I was about to try that.

But the uphuck tiger release doesnt work in vmware, need to burn it.

Can i ask what release you have used for the install, and did you follow a guide or just did it yourself?

I got my hands on a pre-patched copy of leopard, using the BrazilMac patch. The guide was rather simple, once I looked past the mumbojumbo. It was installed directly from XP to a partition.

There were some hiccups, but if you boot up OSX while holding down the F8 key, you can add the -v tag and watch the startup process visually. This can help you find out if there are any hangups.

Unfortunately, my onboard ethernet isn't compatible. Over at the insanely Mac forums, however, they have a list of compatible PCI cards, though, so I'm going to have a go at that. Still trying to get my sound to work as well.

Thing about me, is, i like macs as a computer, don't get me wrong, i just don't like the overall tone of their ads, and the fact that They defined PCs as computers running windows, when IBM originally defined PC as "personal computer. Thus, macs are personal Computers judging by how they are portrayed in the commercials.

Hello, I'm reviving this topic from the bottom of the page!

Just so you know, I have the latest iTunes version and my iPod (nano, 3rd generation) is also up-to-date.

So here comes that time when I have to recharge my iPod, and meanwhile, I update it with new songs.

This is the major problem I found now:

I like to transfer my songs to the iPod and then edit them from there; not the original files.

So I transfered some of them, into a playlist in my iPod. The tags were messed up (it showed both the artist name and the song name under the "name" part), and I wanted to fix it. Now, my usual method is to select all the songs, right-click them, go to "convert ID3 tags" and check the "reverse unicode" box.

Today, when I did this, all my songs titles were changed to japanese language. Fine. I did the "select and reverse" method once more and there it was, all clean, in place, and in english.

Thing is, DO I REALLY HAVE TO DO ALL OF THAT to get my songs titles right? Is there a simpler method? Because everytime I add my songs to the iTunes library they are like that, with both the artist and the song name under "name", and I don't like that at all.

mushkin 4GB (2x2GB) RAM.

Will this work for my 1.86 GHz Intel iMac? It's from the first line of Intel models, though I know it can only take up to three gigs, I'm gonna either sell or save the other 2 gigs for my MBP which i may get in April.

...besides that I ain't sayin nuthin.

I posted this in my topic regarding system restores in Tech and PC chat but I thought maybe some of you iFluent people could help me. I have to system restore my computer, and I'm backing everything up. I have a large external hard drive, so I have something to back it up to, but I don't know how to back up my iTunes. I can't lose this library. Can anyone please help me?

On XP, I think by default, everything gets stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes".

Just back up that folder and you should be fine.

Yeah it will work, it will just show up as 3 gigs instead of 4. Speaking of RAM, I ordered this last night:

It should be here on friday, I'm excited that I'll finally have enough ram to stop the constant page outs.

I think you need to delete it from the folder, or shift+delete would've done the trick.

Now that you got ram, you just need a bigger hard drive. biggrin.gif

I currently have a sh*tload of torrent data on my internal HDD. I'll move them to another machine sometime shortly though. I really wouldn't mind having a 500GB hdd in this bitch though. Maybe in a few years when applecare is up and they are cheap.

  • 3 weeks later...

Apple announced the MacBook Air today, the world's thinnest notebook. After watching the guided tour, I have a few comments. I think the gestures that are built into the trackpad are a nice feature, I just hope that it works as well as he showed it. I noticed that they removed the optical drive, which can be replaced with either a USB one, which seems reminiscent of USB floppy drives ( dozingoff.gif ), or it can do its own wireless thing. I guess the wireless way requires the other machine to be compatible with it, and, unless I missed the change recently, not too many PC desktops have wireless.

Also, they removed the FireWire port. Doing support for Macs, target mode is a nice feature when imaging or pulling stuff off of a busted machine. I hope they have some other version of it planned for the future, because I imagine that it'd be a pain to pull out the hard drive and look at it in a WiebeTech, rather than just holding down 'T'.

I am ready to replace my macbook. I was really hoping for a macbook pro update.

Definitely not buying the air. Its got nothing over my macbook. I take it to uni all the time and I have never found it to be too big or heavy for its purpose.

Macbook air is a huge disappointment. First of all it's incredibly thin and that worries me that it won't be as robust and durable as other apple products. I think that users are looking for small footprint, not a "how thin can we go" cock waving show within the industry. Secondly there's a lack of I/O, I can understand excluding ethernet (though I'm sure there's quite a few people who won't) but having one USB port is unacceptable. MicroDVI? Thanks for making us buy ANOTHER video adapter, apple. Third is an internal battery, this negates everything you have done to make a portable computer. On a long flight or train ride people need the option to switch out batteries, you have failed here.

One thing that does excite me is the motherboard:

This is pretty amazing. It houses 2 gigs of onboard ram, a 1.8GHz core 2 duo, and a GMA X3100 graphics chip. Damn nice, I hope that they can build on the speed of the new smaller core 2 duo's and deliver a real ultra compact - with a CD drive, full I/O array, and a smaller screen - sometime soon.

Also, WHERE THE f*ck IS THE UPDATED MAC MINI! GAH... I want one badly for a media center PC, but they aren't powerful enough right now. Bring me a mac mini with a 2GHz core 2 duo, aGMA X3100, 2GB of RAM, and a superdrive for $599 and you've got a sale.

Still expensive, though. $1800 for the basic one, $3100 for the one with a 64 gig SSD and faster proc.

I got a few questions concerning iPods and iTunes:

I have iTunes version: 7.2.0.3.4, i have not upgraded it yet (latest is 7.6). I was told a while ago by someone (cant remember who) that you can't send songs you do not own (songs downloaded of p2p etc...) to the iPhone using the latest version of itunes, is that true? I dont have an iPhone but plan on getting the iPod classic (already have g4 iPod), is it the same deal with the classic? I dont want to get it if i cant put all my music on there. Also until i get it want to update iTunes, will it effect my current iPod? It need reformating, i dont want to reformat if i cant put it all back on again.

I have yet to upgrade from 7.5, but I'm completely sure that you'll always be able to sync MP3s and such to iPods and iPhones.

Maybe what this person meant was that iTunes only lets you use iTunes music store files for making ringtones, which is true (although there's a workaround or two out there).

aside: yay, I'm getting a MacBook. It was shipped today and the Apple store says it should be here by Friday.

13.3/2.2/2X512/120/SD-DL

And I'll upgrade it to 4GB in a couple of weeks.

Yeh, as a user of itunes 7.6 and an ipod classic i can confirm that any supported format will play in the software, and sync to your ipod regardless of its origin. Purchased from the itunes store, ripped from your personal collection or downloaded etc...

Enjoy your new toy edwards. My new 2x2GB sticks arrived today, so my MacBook Pro now enjoys 4GB and my Mac Mini 2, definitely a worthy upgrade considering how cheap memory is now.
