Does this thread includes discussions about iPods and iTunes? If so, then I need help.

I believe so, yes. What's the problem?

I've had my iPod Touch for almost 2 months now and I still can't set it down. Especially since I just 'jailbroke' it, so now I can have all of the nifty features of the iPhone without the phone, plus I've customized all of the icons and even managed to put a few games on there. Quite simple really.

The problem is I hate iTunes because I can't use it properly biggrin.gif

I'll start with a basic problem:

I have a video that's in MPEG format. iTunes can read it but it says my iPod (nano, 3rd generation) can't read this format. Ok, iTunes can convert this video to a iPod-compatible format, but then THE SOUND IS GONE!! What is going wrong?

Are you on a mac or windows?

Sorry mate, I can't help you, though I could've sworn I had a section labelled Music Videos on mine. I can't seem to find it now though. confused.gif

EDIT: I knew I'd seen it before. If you right click a video and go on Info, you can change the type of video into a TV Show or Music Video so it's sent to that area. Don't know if that helps in any way.

"Music videos" are sent to the "Music" part of iTunes. Makes no sense to me, but that's how it works icon14.gif

i found it. its where you choose to go to music or tv and movies. im actually looking more forward to watching tv shows on my ipod touch than listening to music lol. and the audiobooks are cool.

going to be a pain in the ass to have something that big plus you risk damaging a $300-$400 device while you're lifting.

i have a shuffle for the gym, it's awesome. clips right on my pants.

you can get the shuffle for 49 bucks on the refurbished section on store.apple.com

It's about the size of a n iPod video. Not really that much of a pain in the ass.

But to answer the question, if you're only getting an iPod for the gym then get either a shuffle/Nano/Classic, because you really don't need to spend $400 on a music device for your workouts. If you're going to use it for other things, such as videos, photos, wireless internet, etc., then I'd say go for it. I take mine just about everywhere because 99% of the time I'm listening to music. It'll probably be a pain in the ass during a workout because unlike the non-touchscreen iPods it's not as easy to tell where the play/pause buttons are, since they aren't actually buttons on the Touch. But still, that's a minor setback. You can always just create a workout playlist in iTunes and set it to that when you start your workout.

All in all I'd say if you're going to make use of its features then go for it. I certainly don't regret buying one. If not, then you might want to look into getting a Nano.

Once I eject my iPod through iTunes, is there a way to make it appear there again without disconnecting/connecting the cable from the iPod?

Not that I know of, sorry Saget.

And it depends on how much storage you want. The Nano or Shuffle might be better for a workout, simply because they're lighter and have no moving parts, which means that it's less susceptible to damage if it falls.

I just fell in love with the Ipod touch. Couldn't care lees about the Iphone though.

Getting the touch for xmas. I'm undecided between 16gigs and 8 gigs. how long is the battery life? I've read that it's mediocre. Personally, anything above 8 hours is fine by me, as the main use for it will be for journeys, and i live in a really small island. Takes around 5 hours max to cross from one end to the other lengthwise.

also how is the Video playback, and are the earphones included any good?

If the iPod Touch earphones are the same as the other iPods, then they aren't that great. I can clearly hear the difference between my headset sound and the iPod earphone sound. I'm gonna get new earphones for christmas =)

You can always hack the iPhone and use it with whatever phone company you want. But then Apple is gonna hunt your ass down and try to block your phone.

well then whats the point of doing that?

You never know for how long you'll be able to use your iPhone before Apple gets you. They might find you out in a month, or never, but the thrill of the chase is always there...

Wel, this sucks. The battery in my iBook is about shot. Since I got it, it went from 60% down to 27% of it's original capacity. I can get only an hour out of it, and that is if I shut the wifi off and crank the backlight all the way down. I think I might sell it either in it's current condition (500mhz, 576mb RAM, 80gb HD), or pop in it's original 10gb HD and drop the RAM down to 128mb, and sell the HD and RAM seperatly, whichever brings the most money, but swapping the HD is a PITA.

Now I need a new machine. I doubt selling my iBook will bring enough cash to get me a baseline macbook. I am looking in to getting a mac portable with a webcam, or just get an EEE PC. If anything I can always shove OS X on that. Though I will need to either get a huge ass SDHC card, or a USB case for my 80gb HD and drop all my data on that. Though that would be an extra draw on the EEE.

Any thoughts? I have also been thinking of selling my 20gb U2 iPod. I need video, and 20gb is overkill for music, I only use 4gb of that. I have about 16gb of movies and another gig or so of photos, so I might get a 30 or 80gb 5.5g iPod video, since I know I will need the space to expand.

As long as you don't update the iphone software you'll be fine. When a new software update becomes available wait it out a few days and read about it online. If it bricks a sh*tload of hacked phones you'll know about it and know not to download it.

My opinion on the whole mac vs. Pc thing (most of the time, my opinions change when i'm angry) is that they are both PCs (IBM original defined it as Personal Computer) and that when either of them perminately fail, they fail spectacularly. And if you need the features of a specific OS, there's always virtual machines.

I love Apple's products, I just hate the company in general. And a proprietary OS is bullsh*t, in my opinion. I love Leopard, btw.

I just wanted to ask a question before I place my order on an 8 gig touch (ipod)and a WiFi router. Do I have to set up anything out of the ordinary for the wifi router, and does the touch support tabs, and online based msn clients?
