Daz
Well I never played the mod, though watched a lot of content from it. The only way I could explain it is that the standalone feels more like a survival game than a military game. Though I do like that in ArmA2, it defo feels like you are completely just a random civvy and the menu systems working more intuitively. I like combining items together and refilling magazines with ammo. The main draw I have is just love looting. I can't get enough of it. igotskiz
Could I roll with anyone here who still plays DayZ SA? I bought it a while ago and never got to it. I need someone to show me the ropes. Daz
Played for hours on another server last night with W-J-F. I can't believe we actually managed to find eachother, it was a f*cking miracle, just stumbled upon eachother. So rare to have someone not shoot on sight. There is defo some sort of bug with the new patch, I am eating like 4 course meals and the hunger and thirst barely go up, run 200 feet and its down again. Filling up from a well and saying "I feel really full" yet I am hungry and thirsty, which makes no f*cking sense. We actually managed to find stuff then as I was in the little houses inland of factory I got shot in the face, I was trying to put my hands up but it took my gun out for some reason so I got shot. But I survived and stood there for a while with my hands up, dropped my gun and bandaged then sat on the floor, they eventually just executed me after a minute. What a bunch of dicks. I had good stuff and since that point we could never find eachother again or stay alive from laggy as f*ck gameplay and zombies catching up and killing us. We both kept passing out and dying from starvation and thirst as well. Must have been another 5 hours from then playing and twice I managed to get within 200 feet of him but then killed because of lag and zombies catching up and glitching me. Such a pain in the f*cking ass. The food and water system needs a f*cking revamp. SAS can survive on artificial sweetener packets for a month. In this game the greedy little sh*t won't stop being hungry after 4 cans of food and 4 drinks. It is complete bs. Did they add f*cking tapeworms or what? f*cking bs. Anyway W-J-F found an insane building, I could never get to, in the north, with a penthouse and it had like 50 guns in it. Insane amounts. Wish I could have seen it. Sounded like tenpenny tower. OysterBarron
Sometimes your character can be so starving and thirsty that you will need to do a couple of mass feeds. I know one of mine kept saying thirsty and hungry even though i had eaten loads and drank loads, All i did was keep on feeding him once the Stuffed effect text vanished from the inventory screen and he was fine after a while. I believe i ran into the building you speak of on my fresh spawn at Novodmitrovsk? i got a shotty and some supplies you can also scale it to the top almost quite a view i might say. I also found the most Holy of Holy boots! legend has it the wearer is enabled to walk on water on equip Tanto, Daz and Davo the Assassin
Daz
It still doesn't explain why when I haven't played in a while I spawn in starving to death. It takes a long time to get out of that, especially when spawning in on a refreshed server with not much loot. Also found out an xbox controller works with the game now. I had no idea that would ever work. Some controls don't work, obviously menu manipulation doesn't but you can move, look, crouch, zoom, fire and interact, so with the controller so those long treks across the entire map are going to give a little less wrist pain now which is nice. It also auto-sprints when you hold forward so that will be handy. Edit: Just had another sesh with WJF, he hoarded two tents and hid them near the airfield (public server) and had soooo much stuff, as we were looping round looting the hangars we got shot and killed. Despite me aiming out of the hangar and looking we were dead in seconds, no doubt was a sniper from miles away, I have no idea how he killed us that fast but he must have been camping for a while. f*cking sucks. MP5K gone, 1911's with magazines and a CZ75 with mags gone, pristine green balaclavas. So much insane sh*t. Respawned and had numerous horrible failed attempts, bullsh*t like being spawned in water, getting lag and getting near destroyed and being black and white for ages, and being swarmed by 5 zombies and passing out. However during that life, I managed to find a revolver and ammo and as I was working my way up to electro from cherno I saw some guy looting a body and as WJF had just been killed there earlier I stalked the guy and shot him in the back with one shot from the magnum. It felt f*cking amazing. The guy didnt have a gun so probably not the same guy but he could have respawned as there was only 3 other people on the server and one was the c*nt at the airfield. Either way I felt a bit bad but also really good for getting such a bad ass kill having snuck up so close. Respawned after passing out and got geared back up, found another revolver so now we have one each, got a mosin with ammo (thanks to the ammo being found on the guy I shot) and a shotgun which I sawed off (only reason I carry a hacksaw) found a load of other sh*t but now we are nearly geared up to hopefully get back up to the airfield and get our tents back. I mean f*ck did my heart pound when I was stalking that guy. Real life sh*t bro. Edited March 7, 2015 by Daz OysterBarron and wjf

