How to make the Minigun useful

Add auto-aim on minigun like the rest of automatic weapons.Right now it has no meaning to use it even against a helicopter unless you play free aim.Its unlocked at Rank 120 it should be a beast card to play on a gun fight.You even get your bullets to 0 if you die holding it.

Has to be done through single player menu. Settings - Controls - Assisted Aim/Free Aim/TraditionalGTA

Combat machine gun takes out every driver real quick.. Unless they're using a entity.

Combat roll+cover are your friends. i tried free aim for a week when i said f*ck this is bullsh*t i was being chased in the airport by 2 cars they put sticky in my car but i got out of time then they were trying to ram me over they didnt even shoot i was like in the middle of the ocean with sharks around helpless

Once you learn how its not all that difficult to avoid people trying to make you roadkill, especially if you have an assault shotgun. Obviously you're not going to be successful every time, but its very easy to take out a driver and a passenger of an oncoming vehicle with one. If you don't kill them use a combat roll at the last second and they'll miss, and if you're up against a wall you instantly have a distinct advantage against them and should be able to take them out right away.

 

"Getting owned" in free aim equates to needing practice. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's only useless right now due to the fact that the ammo resets every time you die. I don't even waste my $$$ on ammo anymore as I'm scared I'll just lose all of it anyways.

When did you say anything about tanks? You were talking about cars trying to run you over (which I told you how to handle after some practice) being impossible to avoid and getting owned in gang attacks, and now you're bringing tanks into the picture. Make up your damn mind. I thought being on foot against someone in a car was a one-sided fight that couldn't be won for a long time until I learned how to handle it and that they're at a disadvantage because of their limited selection of non-heavy weapons.

When did you say anything about tanks? You were talking about cars trying to run you over (which I told you how to handle after some practice) being impossible to avoid and getting owned in gang attacks, and now you're bringing tanks into the picture. Make up your damn mind.

im saying that cars in free aim lobbies bring an unfair advantage over your opponent like tanks do.1 car trying to ram you is avoidable but more than 1 its not

No. Minigun doesn't need autoaim, it is a weapon of mass destruction when used properly.

 

Bringing a minigun to a firefight in AA is stupid because while it might be more of less a 1-hit kill weapon, it's range is not much better than the MGs so the machine gun would be able to pick off a minigun wielder rather easily from cover.

 

The minigun is more of a tactical weapon. Really useful against vehicles.

 

You can take down charging cars with it due to its range, as well as helis and especially tanks. The minigun is a beast against tanks but weirdly enough does not seem to get enough credit for it.

 

Most people bang on about how you can kill a tank in a few minutes by escaping to grab a jet/ climb on a far-away roof to snipe them out/ call a mugger and praying that the tank isn't paying attention to his close surrounding...when really the minigun can take down a tank in approximately a minute or 2 from respawn in the best case scenario. Maybe a few more if the tank is trying to get you too relentlessly.

 

Just climb on the most nearby roof that offer a little cover, go off the radar and spank that tank's ass. Very quickly the tank is going to fume and at this point will either run away or try to get you. Make use of obstacles to work as your cover while you're wielding the minigun and the guy is toast.

 

Minigun is sh*t against onfoot players, but eats all and every vehicle for breakfast. I think it's rather nicely balanced.

I have tested the minigun on a tank just after 1.07 to see if anything changed and it took me 900 bullets to get the tank to explode. I probably could have used 50 less bullets if I didn't spaz for a moment.

 

You got to hit the generator man. I have killed 4 tanks with the minigun and it went pretty darn fast. The majority tend to leave after their engine started fuming.

 

That's how it goes : respawn -> passive -> find nearby building that has a roof with something to hide behind (since you can't take cover with the minigun) -> go off the radar soon as you starting to climb -> get your minigun out and spank the generator.

 

I think the ammo drop has been kinda fixed. I was killed by a player a couple of times when carrying the minigun and didn't lose any ammo. But then later on got killed by cops and lost everything... so I have to admit I don't know what is going on there exactly. But yes, the potential loss of ammo is a big deterrent. However that is just a bug and doesn't mean that it isn't an effective method just because of that. Fixing the ammo loss bug will definitely help feeling more comfortable doing it though, I can understand that.

 

Obviously if the tank is focused entirely on you, then it gets a bit harder to kill the tank since he'll be waiting for you to pop out of cover with his cannon aimed straight at you.

 

But most of the time, they get distracted by other things like killing other players, taking down helis, checking their maps every 15 seconds to see where players are going to respawn. I killed one today from the roof of Simeon's garage.

 

I had to retreat to cover a few times when he went to focus on me, but it's pretty damn good once you get the hang of it. Keep your eyes on the tank and which direction the cannon is facing, tanks aren't that hard to read once you get used to them.

