make a massive multi-player online game with so many variations of things that you can do without them even adding their own built missions and races and deathmatch modes etc.. A f*cking 5 year old with QBasic could make something better. Isn't that right, SopFox3?

Are you kidding me? The 360 and PS3 can barely breathe with GTA V running let alone GTA Online with 16 players.

It's not a servers thing. It doesn't matter if there's 32 players in the same session or split into two sessions of 16 players.

If the consoles could handle more than 16 people in the same session then it would be like that.

Anyone can code better then ROCKSTAR GAMES.

Online server is laggy when someone else is driving making it harder to shoot them rather then going for bad sport and blowing them up.

Let's not mention being stuck in a loading screen of death

Lol you seriously do not know me.

I been coding C++, Lua Scripting and Java Script for years and stopped at 2010 but I guess you like to assume everyone are skids right?

He would have probably gone "ugly" if he'd understood more about your response. You, sir, know NOTHING about how something of the scale of a game like GTA is developed. Good for you that you can write a console app in C++ that adds a couple of numbers together, or writes "I IS KOOL" to a text file.

From what you said it's clear that you have a very minimal understanding of professional software development, either on a general business level or on a higher level that is required for games development. You mention C++, fair enough, but then you mention LUA and JavaScript. LOL!!!

Good luck with your games company. I'm sure Rockstar are quaking in their boots.

Is it actually impossible or is it just limited for time being?

I know it's a different game but MAG had 256 players online at a time.

Doesn't have to be 32 players, they could just bump it 24 or something, I can't see how it would cause major issues or any, the game runs smoothly when there's a full server.

I'm not familiar with the source code for GTA (surprise, surprise), so I can't comment 100% assuredly, but it's most likely something that would need so much of an update that it would mean downloading most of the online portion of the game, which likely overlaps with the majority of the SP game, so it would be a massive undertaking. I believe we'll be at 16 players for this iteration of GTA. We may have more in a later version, but maybe not. It'll probably be dictated by the "normal" amount of players that online games have. While a lot do have 32 players, and a small amount have more, 16 seems to be the norm, for whatever reason. Only the future of gaming can dictate what happens next.

thats what i heard and read too

gta 5 maxed out the limitations of the current ps3 and xbox

thats why lobbies are only 16 people

cant wait for the next gta on the newer consoles

Xbox 360 and ps3 isnt powerfull enough to render more than 16 players.. why?? you ask? Every player is custom and has different statistics(clothes, gender, skin color, actual stats, tattoos, etc. Etc.) from one another then add in everybody's personal car with all kinds of tuning options + the big world with police chases all over and random sh*t happening. Thats why you cant have more than 16 players online in gta.

Cod players will notice that they took the ground war gametype out of ghosts for the same reason. (Next gen its still there i believe)

GTA SA MP will answer that question for you

Either it was 500 or 1000 for max players.

It takes a talented coder To make a server go up that high.

But 500? Lol gotta imagine how amazing coders can be nowdays

That's not always true.

APB was gonna be for xbox 360 and that has 50 players and thats the most game with the most desiging for your character.

Also there's games for ps3 and such that got more then 16 players.

BUT it depends on who coding and how they coded the game...That always matters I would know.

More player = more connection sucking.

FALSE. That was just a rumor, R* always said 16.

If we get 32 or more than 16 players, it will have to be PC and/or PS4 and XB1. Also, you have to think about spreading things like police and other enemies over those 32 players. If you have 32 players, those 32 may be getting chased by cops at the same time while shooting at the same time. That would mean you have to connect 32 players too eachother, while having 32 cars, 32 weapons and hundreds of cop cars, regular NPCs in cars and pedestrians all at the same time. PS3 and Xbox360 simply wouldn't be able to handle that in such a big map. The game sometimes will already drop frames when 6 players shoot explosives at each other, let alone 32...
