To those who "can't see snow" in their GTA

Hey everyone this is a little topic informing everybody who knows nothing about the snow in GTA Online. Alright so it has started snowing yesterday/two days ago so you can see tiny snowflakes on your screen(these are not only textures floating on your HUD like in Battlefield or such, you can get your camera close to them and see that they are, obviously these will start falling more frequently at the end of the day so the whole of San Andreas will be covered in snow, but for now all we have is some frosty roads(much more frosty than it was yesterday, now you can see it from the ground, not only when you're in an aircraft)

Wrong.

Snow is either on or off. It will not fall and gradually cover the ground, and what you are seeing in the air has ALWAYS been there.

Snow will turn on tonight at midnight, GMT.

You would have seen this if you'd looked at the miriad of other threads about this.

Correct. People don't seem to understand how this works.. they can't just make textures fade in and out, its a simple on or off when you boot the game up and that's it.

Imagine the work that would have to go into making snow appear gradually as it was falling, over the whole map. That would probably take up as much resources as the game already does without snow, if not more!

So, GMT. Anyone want to explain what time it's coming for other time zones?

I have Cry Engine and last Christmas Crytek gave us an amazing plugin which let us make dynamic snow. I had mine appear at some point, and after a while the original model textures was covered by snow(it was really realistic because it used the bump maps so snow only fell where it was supposed to fall) and judging from the pictures Rockstar has made a similar script and I'm sure they wont just make it randomly appear after a time, and that snow what I can see has not been there if you look at this image where there's more of those snow flakes

EDIT:

I saw your extract of the script HOWEVER that's just the define controlled, but the script that it defines might have a fade at the start(but its just a THOUGHT)

The snow is only a timecyc being loaded by a simple script.. and chances are the script that loads the snow textures is pretty simple too. Although, the timecyc could have different weather cycles of snow, light snow, no snow, etc..

It's achievable, of course, but not on this scale. It would take too much work and we'd lose too many other features of the game in order to shoehorn it in.

And of course, the data in my link only defines whether to show the snow or not, and the start and end times. It's obviously not code so has no bearing on anything else. There are lots of videos, however, showing the snow. It is literally on or off - that wasn't me summising from a couple of variables. It's what we've already seen.

I agree that it would be too difficult to make the snow build up gradually but im on there right now and there are small flakes in the air...

Yes there are, but they have been there as long as you have been playing the game.

I've given up trying to convince them mate, you should too. They believe, and their belief is strong. quote name="Furry_Monkey" post="1064371017" timestamp="1387899905"]

Yeah I don't believe you people. Source? Until then gtfo. Doesn't look like its "snowing" any more than it always has.

That's not fair. If they get it at 6pm then they get it 6 hours before the UK! :O

we will all get it at the same time you just have to figure out when your time zone is and if it ends at a certain time then ours will end when yours does

It's only there for a day and a half. You're getting confused with the other Christmas stuff.

That's bullsh*t. I got on today and I was in a server where there was no snow on the ground but snowflakes falling. This wasn't always there. I then switched servers and there was snow all over the place.

No it doesn't gradually cover the map but those flakes weren't always there.

If you're in Australia, 00:00 GMT is 11:00 am AEDT, I think this includes Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra & Hobart. It's currently 3:50 pm and I'm not sure if snow is falling atm I'll gave to go & check..

I understood your point and at first I thought the same but since small snow flakes appeared and knowing that Rockstar(used to) create quality stuff I thought it wont just appear, but all they did is just turn the effect on for those who join the session after 00:00
