Will we see a next gen version?

Since they've already stated that they'll continue upgrading and developing GTAO "for years to come" that means that of course they have to port it over to PS4/XboxOne.

Why does it mean that?

Games are still released for the PS2. Development and support for the PS3 didn't stop the moment the new gen was released. They have no obligation to provide for the new platforms, it's just more of an obstacle to getting a new game out.

No comment on M$ shafting the OG Xbox users by stopping support dead when the 360 came out.

Well, how many users do you think will keep their previous-gen stuff out next to the TV for years and years? If we talk about a gamer that doesn't horde and save everything, day by day more games and content will pile up on the next-gen system and you know that old piece of hardware will start to look like it's just wasting space.

I don't believe that they want GTAV (and more importantly GTAO) to just fade away with the "old" consoles.

Making a PC and next-gen versions hand in hand would be awesome.

But maybe I'm just too hopeful to see V in 1080p @ 60fps...

After the mixed reception V and Online have had, I wouldn't be surprised if they said 'f*ck it' and abandoned GTA completely. So much work, so little recognition for their achievements. The GTA fan base is horrible.

They would be much better off working on a new IP for a few years, then returning with a GTA after that. Though I'm sure they've started work on the next one already.

Long live III...The Last GTA Offline in the main series.

Rockstar basically have said f**k it to the GTA series. Look at what they created. They are practically poking the finger in our faces with this game.

Yeah, they've spent $250,000,000 as an elaborate 'f*ck you' to the people that pay their bills.

STUPID LOGIC IS STUPID.

It is!

This is not the game that they said they had made! Rockstar clearly explained tha they had better gotten used to the hardware and yet this million dollar game is still worth about as much as GTA IV. L

Either they lied about the hardware and the next gen is gonna be worse or th lied about the complete game and it's all just a ruse to get more money out of it

How many users gamers do you think can early-adopt at the drop of a new console?

I have a very well paid job, I make mad cheddar. Still can't afford to drop money on a PS4 just yet. And I have over a thousand pounds worth of games for my 360 and PS3. I'm not just going to abandon them, not for at least a couple of years yet. There's still some upcoming releases that will make people stick with the old-gen for a while yet.

I'm also highly intrigued to see what else can be done with the PS3 - if GTA V is an indication, we may still get a few great releases. And lets face it, GTA V could have been better, were it not for the restrictions of the Xbox.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

1080p @ 60fps is PS3

Games for the PS2 have stopped production only this year

I can't really for sure say if the old console will be marked as wasting space since every single current gen game this late November and December have been released on next gen. In my eyes you could have 8 games sitting on your new Xbox or PS had you purchased everything. You're also gonna get digital games aswell as I've seen with Assassin's Creed. I don't think we are going to see next gen V next year, it will probably mix into June or something like that, however I would keep what you have just in case Rockstar stuffs it up again

If R* will release a next gen version of GTAV, they will probably release it at the end of 2014 as a ''Complete Edition'' with all the DLC released.

You don't think that R* will want to cash on GTA V again? Of course they will. Even if they don't port the base game you can be 100% sure that in a year or two that they will port GTA:O over to the next-gen.

They're gonna have to because GTA Online was supposed to be made for all consoles since V

Official General

Wouldn't it be better for them to get on with making a new game for the next gen? Rather than recycling an old game that millions have already paid for and played?

This I agree with :^:

They are better off just concentrating their efforts and resources on a next-gen GTA title right now, and making sure they do everything to make it in the best way possible. They have got all this advanced brand new technology at their disposal, they need to start getting used to it.

Any more work on GTA V should be about adding more to the SP mode in the form of episodic content, extra features and more in DLC. Rockstar need to do that before they even think about a next-gen version for this game.

Absolutely. They need to make sure they don't end up in the same position as they're in now (divided the fans, created all hell on forums), and the only way to do that is with a new game. Whether that be a new GTA or a new IP, I'm not sure.

Signatures are dumb anyway.

Possibly because it is a chance to fix up whatever mistakes they have made in the game and sell it to the next gen to gain a couple of extra billion, make a couple of DLCs to leave the fan base happy and make the new game on next gen better? They better otherwise Rockstar gon have 2 billion hulks to deal with

I dont see any mixed reception to GTA V, this forum does not represent the whole GTA fanbase, here are either mostly GTA SA fanboys who cant let go of the past no matter what and probably never will or retarded kids trolls who joined after the game was released just so it can cause more havok like they do with every popular game out there .

Technically the PS4 does not need a GTA V NG version because it'd be playable through Gaikai once it is released. Gaikai can play PS1/PS2/PS3 games which means only the XB 1 is missing out, but considering the amount of sales Rockstar got for this game and the fact that there is still a PC version to be released. I really doubt that they'd bother with a XB1 version.

_FRANKENSTEIN_

Were I to guess? February. Based solely on similar releases in the past: they'll wait until the holiday season is over and past the return dates.

Yeah 29th February.

Oops that's in 2016 :D

i don't think so,lots of the money made from GTA V is already probably gonna to be used for GTA VI, and some of the cash for DLC.I feel like they have different parts of rockstar working on different things.

