IV. No contest. It certainly was better written.

This.

The entire struggle Niko goes through alone felt much more epic compared to the extremely lame heists that netted you $0.

I preferred GTA IV's story line. There are too many missions that are heists, maybe if they put a few more missions in, it wouldn't be that boring. But yeah. GTA IV was so much better for the story.

Really you are asking this question ?? GTA IV's story sh*ts all over GTA V's story.

IV easily wins. Like someone on here said earlier, it was better structured, and it was much more interesting, intriguing, and gripping too. Niko's personal struggles, revenge on Dimitri, dealings and conflict with all kinds of mafias, mobs and gangs, epic stuff.

V's story started off well, until the second half was about 'do this' and 'do that' for the cops and federal agents, and most of the heists were not for our personal gain. I was not really impressed by that.

GTA IV, I went back to play the game twice (each time I finished the game) just to repeat the story

The story is just perfect

Officer Ronson

IV's story was prettey good, but I liked V's better. It was something new from the ''Do this and do that'' for Mobsters, and half of the game wasn't really doing Jobs for the Feds like people say (8 Missions involve the feds).

I´m more of a free-roam wacko but story wise IV is better. Gotta take a re-run before Xmas.

I don't know what game you guys played. I thought GTA V was brilliantly written. We've never played a character like Michael De Santa. The complexities of a man struggling between being a family man and leaving behind a larcenous lifestyle. He's already been through the situations that past GTA character's went through and he got out alive so we get to almost see what happens after you leave that all behind. I thought it was great. You were even given the traditional GTA character of a gangster in Franklin. And then Trevor is just...well....Trevor lol. To answer the original question, GTA V all the way.

I really liked the mcrearie brothers. And the part where dimitri's men killed roman affected me so much that I had to restart the game for them to kill mallorie instead. IV had great story. But crap map.

Pretty equal for me.

I like IV's gritty realism, and how in-depth we get with Niko. I also liked the whole Eastern-European-immigrant-former-soldier angle.

With V we get a very welcome fresher taste. We've got a family man who's already made it, and a psychopathic country-type fella - two protags like nothing we've had before. Then R* expanded into the government corruption side of criminal enterprise - something else that hadn't been touched on before, and gave us a new interesting insight into crime.

But V's story wins it hands down in terms of how fun it was to play through. And for me, fun is the most important factor, which is why V is the better game overall.

IV was so dark and gritty, Niko was an extremely well written character. I loved the story. V feels like f*ckin cheap ass cartoon. Only cool character from V is Lester and Trevor

GTA IV had a slightly better storyline (unlike most people, I still really liked the storyline in GTA V), but that storyline is the reason that many of the missions were not interesting. While the storyline in GTA V is not as great (it's still great), nearly all the missions are memorable and interesting, the problem is that no one nowadays can appreciate something like that since so many people only play games for the story.

Definitely IV.

V's story is something a 12-year-old would probably enjoy.

Actually come to think of it, my little sister has been watching my second playthrough of V and even she thought IV's story was better.

IV by far. V's story was a half assed attempt at a story. All the characters are two dimensional, even the protags.

IV but with that being said the Storyline In V Is not Nearly as bad as what some people make it out to be i found the FIB part of the Storyline to be quite Interesting <why people whine about that all the time i will never know but it is also Very Gimmicky i prefer The more Serious tone In IV with Comedy Elements with V it seems to be the other way round and + IV has the Episodes which Improved the Storyline In IV.

IV Storyline - 9/10

V Storyline - 7/10 .

GTA IV's missions aren't that bad. They suit the dark and gritty nature of the game. Niko's a hired gun and the missions reflect that. Some people like it, some people don't I guess.

As for the stories I don't find GTA V's to be bad, but the revolving door of forgettable characters don't make it very memorable.

The start is the best part of the story IMO. It all goes south when they become the errand boys to the FIB.

GTA IV's is leaps and bounds ahead.

It's not that the missions are bad, it's just how they're set up/how many missions revolve around the EXACT same thing.

A couple missions of "Drive here, wait for guy, kill guy in chase"

And etc. GTA 5's were more diverse. The only repetitive ones that come to mind are the heist preparation missions.

I liked IV more. More a deep story with emotion that's what I like. I like that kinda stories they also had in Mafia 2. They only part in GTA V were I felt a little emotion was when the family left Michael.

IV, is this even a question? We have been talked about it before too much. And we established one fact. IV has better story besides everything.

Honestly, I don't mind that in V the feds had you by the balls.

V's story was pretty okay, it felt like an average summer blockbuster. My problem with it is that it felt rushed, and seemed like a lot of missions and cutscenes were missing. The story feels more like a summary than an actual plotline.

There's a pre-release screenshot of Trevor looking in his rear-view mirror at the prison. I wouldn't be surprised if in an earlier version of the game,

Brad was still alive, Trevor would break him out, and Brad would be the main antagonist.

There really wasn't a whole lot, and it didn't feel like there was any progress. Rockstar definitely focused on the gameplay more than the story this time. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I just hope they get it right with this Singleplayer DLC coming out, or whenever the next installment in the series arrives.
