North Yankton(my opinion)

Since playing the first mission, I absolutely fell in love with the town if Ludendorff. I love the kind of sleepy abandoned feel that the town has and the snowy weather is also a favourite of mine.I was a little disappointed when it became evident that I wasn't going to go back after the mission Bury The Hatchet, as it seemed like a lot of effort for Rockstar to go to just for two missions.

I have looked at various pieces of evidence and analysed some pieces of information and formed my own idea about what will happen with North Yankton in the future.

I am fairly sure that at some point in the future, we will be able to go to the town in GTA Online without having to do the glitch. I have many reasons to believe this. The first is the sheer amount of detail that Rockstar put into the town. There is a lot of Ludendorff that you don't see in any of the missions, and you can't go to it during missions because you fail the mission if you try to explore. I have done the glitch a few times and spent many hours exploring. I've visited farms that have barns with full interiors, complete with furniture and farm implements. There are many streets and highly detailed shops if you go into the town slightly. There really is a great deal more than you see in the missions.

My second reason is the shops. In Ludendorff there are two convenience stores similar to those in Los Santos and an Ammunation. What would be the point of putting these shops in the town if we couldn't visit them or see them in the missions?

Another reason is the size. Ludendorff is not a small area, from one end to the takes about the same time as crossing from one side of the Los Santos city to the other. If you only drive down the one or two roads in the missions, why include the rest of the town and surrounding countryside? I think Rockstar are building the foundations for the town to be used more in future.

Now comes the ideas I'm not so sure of. How would we get to North Yankton? What I expect will happen, is that we have to go to airport, and walk into a marker. Then, after a loading screen, we appear in North Yankton.I would like this option, but I would also like the option of flying there yourself, like Trevor does in Bury The Hatchet. We could have to fly north and then have a loading screen, or fly North for around 5 minutes and then see the snowy hills open out in front of us.I would love for North Yankton to be included in the game. It could bring additional vehicles and activities such as snowmobiles and skiing. It would bring new cars such as the snowy police cars and the snowy Rancher. It would also bring a whole set of new clothes for the wintery environment.

Imagine having gun battles in the snowy town and snowmobile races through the fields. There would be a whole load of new missions too to go with it.I really want to see this happen, and I think it will, but it may take some time to implement it perfectly.

Great post and I agree with your sentiments, they are very well thought out.

I would love to see it added as DLC. I think it will be eventually. The most telling sign that it will be added in my opinion, is the fact that it actually has a location within the game world. It could be coincidence, and I know it's a glitch that makes it happen, but the fact that it shows up in the regular LS/Blaine County game area with it's own location you can fly to, makes me think that the designers had already set up that location for the future location.

Like I said, it might be coincidence but to me it feels like too much of one to actually be one. If that makes sense. The only question is when (guessing many months) and how much (guessing it'll be a DLC we'll have to pay for, like an actual expansion pack).

Yeah from everything i have seen it seems far too detailed to just be used for two missions in SP, so i agree that at some point it just seems too perfect a set up NOT to expand the play area by fully fleshing it out.

Only a matter of time before cash cards were mentioned. You could start a thread about ANYTHING, and within a few posts someone will be whining about cash cards. They exist. Micro-transactions are a thing now. Get used to it, or stop gaming. Yawn.

i don't even see how they're "milking the hell out of cash cards" either. people are always going to complain. if they didn't give you the cash card option, people would complain that they don't exist.

here's how they could be milking cash cards. they could add advertising on in game billboards, in game television, on the radio, in npc background chat, as every second loading screen ad, as a reminder text to your phone.

they aren't milking it at all.

North Yankton DLC is never going to happen, I fear.

They've been milking the hell out of Cash Cards, why not?

Simply because the area is too small and was clearly designed/scripted to work only for the prologue. Sure they could build on it, but to what purpose ?

They have already built a vibrant world called San Andreas where they want you to spend all your time.

I am not saying it is technically impossible, it is. But realistically, their focus is Los Santos. Nothing else. And even if they ever considered adding new zones to the game, it probably will be years before they even attempt doing something like that.

