KingKock
gta 6 Best Storyline of all time - God As much as I like V and it's world.... IV took the medal, Niko's character was well written (V's characters were well written too, but were lacking...) I loved the story to IV, but IV's world/environments weren't as good as V (in my opinion) When it all boils down to it, I love both games evenly.... Tacymist
GTA V had a strong start, but I prefer IV's story overall. However I found GTA V's missions more fun. Ciaran, Geralt of Rivia and KingKock

killahmatic
IV's story was a little more realistic and believable to some extent. V's story felt like it was too big to fit into 69 missions so seemed to leave things out or advance things too fast. I've always said IV was a good game. I enjoyed it, but to be completely honest IV's story had me kind of bored long before the story was over. It got to the point where I didn't even care about the cutscenes, I just wanted to finish missions to see what, if any, cool stuff I would get. While V's was definitely a little out there and over the top (sometimes reminiscent of VC or SA), it kept me interested to the end, and that's something I can't say about IV. FutoDriver
IV is superior no doubt. You can not however compare IV's story to any other GTA in existance because it's on a completely different path (realism). It's backstory is tangled in real life past events and the aftermath of said horrific events. I'm guessing it's an age thing when I seen people complain about Niko being 'whiny' and not understanding why he's cynical about all mankind. Every other GTA is some Hollywood movie/TV inspired trope story in comparison. Edited January 6, 2014 by FutoDriver

Tehguy123
I liked GTA 4 because the antagonists were really bad. When you killed the antagonists you actually felt something. Whereas in GTA V, you kill this Wei Shen and Stretch dude, who you didn't even realise existed. Niobium

1DrfL
IV had a better story. I prefer V as a game for all kinds of other reasons, more fun, variety, better gameplay, map, missions, online etc. The story isn't as weak or poor as some are making out, but I was def more engaged and engrossed in Nicos storyline and Dimitri was a great antagonist who I genuinely wanted to hunt down. I didn't feel that way about too many Vs antagonists, too safe and cosmopolitan. The main guys actually felt like the antagonists lol. I would say everything you have stated here, but about GTA V's story instead. That FIB and Merryweather section of the story really bored the life out of me, I hated doing jobs for them, it felt like half the game was about them. I did not care if Steve Haines died or not, and I did not dislike him - I just wanted not to see his face again or deal the with FIB anymore. The whole FIB saga was so uninteresting, and to my utter dismay, I became consigned to the fact that the other half of the game was gonna revolve around the feds. For real, I hope Rockstar don't ever make a cop/federal agent-orientated storyline like that again for any future GTA game. SA wasn't much better. Toreno had CJ running all over the desert doing sh*t for the government and he (CJ) was being hassled by C.R.A.S.H for the majority of the story. Maybe it's a west coast thing? I don't know. Either way I think SA's and GTA V's stories are both the weakest in the series because of it.

PkUnzipper
Which one is better? GTA V SP was a superficial, $60 tutorial and license key on how to play GTAO. Dr. Ray De Angelo Harris
I think IV´s story is superior. I love both games, but although V´s story isn´t bad, I like the game for other reasons than IV. I had a lot of great moments during IV´s storyline, moments I chuckled ("Roman...Roman! Are you sleeping, you fat f*ck!?"), moments I wanted to applaud Niko for his dry sense of humour ("For an annoying dick, you´re really....an annoying dick!") and moments I really felt for Niko (the scene with Michelle/Karen after the Snow Storm mission or as he tells about the dead children in the village during the war while sitting in Ilyena Faustin´s kitchen). The whole story was dark, gripping and captivating from the beginning to the end. I think only TLAD had a comparable haunting story. The storyline was so well made, I loved the game although I´m really not into this biker gang stuff. theGTAking101 and Official General
AustinN
Hmm. GTA IV's story felt more complete than V's did. While there's nothing I'm too disappointed about, multiple plot threads aren't developed properly and just kind of trail off. But at the same time, V's story had more humor, and more heartwarming moments. IV's story was more well written, but V seemed like it went for a wider range of emotions compared to IV's doom and gloom.

godforgivesthelostdont
IV had a better story. But V's story was better paced and had better methods of storytelling. IV could've been a movie where the gameplay was mostly just irrelevant assassination missions. theGTAking101

I'm not really into the biker gang stuff, but the story in TLAD was very good. It was dark, filled with intrigue and explosive gangster action. Even though I liked TBOGT better, TLAD story was very engaging. PkUnzipper

Canoxa
In GTA IV, the narrative drove the gamplay, to some extent, whereas in V, the gameplay drives the narrative. As such, it's not surprising that IV's story rings as better.
am30
The story in IV had you really care about Niko and him finding who he was looking for. I think that is also to do with you only playing as one character and the gameplay/missions are more intense.
