I was surprised to see Chizzy go out, don't think he's recovered since that thrashing he got off Taylor in Ireland a couple of months ago. Them two nine darters on Saturday were brilliant and I think we'll see another.

My money is Adrian Lewis to win this year for the third time.

I'm bored to so I'm going to post my predictions

Monday December 16

Ronnie Baxter 3-1 Ricky Evans

Devon Petersen 4-1 Mohammed Latif Sapup (P)

Kim Huybrechts 3-2 Ronny Huybrechts

Steve Beaton 3-1 Petersen/Sapup

Mervyn King 3-0 Darin Young

Tuesday December 17

Colin Lloyd 3-1 Beau Anderson

Zoran Lerchbacher 4-2 Ben Ward (P)

Vincent van der Voort 3-1 Matt Clark

Michael van Gerwen 3-0 Lerchbacher/Ward

Simon Whitlock 3-0 Ross Smith

Wednesday December 18

Andy Smith 3-2 Steve Brown

Morihiro Hashimoto 2-4 Paul Lim (P)

Justin Pipe 3-1 Arron Monk

Michael Smith 3-0 Hashimoto/Lim

Adrian Lewis 3-0 Dennis Smith

Thursday December 19

Mark Webster 3-2 Mensur Suljovic

Gino Vos 2-4 Royden Lam (P)

James Wade 3-0 Darren Webster

Wes Newton 3-0 Vos/Lam

Kevin Painter 3-1 Tomas Seyler

sh*t sorry didn't mean to double post.

I've never really been a fan of Chizzy. I was so happy when he got thrashed last night. As for Lewis, I can't see him winning. I can see Barney or MVG winning this year.

Your predictions aren't bad but I doubt Whitlock and Wade will get 3-0 victories. Whitlock's not been playing too well or so I think from his performances at the Grand Slam. As for Wade, he seems to be going through some sh*t (understandable seen as though he's got all of those health problems). I can see Wade vs Webster being a tight match.

EDIT: Baxter isn't playing his best, Evans is probably going to see a 3-1 win here. Can't wait for the battle of the brothers.

I was there last night. Chizzy deserved to get beaten; he only got back into the match because the other guy started to choke before dragging himself over the line.

Also, if anyone here is at the Ally Pally and feels tempted by the 'Bullseye Burner' -- a burger that claims to be the hottest in Britain -- do not waste your cash! I had one and was not really much hotter than a vindaloo. Plus the sauce soaked through the bun and went all over my hands and face. Meant I missed the entire qualifier game after the Chizzy game cleaning myself up.

I wanted to go tomorrow because my three top favourites are playing, I guess the tickets I've got for the final makes up for that! Going to the Premier League semi's next year too. I've never been to the Ally Pally before so I'm quite excited.

I've heard about the Bullseye Burner and the feedback varied; some people loved it and some people said it was overrated and that they hated it. And yeah, that happened to me at a rugby match once.

Mate I'm quite jealous to be honest! And even though I'm a Londoner now I'm quite unused to just going to major sports events that are less than 45 mins away from my flat...

And the main issue I had with the burger was the fact that it cost £2 more than a normal bacon burger. So you're effectively charging drunk men extra for their bravado. That would be fair enough if it were actually something special, but it most certainly isn't :/

I'm going to the Ally Pally all the way from Manchester. We don't really get major events up here, unless of course you consider gigs at the Manchester Academy & MEN Arena major. I've always got to travel to get to the good ones!

I've never ate at the darts and I've been a couple of times. I might try it when I go just for the f*ck of it.

I used to live way out west where the closest major events were probably an hour away so I truly feel your pain. Could never imagine moving back now though...

And the food there is actually pretty good. I've had Nachos there and a German sausage and they were both awesome (although that could've been the pitchers of cider talking). Last night's burger was the only true disappointment I've ever had there.

You lucky bastards! I'm not going to the Ally Pally this year but I am going to a Premier League match or two.

