How to combat a tank on a roof.

stand behind it and exit passive mode

wait for the 9\10 seconds and put sticky bombs on em

Lets get thru the playing first and will see how it goes. We should prob stop talking about this and get a lobby going, get these ideas into motion and see what works. Get you onto a rooftop with that tank and just let everyone have at it, put some of these theorys to the test.

 

Well if you put everyone in a lobby against one you'll take me out. I'm not going to beat everyone. In a public lobby it doesn't work like that.

If you fly directly above a tank, it can't shoot you. If a tank's on top of a building, if I stay above said building, he can't shoot me because tanks can't aim straight up. Buzzard's can shoot straight down. Besides the fact that a buzzard's rockets fly further than a tank's cannon can fire, it's completely possible to sit just outside a tank's range and spam missiles while watching all of his rounds explode just shy of hitting you. Most tank spammers have just been lucky enough to not run into a two man buzzard team that knows what they're doing.

Even if you're next to a wall, if I stay directly above you, I can still hit you but you can't hit me. Unless you're a complete scrub, the buzzard's leaps and bounds faster and more maneuverable than the tank and it's extremely easy to shadow a tank staying out of his sights. For me at least. Besides the fact that, as I mentioned before, I can shoot further than you so if I feel like taking twice as long to kill you, I could just stay out of your range and empty on you, if you've limited yourself to the roof of a building, you have no chance to so much as dodge.

You underestimate the power of Passive Mode

 

And how badly most tank pilots feel the need to kill people in passive mode. It's like when they see someone in passive they get tunnel vision on them. Passive mode and a little teamwork can put an end to it, especially in tight places that are hard to navigate. All I know is I'm glad I own one now, but for the most part its more or less an anti-tank tank for me. It's pretty satisfying to finally be able to turn the tables on them.

Buzzard is the choice of tool here. But unless the tank driver is a noob, it requires some serious maneuvering not to get hit by the straight tank shots with quick reload. The quite static position makes it a better target than on the streets though, since the movement on a roof is limited, off the radar could help coming up from low altitude behind a building for two quick rockets, Grenade Launcher may work as well, a bit more variable compared to an RPG or similar equipment.

Beat me to it, but yes, this - might take a while, but that tank isn't going anywhere and can't hit back.

 

Personally, I don't have the commitment - I'd rather just leave the session than try to work around some other player's ego trip.

had one guy think he was the first person to think about doing this.

 

i walked up to and out of sight of the tank turrent, stood by the ladder to the roof and called in a mugger. mugger goes up the ladder, i follow close behind, mugger pulls the guy out, i kill him and start to spawn kill him from the roof with his own tank.

 

he left the session after the second death.

well there is more than one rooftop. i believe i was the first one on the forum to post roof tanking.

right now the new twist is to do it after a hacker puts a 2 billion dollar bounty on you.

 

its not easy getting a cargobob, calling in your tank and then flying it to a rooftop while every white dot tries to kill you. after 20 minutes on the roof having new players begging for the money the game had an unknown network error and signed me offline.

Get a Lazer jet..fly high enough and dive bomb at your tank so you have no chance to shoot me out the sky and you can't back up far enough to get away without fallin' off the roof and blow you up in 3 shots.

 

Then fly around til you get another tank.

 

Thats too difficult for a lot of ppl though.

The tactics I would use have already been posted, but another key word is variation. Repetitions of these ideas would enable people to counterattack against one's assault.

 

That being said, I too would probably just go off the radar, sticky a plane and nose-dive into you whilst some allies distract you on the ground, themselves being off the radar. Afterwards, we'd make sure you would cease the tank camping or for that matter just trolling in general, then let you go on your way.

Won't work fairy. You cannot snipe a tank unless you hit the right front side or the back of the vent on the right side. Enjoy wasting your bullets.
