How to copy a car to your second character's garage

(unfortunately this seems to be patched as of 1.10)

This may be old news to some of you, but I will post it for those that may not know. You can copy a car into your alt's garage. It is pretty simple, but you do need a friend and both characters need to have the same garage/apartment.

Start an invite only session and invite your friend. This is because you don't want random players interfering. Then pull the car out of your garage and have your friend watch it so it doesn't disappear. Next you need to move away from your vehicle. Make sure you go to someplace safe and switch characters. When you switch characters, your original character will be replaced (in the session) by a computer generated character. If this character is too close to your car, it may steal it. If it gets killed, the car will be locked. None of this will effect the original character, but will stop you from duplicating the car. A good way to avoid issues with the NPC is to simply walk back into the garage before switching characters.

The next step is to have your friend invite you back to the session. It is important that you allow your character to spawn completely before accepting the invitation (don't try to change sessions while you are still in the clouds) Once back with your friend, just get in the car and drive it into the garage.

Please note that if you get timed out and returned to GTA V (story mode) while switching characters the car will lock. But once again this doesn't effect either character, it just means that you will have to try again.

There is a way around this though. When you get the message saying you timed out and asking you to push the X button, accept your friends invitation from this screen (instead of pushing X). The car should still be accessible at this point.

As random things happen, you might have to do this more than once to get the car, but as of now (after 1.09) it does work.

I hope this helps.

(updated and added information after 1.09 and maintenance)

wait so doing this we can also have 2 characters at one spot while one's an NPC

that'd be a cool picture

My second character has a Surrano SUV that my main character would very much to get her hands on!...... oh and his Sentinel Cabrio!

LOL that would be cool, but ideally you want the player to be close to the car, and the NPC to be away from it.

I really want to try this! I don't feel like winning 25 races to unlock all the upgrades....again (If you can still do that anyways)

The best part is, if you combine it with a 10 car garage, and repeat it several times (slow as it may be) you can possibly have over a million GTA$ worth of sell-able cars in your second character's garage (with a shared bank account).

  • 4 weeks later...

This is a lot easier than the other similar glitch involving accessing the ps store, calling an alternate car from the mechanic etc.

Nice work. Looking forward to trying this

TeammateHelper

I wish I can do this to get my little brother's Asea, but I don't have much friends online when I can play freely.

The consequences of that could be disastrous. I foresee 2 possibilities. 1. Seeing your other self could put him into shock and he'd simply pass out or 2. It could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that could unravel the very fabric of the space time contium and destroy the entire universe. Granted that's worst case scenerio. The destruction could be limited to merely our own galaxy. Edited by blk95ta

For spawning vehicles this would be awesome to get the car, have your friend hold onto it after you modded it up and then give it to your other character. lol

So it works on website purchased cars as well?

So this glitch is okay to do while some others are not. Yes, makes perfect sense.

Yes you can copy anything in your garage this way. BUT premium cars copied this way cannot be sold.

Still working after the maintenance.

One thing I should add to the tutorial is that both characters need to have the same garage/apartment building