Anyway, the battle of the brothers was an interesting game. Ronny got to a good start but just seemed to drop off as the match went on. Devon Peterson knocked out Beaton so I guess we'll have to sit through his dancing again in Round two :p Some decent games on tonight too.

I wish them dickheads would f*ck off shouting 'wooo' when players are throwing. Dennis Smith is on now playing Lewis and the crowd are putting him off. It's mainly the non-darts fans that do this and it really is annoying.

I missed the last night and a half of the darts! The Huybrechts match was phenomenal. You can't help but feel sorry for them both having to play one another so soon after the Grand Slam. It can't be easy to knock your own brother out of the big one.

MvG wasn't playing his best but at least he won, that's all the matters! I missed the match but I saw a couple of highlights. Same goes with Wade's match, I just saw some highlights and I'm glad he got through but it was tight. I've been saying for a while Wade's not been playing his best. I missed Whitlock's game too! Barney dominated too, that was truly an entertaining match.

I'll be able to watch the darts tonight, just waiting on the sofa for it to come on now! Looking through some highlights for the matches I missed.

Phil Taylor knocked out of the World Championship by Michael Smith! Great night of darts last night, had me on the edge of my seat. Taylor played terrible.

Tracksuit Hitman

Finally got some time to chillax and watch the darts. Currently watching the MVG vs McDine match which is the first match I've been able to properly watch in the last few days. There's already been so many 180s this match and I can see [and hope] Michael van Gerwen getting a nine darter tonight.

OOOOHHHHHH MICHAEL VAN GERWEN!

  • 2 weeks later...
Tracksuit Hitman

The final of the World Championship was phenomenal. After a 6-0 win against Adrian Lewis for Michael van Gerwen he went on to lead 4-0 against Peter Wright in the final. I thought Peter Wright was going to make yet again another crushing comeback but MvG dominated as expected, although Peter Wright did get a few sets in the end.

I thought MvG was hilarious when he was taking the trophy victorously, he must have grabbed it at least fifteen times! He looked so excited that he didn't know what to do, absolutely beautiful!

I was shocked to hear that James Wade won't be in the Premier League this year. I was hoping that Ted Hankey would be one of the wildcards that people were talking about, but some more well known and more well liked players were picked such as Chizzy and Barney. I'm going to the Premier League so that should be fun!

Not a fan of Chizzy, he's always struck me as being as dumb as a bag of rocks and he has no personality either.

And in the terms of 'fun-factor' give me anyone over Wade from a fan's point of view. He just doesn't engage with the crowd at all. However I still would have him in because I always want the top 10 to contest the Premier League. That will obviously never happen because of Justin Pipe.

Now time for the BDO Championship to really get going before the Premier League!

It was an amazing World Championship. I think I managed to watch every single match haha I'm not a massive Premier League fan but I'm still looking forward to it. Been watching a bit of the BDO but let's face it, nothing compared to the PDC.

Good on van Gerwen for winning his first World Championship and I'm certain it won't be his last.

I don't know what it is about Chizzy but ever since I first saw him play I've disliked him.

I don't mind Wade and I'd actually label myself as a fan of him. He may not engage with the crowd and may seem a bit boring, but all in all I've got respect for him because of what he deals with and so forth. He's not exactly a bad player, either. Saying that though, he's not been playing his best for a while; in both the Grand Slam and World Championship.

I've been flicking over to watch certain matches of the BDO although I don't find it as entertaining as the PDC. It's worth a watch but I have to be in the mood for it, whereas I'm almost instantly pulled in when the PDC tournaments/championships are on.

As always, MvG is my favourite to win the Premier League. I'm guessing he'll be the favourite to win in general after winning the World Championship. Although I dislike Taylor, it'll be cool to see how he comes back after his early knock out in the World Champs.

EDIT: I was watching the Scott Waites match the other day and I was shocked to find out that he's been knocked out of the BDO World Championship already. I've always been fond of Scotty and I honestly thought he'd have a fighting chance at winning the BDO World's this year.

