For years, I thought the Todd Terry track was the original. It seemed unfathomable to me that there were actually two versions that preceded the Todd Terry version, one obviously being the original and the other one being the one posted below. This track sounds so much better as a disco song than a house song, IMHO. Also damn, the vocalist has a brilliant voice.

 

 

This sounds great on Saturday night (which, for future reference, is when I'm posting this). This song is, yet again, another gem that was introduced to me via the Vice City Stories soundtrack.

Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue and Cat Steven's Tea For The Tillerman are a rite of passage if you ever consider yourself to be a man. I don't make the rules, but that's the way it is. There's a fair bit of music from the 80s here but that was purely by chance, it's just what I've been listening to the most lately. I will maintain Oingo Boingo is one of the best bands from the decade full stop.

Low is a f*cking masterpiece! I was spinning it on my turntable just last night; it's my favorite Bowie album, hands-down.

I think I heard he's re-recording that album. Anyway, funny enough you bring him up, I was listening to him the other day. Haven't listened to him for a long time. It's good to revisit artists after some years. Sometimes you hear the music differently.

Yeah, it's a re-recording. I can't believe he was 22 when he first wrote it. It's such beautiful music. I'd like it if more artists that are still active in old age do a similar thing, almost like a re-imagining of older material. Things change as time goes on and it can definitely shape how you hear things. Yusuf's voice has aged like a delicious wine. I listened to it this afternoon, really good. It's up there as one of my favourite albums of the year easily.

That's good, I'll be sure to check it out. And yeah, he's slowed down a bit in his age (watched him sing Peace Train live) and the voice is still ostensibly his and that distinct voice but almost raspier. That's insane he was only 22 when he wrote that album. People will spend a llfe time trying to write 1 song in their lives that's half as decent as any song on that album. 

 

Now for something completely different.. Mungo's HiFi, they are a Glasweigan soundsytem and music collective. I only knew on of their tracks from a Dub/Reggae night I went to. They have this amazing track about bikes/cycling. I thought it was hilarious dancing to this at 2AM. 

 

 

Started exploring more of their stuff.. found this Soul-Reggae track about one needing a spliff after a sh*tty relationship. It's catchy.