wjf
Had a pretty up and down week, from being ridiculously geared up with 2 military tents, to losing it all multiple times.Jumped on today as a fresh spawn on a server with about 10 people on it, almost immediately found a truck and then went on a mad dash around the map looting all the military spots as fast as i could. Had a fair few close encounters with other players being in the same areas as me looting, but managed to stay hidden which was a good thing since as per usual it took an eternity to find a mag to go in any of the guns i was finding. Eventually managed to get an AKS-74U with one mag from the NWAF in one of the barracks. Had also found 3 AKM mags so i was feeling pretty pleased with myself and was about to log out. Then I saw smoke on the runway and a heli crash. There was now 18 players on the server so I just lay in a bush and scoped it out for about 15 minutes. Eventually decided to take the plunge and ran for it. There was an M4A1, 2 30rd mags and 2 10rd mags for it, and on the other side there was an MP-133 Shotgun with pistol grip and a f*cking Amphibia S, neither of which I have ever seen before. The minute I spent trying to sort out my inventory so that i could take everything with me was close to the most stressed I have ever been playing a game, heart palpitations and everything, I felt unbelievably exposed. Hilarious that in reality there probably wasn't another player within a mile of me. The feeling of relief at getting to the trees safely and being able to log out was pretty incredible. Not sure I can ever log in again and risk losing it all now. Edited March 10, 2015 by Witchking-J-F OysterBarron and Daz
Daz
That sh*t is incredible. The other day when you died in the military tent area by some c*nt with an AK was some serious f*cking adrenaline. Aside from sneaking up on that guy I killed the other day and seeing that truck drive past when I didn't know they were in the game, that was some seriously scary sh*t. Hearing that barrage of bullets when I rarely even hear any ever, is so f*cking scary. Even when you were trying to shoot that zombie chasing me with a .22 pump action, the crack is scary as sh*t. I think we are getting much better though, even though you got shot on sight I managed to at least successfully avenge you with the revolver, I just wish it was easier to reload manually loaded weapons without using the menu. If only you just needed loose rounds in your trousers, vest or jacket, even if it was a slow animation. I think that would work better than using the menu system. I need to log on so you can offload some stuff to me. I don't have the pistol mags anymore though. But I don't have a primary so I can free some of that space. I just need some decent guns and mags then I will feel like I could fully defend while looting. I think that was the main problem. Weak semi auto pistols or manually loaded guns aren't too great in firefights against other humans. I have no idea how many shots a magnum takes to kill as it is so laggy. It probably only took 1 or 2. I shouldn't have blew my load too early, f*ckin' noob mistake. Oh well. Also what the flying f*ck is up with the glitched out food and water system? The amount of fruit and veg and tins of sh*te we ate on our way to green mountain must have been able to feed a whole f*cking village in Africa for a week. wjf
The dream is over, in a predictable dayz bullsh*t manner. Log in in a building in Grishno, immediately get hit by either an invisible zombie or through a wall. Run away and bandage, notice that i am sick from infected wounds, reach for my trusty alcohol only to discover that the c*nt zombie had one shot ruined it. Run around for half an hour looking for more alcohol or antibiotics, find none, die. Rip in peace me. No chance of making it back to Grishno in 10 mins, so goodbye m4, goodbye 40rnd cmags, goodbye pistol grip shotty, goodbye ammo box, goody CZ75 with 2 mags. Hello pink raincoat and sporter .22. I think I am going to start just giving sh*t away even more than I already do, since the bullsh*t deaths when fully geared are so painful. Either that or I am just never playing alone again whilst geared. Daz

OurJud
I've been watching gameplay of this title for a year or so now, and with great envy (don't have a rig that could run it), but as a non-player I've always wondered a few things. For instance I've noticed that people in this game don't shoot (other players) on site, like they do in GTA: O, and instead choose to take them as prisoners and take their gear. I love this aspect, but what I've never understood is why. Why do players in this game spare other players' lives, when they could just as easily shoot them and still take all their gear? Is it simply a code of etiquette that is obeyed, or is there other reasons? And also, if a player gets captured and knows he's going to lose all their gear, why don't they a least try to fight? Is this a role-playing thing, to try and recreate how they'd behave in a real-life situation?

Some do try to hold up people and rob them, this is solely because it's more entertaining than shooting them for some people. You also run the risk of damaging people's gear if you shoot them. The reason they don't try to fight is usually either because they're roleplaying, or because they have a lot of basic gear that they need but the robbers won't care to take, or because they're far inland and they have a well-fed and healthy character which is a way better starting point than a starving fresh spawn on the coast. Here are some old (Dec 2013, launch month actually) screens of holdups, they can be quite fun: OurJud and Daz

OurJud
Yeah, I've heard (and seen) how terribly buggy it is. Still, I love the slow-burn aspect of it, and proper first-person physics. Another thing I don't understand is why it is so buggy. When you read the GTA threads about the current set of bugs and glitches, you get a lot of posts from PC gamers who say they're going to wait until it comes out on PC so that the mods can fix the bugs themselves. If PC games are so customizable and modable, why haven't they sorted this game out yet? Edited March 21, 2015 by OurJud

If PC games are so customizable and modable, why haven't they sorted this game out yet? DayZ is an online-only, server-based game. Unlike GTA, where you can just do whatever you want to the game, allowing people to mod DayZ would lead to cheating and idiotic 'fun servers' with vehicles and machine guns spread all over the map. The DayZ mod basically died due to this happening. So, long story short, no mod tools are available for DayZ standalone. Daz and OurJud

OysterBarron
Well there are other single player zombie survival games like state of decay but a lot of the actions by CPU players are obviously scripted. I think it would be an even harder job to mimic the outcomes and scenarios you experience in dayz against human players and make it believable. It's the human element that makes dayz the game it's. The amount of coding required to make unique experiences like the video that don't get repeated often would be astronomical.
