Picked up the latest Iggy Pop album, Post Pop Depression, which stood out to me because he's working with Josh Homme and Dean Fertita of QOTSA and Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys. I'm going to be honest, I probably wouldn't have have bothered if he hadn't been working with these musicians.

 

It's a decent album, very few weak moments. I think we're at a point now where superstars in music are coming to realise their fall from relevance and whether this means they take more risks or throw off the chains of expectation, it can often wind up being one of their most memorable albums. I had thought Iggy Pop had lost the plot a bit, especially considering his last two studio albums have been compiled of crooners sung in French (I know) but this is so refreshing. The production is great and there are some genuinely catchy moments to be found.

Listening to the whole thing rn. HOB released five years ago today. This is dubbed as the "GOAT" mixtape by some people, I'm inclined to agree even though I'm being a bit bias

I swear to god, it's the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It begins with Panzerlied, then something I don't know, and then the classical Katyusha, followed up by The British Grenadiers, and then some other things before Yuki No Shingun and some other stuff.
