BarelyLegal here, king of all things taboo. I'm sitting on the train heading back to University, and was wondering something about you guys. What's your sexual preference? Which side do you bat for? Have you ever experimented? How did people react when you came-out?

Me? I'm bisexual, always have been. I'm with a female partner, though guys equally attract me, too. I hate it when people say it's impossible to be bisexual. Sexuality is a broad spectrum.

Complicated with a very strong lean towards guys. Sexually there's been like three or four girls ever, and hundreds of guys; romantically it's about 80M/20F.

It's not so bad at all. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of like being a non drug user and thinking about heroin; it's an unknown pleasure that people like that typically don't think about because they've never experienced it and then there are the users of the heroin who get that pleasure and are familiar with the feeling when they probably just hear the word "heroin".

Honestly, the only bad thing about it is the societal pressure to form relationships. It's far worse for homosexuals, who can be disowned for their orientation, but for Asexuals - once we reach a certain age, it seems to be that our families kind of 'turn' on us. People begin to think something's wrong and try to cast us in all number of offensive little roles. We suddenly become odd, unusual, untrustworthy and perhaps even criminal.

I've really started to see this for myself, with an ever increasing volume of 'talks' with family members who are concerned about 'the direction of my life'.

 

It's so difficult, because I try to be kind to my family and show them what affection I can - but it means nothing. Now and forever, I have been tarred with the 'weirdo' brush and that mark's never coming off.

 

I tried to come out to my brother, but he just started calling me a fa**ot in front of my whole family. So, as you can imagine, I'm a bit skittish about ever bringing it up again.

That's very interesting, I thought things like that only ever existed in Arab/Middle-Eastern culture. There was a time when my parents started bugging me (mostly indirectly) about the exact same thing. The main reasons are that I usually don't feel the need to share the (usually not-so-successful) exploits that would prove I am looking for women (especially with my parents), and the fact that what they actually value is marriage.

Thankfully I now managed to stop them bugging me.
