Stumbled upon this randomly. The sample my god sounds amazing.

Aztec Camera - Oblivious / High Land, Hard Rain (1983)

The singer Roddy Frame was only 19 years old when Aztec Camera released this album. And he was only 15 when he wrote this song.

Post 90's U2 is a bit pedestrian and bland but I discovered this one gem and it they truly have the ability to write brilliant music still even if a lot of it is crap. The 80's, 90's U2 was always new and strange.

I do wonder how U2's album would have done if it hadn't have been forced on iPhone users without consent. I know I've framed it in such a stark and strict manner but it left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. It did remind me though that this isn't the first time the band made a deal with Apple - many moons ago, U2 collaborated with Apple in making their own branded iPod Classic, which was black and featured a red click wheel. My friend owned one, and I thought it looked nice despite the obvious U2 branding. I seem to remember it had some faux signatures on the back, and if you didn't flip it over you'd think it was just an alternate colour scheme. I mention this because I feel like the album gets a lot of flack for the way it was distributed. Had things have been handled differently, would the album have fared better? I don't think so but I'm incredibly biased - I remain completely unimpressed by U2 and haven't liked a single album they've released. Still, maybe I should give some of their older work a listen with fresh ears and an open mind. It's been a while and maybe I'll have a change of heart.

Whilst I've got you @Mister Pink, Autechre released a new album this week and it's good, even if their album artwork and general aesthetic has always been a bit pants. I recommend it. I know you've been curious as of late so this is a good a starting point as any.

I completely forgot all about this. Pretty sure this was around 2014 so I was 13 years of age at the time, and was pretty confused as to why a random U2 album just popped on my iPhone. I was not aware it was their new album and I didn't really read much into it, I just knew it was a U2 album and I didn't really like it upon listening to it at that time. I personally just do not care for U2 and not because they forced an album down iPhone users' throats, but they just never piqued my interest whatsoever. But to be fair, I haven't really listened to U2 in quite awhile so I might dive into their discography eventually and see what I think. I might check out their 1983 album War this week, but as of now I have been on a massive R.E.M. binge.

Anyways, since I'm here I might as well share what song I am currently listening to, hence the topic. A classic from David Byrne.

David Byrne is great, got his book "How Music Works" for my birthday a couple of years ago and I was that taken with it I got a copy on Audible too just in case I want to read with my eyes closed. Hasn't happened yet but it's an interesting read, I recommend it. I know Byrne can be a bit smug at times but he's earned it, I don't care. I'll never forgive him for how ugly some of his album covers are though. What were they thinking with Talking Heads: 77? That's two posts in a row now where I'm complaining about album art!

If you are at all unfamiliar, Byrne has collaborated with Brian Eno a number of times, including this. A fine album.

Love David Byrne and Talking Heads. While I was in high school, I requested that book "How Music Works" to be put on the shelves and about a week or two later it followed suit. A very great read. And yes, the cover for 77 is rather distasteful. I love the covers for Remain in Light, More Songs About Buildings and Food, and Speaking in Tongues. The really cool thing about the More Songs About Buildings and Food cover is that it is a photomosaic.

And yes, I am definitely aware of Eno and Byrne's collaborations. My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and Everything That Happens Will Happen Now. In fact, the Eno song name "King's Lead Hat" is an anagram of Talking Heads. One of my favourite Brian Eno songs.