The problem I always find with the BDO is that there's a touch of 'after the Lord Mayor's show' about it. It's tough to watch players struggling to hit doubles and averaging 80 when you've just seen MvG, Lewis, Whitlock and Wright having stormers in the semi's of the other tournament. It normally gets better at about the 1/4 final stage; but I completely agree that it's like watching League One after watching the Premier League for the most part -- as only about 5 players in the BDO could really compete in the PDC.

I agree that Wade is a great player, but I think a year or two away will probably do him good. Get him playing more relaxed darts -- I can't believe he's never averaged over 100 in a WC match...

And your thing about the PDC being more engaging is probably a function of both greater exposure and greater quality.

Bristow is scathing about Waites on Twitter, basically saying that he's wasting his talent by not going fully professional. For the defending champ to get blown away 3-0 in the 1st round is just rubbish. Led to quite a funny spat between Bobby George and Bristow actually on Twitter aha

I'll edit the OP in a bit! Screw being outdated.

I certainly hope so. Hopefully Wade will be on top form after his break; it'd be a shame if he comes back and plays like he did in the Grand Slam and the World's.

I agree that Waites should go fully professional. He's got the talent for it, undoubtedly. Did you see his performance when he got battered? It was hard to watch because it was so terrible. I'll have to have a look on Twitter!

Edited by geobst

Edit the OP soon! We need like a tournament schedule up in this thread so that we can keep rolling on through the year without becoming hyperfocused on the Worlds...

And yeah the Waites game was appalling. Thought Norris played well (93+ average for the 1st round is bloody good, especially in the BDO. And his doubling was pretty good too) but Waites -- as a former World Champion -- should've been much more disappointed in his performance than he actually was...

I've updated the OP! Woo!

I've just put the BDO World Championship schedule up there now. I'll update it with the Premier League schedule once the Premier League is starting, or when the BDO World's is over. Obviously I'll do the same with other future professional [televised] championships/tournaments.

Norris did play extremely well when compared to some of the performances we've seen in the BDO but Waites clearly wasn't playing at his best. Waites would have had a fighting chance at defending his title if he had his head in the right place, but he clearly didn't have it there.

So Tony O'Shea's my favourite to win now. I've always been a fan of Tony O'Shea and enjoyed watching his performance at the Grand Slam last year. I don't know who I want to win the women's, but I guess that's because I haven't seen much of the female players. I guess I'll root for Lisa Ashton, although I haven't been following any of the women in particular. I guess once I've seen more of the women I'll be able to pick a favourite.

Tracksuit Hitman

O'Shea is out too... Adams absolutely pounded him. Don't think he even won a leg...

Really?! I must have missed it; might have to have a look if there's any highlights online.

Well, damn. I wouldn't have expected that from O'Shea. So O'Shea and the defending champion Waites got spanked? It's a shame, a real shame. I'm not really fond of Adams but I'll be sure to keep my eye on him to see if he's consistent.

  • 3 weeks later...

I didn't see this thread but I'm a big fan of professional darts but catching it on television here is a real hit-and-miss situation because it's often preempted by other "popular" sports. Unfortunately the streaming website that I used to watch matches on was taken down recently (vipboxonline.eu). Anybody know a website that streams live or recorded events?

Rooting for The Machine always ! :)

Edited by RAS_ZeroZ

Ahhh, I found their website. They changed their TLD (probably forced to by content owners or something).. they're live at http://www.vipboxam.co/ . The Darts link is at the bottom. I don't recommend visiting that site unless you have adblocker/DNT/noscript running.

  • 5 months later...

I love the Matchplay. The Winter Gardens is a brilliant venue, unfortunately I've never been but I'm aiming to go next year.

So yeah I'll definitely be watching this week, going to be interesting to see how Taylor plays because he really has been out of form the last few months. He always finds a way to play well in Blackpool though.