Well one of the main guys at Rockstar said he was very happy with the sales on next gen so I could easily see them making a next gen version of GTA 5, especially since the game would flourish on next gen with all the extra power and memory

I've read quite a few posts both here and on neogaf saying that R* making a next gen version of GTA V is more a matter of when rather than if. What do you guys think? Will we see a next gen version on PS4 and Xbox One? If so, when do you think it will be released? If you don't think R* will invest the resources into porting to next gen, then I hope you're wrong.T

They're making it, it's obvious. Since ps4 is so similar to pc in terms of hardware, it would be just plain stupid not to make a pc version since it's basically a direct port from ps4 to pc, or better yet, make a pc version and port it to consoles, for ps4 it's gonna be a breeze, for box one, way harder, in any case, u make a master race platform worthy product, then u downgrade it to consoles specifications or is it the other way around? probably not, nobody is that stupid. Games are made on TEH PC RITE

Hopefully GTA V on PC won't be a bad port from the consoles like it was for GTA IV. Since the game will have to be converted over to the new consoles will that have the same effect when games get ported to the PC?

Well, if they do decide to do this, they will clearly do it for the PC version first, and then port it to the PS4/X1 considering they are very very similar in terms of hardware and architecture, it would be lightning fast easy to port.

But personally, I would rather wait for a new GTA game. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I haven't touched V in two weeks. It's as if they missed some key ingredients and the food tastes too plain to me.

I never said that I hated the game for how it is. It is only my minor disappointment in Rocksta. Frankly, I don't care much at all about the topic as I'm stuck with AC4

Well, they definitly wont announce or tease next-gen or PC before Christmas, because that would hurt PS3 and Xbox 360 sales.

So my guess is May 24th. YUP COME AT ME 24-05 ALL OVER AGAIN.

Next-gen and PC version would benefit a lot to Rockstar. I think that the compagnies like Microsoft and Sony could see it like a system seller when the hype will go down (for PS4 and X1).

Maybe Rockstar could try to release it just before Watch Dogs to hurt Ubisoft sales.

Either way their still money to be made with GTA 5, so I think they are going to announce something next year.

I said this plenty of times but since this is a new thread I'll drop my 2 cents here too.

It seems that the PC version won't be another lousy port like IV was, which means the game will possibly be the same but will have other technical capabilities not possible in an API like the one from current gen consoles, which makes sense in many ways. Max Payne 3 was a huge technical success for being developed side by side for each of the platforms in all platforms, so the reasonable thing to do is keep that formula. Even V used the same formula as Max Payne 3 for current gen consoles, there was a version for XB and a version for PS and not like IV that was originally created to a console then ported to another and then ported to PC ... huge mess and not taking advantage of the full capabilities of each system.

Also not only for a matter of logic but for a matter of facts, the leaked logs within the game files point towards that direction, which also makes sense, I mean if Rockstar could make a development like Max Payne 3 and have a game able to run in most systems and without so many issues and if with that version they can easily port it for the new consoles and have other 3 million+ platforms to sell for , why not? They aren't dumb I believe, WD is in development for 5 years and it came for current and next gen platforms, same goes for ACIV, they did that because they knew it would be the wisest thing to do, Rockstar isn't dumb to miss a chance like this.

Now when will it come? I would aim to Spring 2014 taking into account their thinking and their claims about the window of opportunity, but there will be though competition so I think not even them know when it will be released, and it can also be first released for NG consoles and then PC, or PC and later NG or both at same time. This is all new, never happened before so it's hard to tell.

But one thing I know for sure, Rockstar isn't expecting that people that moved to new gen, keep a huge interest in GTAO with all the issues and level of experience it gives right now, so they'll have to give them another choice and a choice that actually makes it possible to develop the Online experience to what they've been promising since the beginning and that this generation is blocking.

But thats what I think it's logic, but Rockstar could think otherwise and still expecting GTAO to become an online HIT, but thats very doubtful.

Cicero The Great

V for PC ? Yes

Next-gen consoles ? Maybe, but probably they have other plains in that direction, rdr 2, or a vice city spin-off in the next years

A good story DLC for xbox360 and ps3 would probably sells more than a next-gen version of V in this moment, something like ballad of gay tony

Something unique that could add even a lot of things removed at the last minute - or purposely

You're misreading those "news", what they say:

“Of course we’re interested. But no, not in terms of GTA, because we’re always working on the current game. We look at the tech at a more practical level: what will be ready for which game that we’re working on further down the line. We don’t have another GTA in development, we don’t work on three of these games at a time. That would be phenomenally depressing.

What he means is that he isn't developing a new game aiming to Next Gen consoles, but he doesn't mention a port, in fact there is something very subtle here.

Notice how he say "we don't work in 3 of these games at a time", if he was talking about Next Gen consoles shouldn't that be 4 games at a time? I mean he couldn't be saying the XBOX360, PS3 and PS4 version, also he couldn't mean a third version for both consoles because they aren't exactly the same, so what did he exactly mean? (Current Gen, PC and Next Gen - According to their logs, PC and NG are two different categories (possibly because PC includes DX9-DX11)?)

Anyway he says they don't have plans for a NEW title for those consoles, but he doesn't mean the current one can't and won't get ported, also these news are from September, Rockstar is always changing their claims.

Rockstar never ported III, Vice City, or San Andreas to the PS3 and Xbox 360. And GTA I, II, and London weren't ported to the PS2 either.

The GTA games always stayed on the platforms of that generation. I still believe Rockstar will hold this tradition of theirs just like they do to delaying the announcement and release of a PC version.
