Okay, here's a problem for all of you to brew over:

Upgraded my mum's machine to panther today, connected to my wireless network (which worked perfectly on tiger beforehand) and then it cut off randomly for no reason. Entered in the WEP key again and everything worked fine, came back to my PC and a couple of hours later when i went to see how she was finding things it turned out that she had been cut off again. Any idea why it would do this? As i said before, everything worked fine with tiger - entered the WEP key (with the $ at the front for some reason) on the initial setup and never needed again. But leopard seems to be rejecting it. It's nothing to do with the signal reception or anything like that. I haven't changed any settings or anything on the router here and the settings on the imac haven't changed (apart from whatever changes itself from the upgrade from 10.4 to 10.5).

I'm currently using a netgear DG834GT - not sure if it has the latest firmware, but nothing on it has changed since it used to work on tiger.

Any insight?

okay thats seemed to work, thanks smile.gif But it used to do it at random times, so it might still cut off. But at the moment its fixed

Plug in your iPod and click 'Sync'?

That too much of a hassle for you?

Edit: According to some websites it appears the Macbook does not have a CD-Rom drive. So that means I can't play older games on my Mac?

Macbooks come with either a slot-loading Combo (DVD-Rom/CD-RW) or SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW). Your CDs should work just fine.

Hai all.

I got a iPod Video, bought this year from Florida while my father was over there.

So, I've got all my music and music video's on it, but last night, I thought I'd rip Mr and Mrs. Smith from DVD into the right format, and put it on my iPod.

It ripped successfully, and it transferred successfully onto my iPod, but my iPod doesn't play it. It says loading like, every 30 seconds, and I'm left with a black screen.

Any help please, as I'm going on holiday soon and would love to have this film on my iPod to watch on the way.

Thanks everyone.

iPods are waaaaaaay over rated. And theyre a f**ing ball ache to transfer music.

Just because you don't have an iPod doesn't mean they're sh*t. I used to think that most people got them just to be *trendy* and uptight. Now it's because they actually have enough music to fill the bloody things.

f*ck I hated that, people having 40GB iPods when they barely had 3 gigs of music.

I need to get myself one of those new Nanos though. Hot sh*t.

actually that didn't work aswell as I thought, still get kicked off for some reason - this time with the latest firmware on the router. No idea why its doing it, every other thing that is connected to the router works fine, apple product or not. Any other suggestions?its getting annoying having to type in my wep key every hour or two for my mum sad.gif

My guess would be that something is interfering with it, like another base station, so it knocks it off. Only thing I can think of is to add that router to the top of the preferred networks list?

Okay, the macbook's got updated today and I have been thinking about getting one.

If anything it will be the mid-spec one with 2gb of RAM. Does anyone else have one? The main thing I am wondering about is how you find the screen.

For above.

I bought my Macbook when they last revised them up to 2.16ghz as standard. The screen? Well I love it, keep it clean and it looks sweet. As for the update, as with the rest of the community we were expecting a new look with aluminum like the Macbook Pro's. Possibly in January we'll ge them.

Now is a good time to buy if you like what you currently see.

Just added a 500gb LaCie External HD to my setup. Still not too sure if I'm settled with my current mouse, the Razer Pro 1.6. I didn't like the Mighty Mouse as it didnt have enough buttons but I liked the wireless, now with this it has plenty of buttons but no wireless.

Ram is expensive when being added to a pre-built computer, if possible, get the one with lower ram, buy your own and add it in and save some dough. I don't know how much more expensive it is, but it should be cheaper.

I just bought the lower spec one after I realized I'm not eligible for the Education discount.

Feeling excited.

Since iPod's were mentioned I figured I would throw out that I have the first full screen model (3rd generation I believe) in a 20GB.

I've had it for about three years and it has treated me great. I've kept it in great condition and besides a couple slip-ups where it freezes and shows the "go to iPod support" url, it's been running great so far. Definitely the best music device I've ever owned. Not to mention, iTunes is really a great media player. I plan on switching to one of the new models with the 3D album covers and slightly different interface. I'd like to be able to finally put movies, music videos and videocasts on my iPod; lord knows I have enough podcasts and my music collection has grown to be pretty extensive within the past couple of years. tounge2.gif

Hello all, me again. Just wanted to let you know I now have a Macbook and am pretty damn happy with it. I'm still getting used to the new interface but I am warming to it's simplicity and sexiness. Thanks to all those people who gave me a little help with my worries I had over getting a Macbook smile.gif

Does anyone have any method for getting rid of "scuff marks" on the back of your iPod? I must've got complacent as it looked some damn good shiny, and I suppose it will get dirty eventually, but it's a tad annoying. Anyone know how I can clean them off, or make them look less noticable?

does anyone have an ipod touch?

My mate does, he loves it to bits though he wishes it had more space. A lot more smooth than the iPod classic, but it requires a bit of organization as the cover flow needs the album artwork, so unless the CD doesn't already have it (rare that they don't now, iTunes is a dominant market) you'll have to put on your own. Lovely piece of kit though, just wait for a price drop or a bigger capacity.

My software update just popped up telling me OS 10.5.1 is available. I'm too lazy to install it right now but hey, it's news.

Well I have the iPhone, which is close enough. The best thing about these are their screens. I have had mine for about 2 months and not a single scratch. I also dropped it when changing on Halloween from about 4 feet on to hard tile, and nothing happened physically or internally. I still get the "Whoah! An iPhone!" every so often.

Now I'll get on to the internal stuff. Coverflow is always fun, and that what everyone who tries out my phone goes to first. Also, you can add user applications for stuff like NES, IM chat, and etc. The only thing I think they should have included with the touch was a camera, but that would have called for a thicker phone. For reference, the touch is about half as thick as the iPhone.

Does this thread includes discussions about iPods and iTunes? If so, then I need help.

I believe so, yes. What's the problem?

I've had my iPod Touch for almost 2 months now and I still can't set it down. Especially since I just 'jailbroke' it, so now I can have all of the nifty features of the iPhone without the phone, plus I've customized all of the icons and even managed to put a few games on there. Quite simple really.

The problem is I hate iTunes because I can't use it properly biggrin.gif

I'll start with a basic problem:

I have a video that's in MPEG format. iTunes can read it but it says my iPod (nano, 3rd generation) can't read this format. Ok, iTunes can convert this video to a iPod-compatible format, but then THE SOUND IS GONE!! What is going wrong?
