For those that recognise the name of Poly Styrene, you'd be forgiven for not realising straight away that this is indeed the same woman who fronted the punk band X-Ray Spex. However, this solo debut is about as far away from punk as you could get, likely to turn the heads of any hardcore fan. Rather than insisting you lose yourself in the sweaty mess of a band living to deliver a moment, this album instead insists you take a break and lulls you along with Styrene's sweet voice and lush instrumentation. A stark contrast to her later releases, I'd consider this an oddity but certainly not a terrible one. It displays Styrene's versatility and cements her memory.

Sublime, nice, haven't listen to them in ages.

As for me, decided to give this a listen before bed; Rain Dances by Camel.

Lovely progressive rock offering from the late 70s, there's some great moments on here. It kicks off with some instrumentals and you're almost surprised to hear vocals as they only really come in half way through. My only gripe is the closing track, which is just a single edit of a song earlier on in the album. It feels a little cheap but I quickly deleted that one to keep things a little cohesive and consistent. Purists might scoff but it made for an easier listen.

After taking some time off from work due to minor surgery, I'm attempting to reset my circadian rhythm ready for the impending night shifts. As a result I'm catching up on a couple of new albums and revisiting some favourites from the year so far, including this one - Post Pop Depression by the supergroup made up of Iggy Pop, Matt Helders, Dean Fertita and Josh Homme.

It's as unlikely as it is welcome, especially following the slew of solo LPs from Iggy Pop where he took the plunge into cringeworthy crooners. I appreciate he went in a new direction for a while and maybe scratched an itch or two but it didn't do anything for me. It felt like Iggy had forgotten who he was in the midst of doing car insurance adverts. However, as soon as I heard about this release I was ready. I am a massive fan of whatever Homme seems to touch, and while I don't so much care for Arctic Monkeys past their debut I love Helders as a drummer. This could only have gone well and it really delivered, playing to the strengths of each contributors. This could either be Iggy's swan song or just another door opened in his illustrious career. Whichever it turns out to be, it satisfies both criteria and I highly recommend it to anyone who's remotely a fan of either member here. As a bonus, it's fantastically produced - nothing feels muddy and there's a crispness reminiscent of more recent QOTSA releases.

My radio just played this. I don't ever remember hearing this cover from FNM before. Then again, it's been so long since I listened to any music from FNM so I probably forgot. Anyways, I really dig this cover from them!

I can't believe it took me this long to get around to this. I've always been a bit of a "background" fan of Jane's Addiction, in the sense that I wouldn't actively choose to listen to them but I don't want to die in a bus crash. I remember going to see them back in 2008ish when they toured with Nine Inch Nails and it was a great show, so that was a catalyst when it came to holding them in a higher regard. When it came to earlier work, I largely ignored it for some reason but I'm sorry I did.
