My retina just arrived this morning. f*cking gorgeous. Don't want to hook it up to my externals and lose that wonderful screen.

Saw one at the Apple Store, lovely screen.

Anyone know a good place to buy a used Macbook/Pro/Air? I know good ole Ebay is one, but anyone know of a better place?

I think you can buy them straight from Apple as refurb machines.

Put windows on it which makes me sad but it plays DayZ flawlessly and it reboots super fast to get back to MacOS for everything else. Can't recommend it enough.

Imi is right, refurb is the way to go. Decent discount and full years cover from Apple. If buying used try to get something with AppleCare on it.

So it seems my wifi on my macbook has crapped out. It can see access points, but it times out whenever it tries to connect to one. My other devices connect to my network, and I've tried my macbook on other networks to be sure it's not only mine.

f*ck.

EDIT: And now 8 hours later it works. Goddamn weird.

ANOTHER F*CKING EDIT: It now times out when connecting to any network again. This is starting to get f*cking irritating.

Looking to buy a 13 or 15 inch MacBook Pro non-retina with an i7 processor. Apparently the 13 inch comes with 2.9GHz and a 15 inch only comes with up to 2.6GHz... anyone would like to opt on what my pick should be?

And also, since I have never had a Mac, I plan on getting Parallels to run any Windows operations that may come my way. I looked up some YouTube videos on the software and it looks clean.... but I trust GTAF more. Anyone care to share they're opinions on it? Anyone have Parallels?

Parallel is renowned for being good and reliable at running Windows applications on Mac, or so from what I've heard, I've never used a Mac but I've never seen anyone complain about it. I would go for the 13 inch if the screen size doesn't matter and the performance is noticeable. Otherwise go for the 15 inch as the screen size may be more noticeable than the speed increase on the 13 inch and also using your Mac will be a lot easier and more comfortable.

EDIT: 0.3GHz difference isn't noticeable that much, especially when using an i7 which will run almost all applications extremely smoothly. So I say 15 inch.

Thanks mate. I'm gonna give Parallel a try then. Also, thank you for mentioning the fact that 0.3GHz won't make too muchof a difference. Since I do like to work with a bigger screen and it won't make too much difference I'll go with the 15 inch. icon14.gif

What sort of Windows software will you be hoping to run? Anything like games? In which case I'd reccomend just installing Windows on a separate partition.

Hey, not sure on the software, I just want a computer that can run Windows as well. How can i install windows in a noter partition?

Well, with that being said, I went through with the 13 inch and am using it right now. Anyone have any links or videos that introduce the user to some of Mac's unique features? OSX Mountain Lion by the way. Got a great deal with free Office for Mac. Thank you Best Buy.

Apple calls it "bootcamp". Basically, run the bootcamp assistant (comes with your mac) and it will allow you to set up a partition and install Windows.

Then, after you've installed windows, the bootcamp assistant on the Windows side will download a series of drivers for all of your hardware.

This is by far the best way to run windows if you ask me; if you don't mind to reboot every time you switch over. On my retina MBP this only takes seconds, but my previous MBP (late 2010 model) it took a while to boot up windows.

Parallels, on the other hand, will allow you to run Windows "inside" of OSX. Very handy if you need to flip back and forth between the two.

Thanks fellas, I've been trying to get used to the new Apple experience. It is very similar to Windows, but I still don't see the point in things like Mission Control and some others. Still getting the finger commands or whatever you call them memorized.

I bought parallels about four or five years ago -- but then didn't use it much. Then the version ran out and it was useless. As mentioned, using boot camp is the cheapest best way to go. And after poking around things on OS x for a while, you'll find you can do pretty much anything on OSX that you'd used to do on windows. Maybe apart from some gaming.

well the iphone 5 was dissapointing

I disagree, but to each their own.

The real question is: iPhone 5 or Nokia Lumia 920?

I don't know what more people were expecting from the iPhone 5? Well, maybe a better camera would be nice (right now it seems 95% certain that it's just the same as the 4S, plus new low-light features and tweaks), and a 720p screen but other than those they've improved on most aspects of the phone.

Lumia 920 looks great though too and will likely be cheaper.

So, yeah, pretty much what was expected. No clear reason to update from the 4S, if you ask me!

So very true, yet I'll end up having waiting lists and lineups at work when preordered open and it's released.

Hmmm nice bike

Will I be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard without any issues? I have a mid-2009 15 inch Macbook Pro, 4 GB of ram, 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I know the earliest Mountain Lion can be installed on is a 2007 model I believe, but anyone with a similar system to mine with Mountain Lion having any major issues, or anything to do with battery life or sluggishness or overheating? Or am I just overreacting after reading about people having issues with their systems?

No clear reason that I can see, I can just about get decent 3G coverage around my area, so 4G is certainly out of the question for me. No NFC, a tweaked design and 4G is the only major change.

It's our most longest iPhone yet!

I don't feel the urgent need to upgrade from my 4S unless I can get a super deal through my work or something. £529 seems too much for such a small update.

I'm on an iPhone 4 from release in 2010 and it doesn't feel remotely outdated after the 4S and 5. People who were rocking a 3G when the iPhone 4 came out I think would have felt quite outdated. But it looks like my iPhone 4 is going to stay quite up to scratch for at least another year, giving it 3.5 years of lifespan. I'm happy enough with that.

Yeah, I know people who've happily skipped the 4 generation to stick with their '3's - so it makes sense to upgrade now. I'm usually happy to sit out a round of updates unless there's some killer advantage.

Take the retina iPad, for example. I think it'd make reading it a bit more delightful but not that much better than the iPad2.

And I love the sh*t out of my retina macbook but the people who were able to skip the first generation will be in for a treat with the second, I'm sure.

Anyhow, thought this was hilarious:

I just got Windows XP on my Mac with Parallels. Works pretty damn smoothly if I may say. Better than I expected.

Not sure what to do. Word is that the bandwidth due to be auctioned off soon in the UK is on frequencies not supported by the iPhone 5, only EEs. I really want LTE as within 2 year it will be commonplace on phones, not to mention coverage in London will be high to start with. However, I'm not in the mood to be raped for my money by a network for another 2 years simply because they've got an exclusive feature (I put up with O2 when they were the only iPhone network but that's for an entire phone, not just faster net).

I have a feeling EE in the UK are gonna charge an arm and a leg for their LTE to start with simply because they can. Combine with the the iPhone and that gets pricey...

Thing is, my iPhone 4 (launch day) is starting to die. Battery is fading. Either I sent it to get replaced and put up for another year or more, hope Apple address the LTE frequency issue (same way as they did for the Verizon iPhone) or jump in now and get raped.

No. You're not allowed to say that unless you live in Canada. Check out our prices for mobile phones and plans then be grateful you're charged so little.

Ha! No kidding. But who are we kidding - everything is expensive here.

Mark, the 4s is a great phone and looks like it's a lot cheaper now - maybe that's an option for you?

To be perfectly honest, LTE hasn't blown my skirt up. My wife has it and we get somewhere around the same speed - I'm on the 4s - so there's that.

Yeah, I know we're selling the 4S 16GB for $79/3 year here at Telus and it was $149 like 3 weeks ago so it's damn cheap now considering it's not a bad phone by any means.
