What if GTA:O is just a beta?

So because GTA Online have bugs you guys assume it's because Rockstar messed up pretty bad.

 

If a normal car manufacturer would suddenly start making tanks but theses tanks would have some minor problems, everyone would say they have messed up pretty bad?

Most people dont quite understand how multiplayer coding works. There is 2 ways, Server/Client and peer/peer..

 

Server client is very strong vs hacking because all logic is done on the server. This puts heavy heavy heavy loads on the servers and forces you to have a mass of dedicated servers to serve your game. But its secure... server detects everything.

 

peer to peer is horrible at stopping hacking because each client is authoritative of itself. Nothing managing it. But its much easier on the server... it has nothing but passing info between peers to do... No logic, no math... your xbox/ps3 does all that.

 

They started with Server/Client... thinking it would work, launch... proved otherwise... Server log jams... No one can connect... dc's everywhere... they then changed to a mix of the two types to mediate the problem knowing that not every 1 million user will still be playing in a week and they didnt want to pay for mass servers to handle the load...

 

ATM they are running a mix, and as the total players online slowly goes down they can add back the server/client logic that would stop most hacks or they can add more servers... but why add more when the players playing is going down?? pay for servers and not need them a week later?

 

They knew just like any other online service (simcity, obamacare) that demand would swamp them at the start, but instead of spending a hell of a lot of money on servers to handle the MAX load they are determining what the average load will be and setting up servers for that... so not to but things that are only needed for a short time.

Your example is wrong for one simple reason - I could have gotten the game for free. The only reason I paid the money was for the multiplayer. Just like you buy Battlefield series for the multiplayer, even if they have the piece of crap story attached to it - originally it never had a SP component. Just like this game can be obtained for free once it hits PC, if you so desire to play the SP only.

Also, I am not mad. I had other reasons to buy this game than you did , or the vast majority on this forum. The reasons I bought this game are closing to zero fast, sadly.

Reasons:

1) you were eager to try out the new gta

2) you wanted to play with friends who will undoubtedly buy gta

3) you were eager to see what gta online is about.

For the wouldn`t work part, I had actually never had issues connecting with friends. Lobbies breaking down after missions, but never major issues. About the "3", it hasn`t sucked balls at first. But it is looking less and less like an Open World, where I can do anything. It`s looking more like North Korea, with Lil` Kim stealing my stuff.

The history I have with ea...yeah they did, they ruined the bio shock franchise, turned them into money whores. Sim city launch was the worst in history. They screwed me with SWTOR. Having it launched without a sub right from the start, I would have not bought it. Then it all gone downhill. Thought GTA:O would be the next "nice thing". It`s turning into a piece of sh*t grind, which I don`t like, eversince I stopped playing Lineage 2. I have nothing against working for what I own in a game, but ending up with negative balance after a mission if I dare throw 3-4 C4`s is retarded.

 

There is also a problem of the game missing Heists and BAWSAQ.. and my Rat Loader

In-game Virtual Currency has no real value, nor do Virtual Items - that can add and delete as they see fit ... and if we assume you bought Cashcards, are you saying you spent $60 of cards ($3.75M virtual currency) modifying THAT vehicle?

I had the Rat Loader in my garage - after patch 1.07 it was gone. Pirated copies are not stealing - it`s just one copy not sold. Rockstar cannot lose money it never had. I lost a car that I did, though.

 

And no, I didn`t buy cash cards and I will never do. But I invested my ingame money, which are my own time, into that car. I want my money back.

 

About the stimulus, that was given to everybody, simply because they f*cked up. It was the first 2 weeks worth of lost time and pissed off folks losing up to 5 characters`s worth of money and levels. I spent more than 500k modding my cars. My Rat Loader was the 7th car. At that point I was all out of the Rockstar money and well into my own.

Didn`t pirate the game. I said I WOULD HAVE if I wouldn`t have wanted to play the MP.

 

And no, I will not get over Rockstar taking away one of my cars. It was not hacked car, nor glitched, nor SP to MP, or whatever car. It was 100% legitimate car, taken off the streets, parked normally into my garage from Oct 10th up until we got the Stimulus money, when I modded it. Then it just vanished, with no good reason.

 

I don`t like the precedent is sets - Rockstar can take anything from you, without showing good reason. Sure, it is written in the EULA and TOS, but that is only to preserve their right to take away illegal stuff and whatnot. Now they took LEGAL stuff, too. Not even EA and it`s record of Worst USA Company for 2 years didn`t do this sh*t.

R* is incompetent, simple as that. As bad as other online MP's are, COD for example, at least they function properly and don't randomly delete characters, stats, levels, etc. This was R*'s first attempt at online play, fine. But this being their first foray into online play, you'd think that someone/some people over there would've taken the time to figure things out instead of blazing through pounds of kush. They should've taken this a little more seriously instead of releasing a bug filled game to the public. I mean, their first online event, Vespucci Beach, was a COMPLETE disaster. So much so they had bury their faces into some humble pie and tell everyone that it was "cancelled" due to technical issues.

 

This is certainly an Alpha release and all of us paid to beta test the game for them. I find it funny that all the bugs/glitches are still present in this game but the cash cards? Works like a charm. At this point I think R* is just trying to save face as much as possible. The games a wreck and with each update, hackers find more and more glitches to do. Clearly showing that the devs at R* are incompetent and have no idea what to do going forward. As such, they'll probably eek out a few DLC here and there just to satisfy the fan boys but all of this is probably going to be a HUGE lesson for GTA VI.

What if we are like rockstars beta testers? It is plausible, for a studio such as rockstar to mess up so bad, what if this is a small part of something larger down the line? There is so much untapped potential in GTA:O, but never used, sure it could be used in the future but we will have to wait and see. So what about it? Is online just a beta for something coming along with GTA:VI or is it simply an incomplete build with a uncanny amount of bugs.

Tell you what... it would not be a problem if Rockstar would have allowed me to pay the 60 bucks when I wanted. Like.. in the first month, 10 bucks, just as their game was unplayable for 2 weeks. Then, 15 more, simply because the game is missing Heists and BAWSAQ, so it is only fair that it is not worth full price either. That amounts to 25 bucks. The rest of the 35 will be paid as follows: 10 for Heists, 10 for BAWSAQ and 15 when they can guarantee that they won`t take any other car from my garage (Rat Loader perfectly legit, fully modded.. gone).

 

Since they asked 60 bucks upfront.. I have the audacity to ask for a full game upfront too.

 

I am THAT special in believing that I am ENTITLED to a fully working product, since I paid in full for it.

All games on the market give me SP+MP for 60 bucks. Rockstar gave me the same old sh*t, only with a delayed MP. Nothing in the world is free.

 

Always funny how the free things always come bundled with something that costs money, no? Just like DayZ mod, which requires you to buy Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. And now, they just released the standalone - which is not free... its 24 euro. http://store.steampowered.com/app/221100

 

Now, do we bet that GTA:O will never get a free standalone?