6 seconds of drilling gets them smoking brown, another 6-8 seconds gets the flames just before it blows up .

 

Same as sniping them or using the jet, it is going to take a bit of practice first but it is truly efficient when used properly.

i prefer sniping tanks with heli from high rooftops so i dont have to worry about police or mercenaries.900 bullets seem directly to the engine and thats an ideal situation.Do you play free aim or auto aim?

And I'm saying that its not nearly as uneven as you seem to think. You said yourself you only tried free aim for a week. I've played nothing but, and I'm telling you an assault shotgun will make mincemeat out of a driver and passenger in a split second. Switch AS for heavy MG/combat MG for medium/long range. Off the top of my head I can only think of a handful of times in the 7 or so weeks I've been playing GTA:O where I've had more than one person trying to run me down at the same time, and it just made them easier targets from bumping into each other. Obviously this isn't always the case like when you're in a vulnerable location, but combined with cover and firing at opportune moments (and using blindfire) you're far from outmatched when on foot in free aim.

 

Free aim goes both ways. You need to consider that while on foot not only are you a more small and more mobile target, but its also much easier for you to aim than it is for the people in the vehicle.

i only see it as a more precise and easy anti-chopper weapon. RPGs are too easy to dodge, Grenade launchers are better but need to be closer, sniper rifles are difficult but doable and would be the best method for shooting someone who isn't targeting you at the time. That just leaves minigun or one of the MGs assuming they're at decent range.

Are you being serious? Auto-aim on a mini gun? That thing spits bullets all day, why in the f*ck would you need an auto lock? You do realize that you can free aim in auto aim, have you ever gotten into a gunfight with someone who was out of range? My god.

I play auto-aim.

 

Yes, in the ideal situation the tank will have its engine the majority of the battle. But a lot of tank PKs don't seem to care that much about that (or maybe don't even know) and are all about explosions, even if they are in their faces. So taking a tank down with the minigun from a roof within 10 minutes is very doable still.

Smart tanks will try to trick you out of cover, and for that it might take a little longer to kill them. Generally they are the guys that leave you alone once they noticed the hail of bullets spanking their backside...or try to trick you out of cover when they are still aiming at you. That's why striking them while still being under the radar gives you the edge, you can easily get them smoking before they notice where it is coming from. The rest is a game of cat and mouse.

 

I might be a bit biased towards the minigun though, I can admit that, it's just that I really like using it haha. But I promise you man, give it a few shots, you will see what I mean. Most tanks are so stupid and leave themselves open half the time because they think being in a tank grants them the ability to ignore incoming damage. Even wait for the minigun ammo fix to be patched if it the risk turns you off.

 

There are no real risk-proof methods of taking down a tank (apart from the mugger, if he manages to pull it off instead of getting run over or blown up). The minigun is just the same, and when executed right, it is a beast.

Dying and losing 10k rounds of mini gun ammo is ridiculous you don't buy it in 15k increments you can buy it in 100 round batches for $150 if you die with the mini gun you should lose 100 rounds not 9999

If I have any friends in the server and someone is being a real dick with a tank I go with the 'buddy system' with the mugger, which involves one of us going in passive and basically taunting the driver and getting him distracted enough while the other watches from a distance with a sniper rifle ready and phone out - once it looks like the driver has tunnel vision and the tank is in a position where the mugger can do a quick grab and drive away we'll make the call and pick off the driver. Unfortunately (and predictably) in true griefer style the pussies usually leave right away. :yawn:

Yeah that is one annoying bug. I was killed by 2 players and kept the ammo and later on got killed by cops and I lost everything. That is with 1.07. Might have been just lucky though.

 

But even if I'm right, the ammo bug still hasn't been fixed properly. Why is it taking so long ?

 

On the subject of bugged ammo, has anyone tried dying with the grenade launcher recently ? Wondering if that has been fixed yet.

Back on topic real quick - the only thing that needs to be done to the minigun is make it so you lose little or no ammo when dying and make it a little less accurate and long ranges. I don't play auto-aim, but I can't imagine how overpowered it would be if it locked on. What I can tell you is it wouldn't be used against tanks and helicopters primarily, and it would likely become one the most-used PVP weapons for the high level players, if not #1. Losing all your ammo wouldn't be an issue if you could kill everyone in your path instantly even at incredible ranges. Considering what level you need to buy one the balance problems in free roam would be apparent right away.

 

In my experiences its the least-used weapon in GTA:O free roam, but considering how powerful it is right now I don't really consider that a bad thing. Maybe they haven't changed the losing all the ammo thing yet because they're still trying to figure out how to make it more balanced for PVP.