No reason that they couldn't use it as DM location etc though surely mate?

I haven't been there yet in MP. Once you're there, can you simply fly back to LS? Can you go back and forth between the two? If so, where is it located on the map?

Like I said, nothing is stopping them from doing anything they might want to do. I was just speculating as to what their current and long-term goals might be.

With all the glitching/hacking and Heist DLC still on the waiting list, they have plenty on their hands already. As of right now, making North Yankton functional in MP seems like the last thing on their to-do list.

How am I talking out of my ass ? New locations doesn't have to mean North Yankton, or even anything outside of San Andreas. It could be anything. Properties, new districts, etc..

Don't get snappy just because someone politely disagrees with your point of view.

North Yankton could possibly be released as DLC however they would have to create an entire new map to do it. The little area we got from the intro isn't going to work obviously since its too small and areas are unfinished but the small area could be worked into an entire city which could then be expanded to have new races, deathmatches, car and story content.

That is what they said in august, and look how things are in game right now.

Having ambitions is great but pulling them off is another. The game is still riddled with launch/basic issues and the "first" proper DLC has yet to arrive.

Like I said several times, it isn't impossible but considering how things are going at the moment it probably will be a long time before they even attempt considering that. Even The Benz said :

"Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before, so it isn't a spoiler - is (the ambition) to grow this world until it's the world

I applaud Rockstar for trying to make one of the most advanced MP experience for the old-gen, I really do. But that doesn't mean they are going to succeed at everything they hope to achieve.

You want to be overly optimistic ? That's perfectly fine, it's your choice. I'd rather be cautious with mine.

GTA O was made for the next-gen.

It's current state is so broken and unfinished due to console limitations.

That's a straw man argument. GTAO pushed the boundaries of what is capable on the old-gen, many games in the last few years have been trying to push the hardware as far as it allowed them.

Yes GTAO would be benefit from being run on next-gen obviously, it would probably make a lot of things possible then.

However that doesn't mean it was developed with next-gen in mind specifically. GTAV has been in development for over 5 years, I seriously doubt the specs of a potential new console crossed the developers mind for quite some times. Hell, even developers that are just starting their project are unsure about how to approach the new console and certainly do not know how to tap into the new hardware's potential yet.

Look at the current new-gen games. It's pretty hard to tell them apart from the old titles. They might look better and run better, but gameplay wise ? It's still exactly the same thing. Will take a couple of years at least for the new-gen to deliver the next brand of gaming.

Do you really think every single person who bought GTA on the old gen is going to buy a new console the second GTAV hits the shelves again ? It will take a good year for most gamers to make the jump because the first year of a new gen always suck.

No I'm afraid GTAO is going to be on 360/PS3 for quite some time to come.

What I find amusing is the linear way of thinking a lot of people have about dlc. Like a developer doesn't think about, plan out, or even develope dlc well before it (or even the main game) is released to the public. With a six year developement cycle it's likely they created much more for gta 5 and gtao than what is currently seen. As a matter of fact, I find it far more unlikely that they didn't develope a lot of dlc during developement of the main game.

Point being, I don't think R* is having many meetings about what they may or may not do for dlc. I think they mostly already knew and developed a lot of what is to come as dlc a long time ago. So North Yankton has either likely already been thought out and developed or it hasn't and maybe never will.

They did say they planned on adding new areas; and a previous poster was correct in saying that this statement can be interpretted to mean other things than expansion area dlc. Los Santos itself holds a lot of potential for growth itself without adding a new city or large-ish land mass. They could add an "under city" to Los Santos made up of sewers and add all sorts of new characters, plots, activities, what have you. Insides of mountains. Caves. Let's not forget the vast ocean mass that is so under-used and mostly a waste of space.

In other words, the options R* has for add-on content as far as new areas is vast even without the necessity of adding areas outside of what exists. Personally, I hope they have developed more for the current area before any expansion happens because it has always felt to me that a lot of areas of this world they built are sorely under-utilized.
