Clue #1: Player's choice - You can decide to either chase him and kill him or let him escape, but he will be reported dead anyway...

Clue #2: Only met one protagonist, but aware of other - Michael goes to his therapy sessions and a couple of times they talk about Michael's old buddy, Trevor.

Thanks! Here's a new one. I can't decide if this first clue is going to be obvious or no help at all!

Correct! Clue explanations:

 

Clue #1: The worst excuse

If you encounter Ron in free mode as Trevor you can push the right directional key pad (on the PS3 anyway) to say something to him, which will be from a selection of put downs. One of them Trevor says to him "you're a sad excuse for a man!" Ron feels obliged to agree, replying: "the worst excuse, Trevor!"

 

Clue #2: Questionable firearms skills

In free-mode you will sometimes see Ron in Trevor's yard indulging in some target practice against some bottles. Although he protests the gun is poorly balanced, his shaky arms and legs suggests its a case of a poor workman blaming his tools. If you shoot the bottles for him he will walk away sulking.
