Question about next gen consoles

I'm referring to PS and MS. It depends how you feel really. Personally, in my eyes Super Mario is not a damn system seller although it sells well. I've owned a Wii and sold it after 6 weeks because of the lack of games and sh*tty games developed for babies and kids. But I actually blame that on the absolute batsh*t hardware.

Wii is not N64. And even then, you could argue Wii Sports was a big system seller. And Halo 1 would also like a word with you too.

I'm actually surprised the Wii sold so well, because I wasn't a big fan of it, Mario Galaxy was a good game though, and the second one was good as well, but this whole swinging the remote around didn't appeal to me as much, I'm shocked that people can actually play Mario Kart with that wheel, I was playing online and getting beaten by people using a wheel! I have to use the analogue stick all the way. Plus Zelda Twilight priincess wasn't really my best Zelda either, so despite the Wii selling so well, it didn't actually have that many games I enjoyed.

Nintendo seems to maybe have lost a lot of hardcore fans and gained a lot of the type of fans who got the Wii for it's motion control and nothing more, now they need to show the hardcore fans what they've always been about, making trademark games for real fans, not Mums 'n dad's who wanna have swing and a laugh with the controller, since I doubt they'll be buying the Wii U as it seems like the same thing as the Wii to those fans. (if you want to even call them fans)

Now I can't wait to see what Nintendo can really do, and by that I mean making some real defining moments in gaming that will go down in history, I don't care how some people bash Nintendo and say they make kiddy games and they're outdated, because games like Zelda:OoT, Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing and many more go down as my best and most memorable experiences playing games. And they still live up to the hype, only recently I played Diddy Kong racing again (thanks to emulation!) and went through the whole thing as if it was the first time I played it again, never once did I stop and think it looked outdated since the gameplay is what stands out.

One thing about Nintendo is they make very creative worlds in games, very colourful and detailed, I'm definitely going to be purchasing a Wii U sooner or later, as there are must have games on it, and I can also say the same for the PS4, but I think I'll get the Wii U first, the PS4 can wait. Playstation games are good at doing more realistic stuff, Nintendo does a completely different style, that's what I like about them.

That's Link in SSB, looks good enough for me.

I don't care about graphics, Nintendo games are like Pixar movies, they're designed to be enjoyed by anyone and as such generally avoid anything gritty or violent. Generally though, I'm not really interested in realism in graphics, I prefer stylisation. I prefer animated films to live action so for me Wind Waker is still the best looking game I've ever seen.

It's easy for me to skip the next gen consoles for now because at the moment all the games are about people who look like real people doing real things like shooting each other or driving cars. The Wii U does everything I want it to because looking a bit nicer won't make those games any less boring for me. I'm kind of into Titanfall but it would take a lot more than that to convince me to hand over cash to Microsoft for the f*cking horrible Xbone.

I'm getting a wii u when the new zelda comes out (not the dynasty warriors one). I really hope they make a new Diddy Kong Racing and Yoshi's Story too. I'll probably get an xbox one in May.

I'm not fussed over the graphics neither, but at this point in time it's fair to expect something visually impressive, and even though the Wii U isn't that much more powerful than a PS3, we will still get beautiful hi resolution games. I still think Nintendo have a secret trick up there sleeves, they know there's a fanbase for the Wii, and those people are the ones who bought it because it could help you work out whilst having fun, and if they can convince those same people to get a Wii U (by offering something new or whatever) they will sell more.

Anyway, I don't like to see when people poke fun at Nintendo, they have tons of experience when it comes to making games, some people forget this, there will always be a place in my heart for Nintendo as I grew up playing games like Super Mario World, and the N64 was gold, loads of games were awesome, and I'll continue buying there games/consoles.

The thing about Nintendo is the they're not really competing with Sony and MS, they're their own thing. That's their motto if I'm not mistaken for the Wii/Wii U "Don't compete, be the only one" or something. Like that.

I grew up with Nintendo since the SNES and the Wii was the one system I was most excited for. It's just too bad that it never reached its full potential and now they seem to be ditching motion controls almost entirely. It makes me sad to think that we could go from Skyward Sword, which had near flawless and fully realized motion controls, to back to the same old stuff with a touch screen - basically a non handheld DS with HD graphics.

I bought a PS4, and so far I like it, always been a Sony fan, even though I had 2 xbox and bought at least 4 xbox 360 because of the RLOD, but maybe be planning on buying a Xbox one depending of the exclusive that it will get.

I think it's the Windows 8 dashboard, that makes me a little hesitant for now.

But either way, I think that there is no need ton buy a next-gen console now, (even if I couldn't wait).

People tend to forget about the Wii U too. Even if it's not feeling like next-gen graphically, I like it sometimes, and enjoy playing it with my girlfriend, People with kids can find a good option (in that console) too while getting the next-gen title. I think the gamepad is a great addition to the gameplay. Nintendo franchises can be fun a times too.

Nintendo need to bring something new out of the locker because the Wii U pretty much justified that their fans are losing interest in their games.

Nintendo have been in the gaming market for longer than either Sony or MS. And their franchises like Mario and Zelda have been in the gaming industry more than Halo and Uncharted. Nintendo aren't really bringing anything new to the table, Look at Naughty Dog with TLOU for instance.

The reason Wii sold so well was that it was quite a revolution. Playing games with a motion controller seemed to have appealed to everyone. The games from Sony and MS were more 'hardcore' whilst the Wii was suited for everyone. It was like a family console and it was for all ages. I can also say that this was maybe why GTA didn't release on the Wii at all.

GTA is a hardcore game and when Rockstar made a game called 'Body Harvest' for the N64, Nintendo were reluctant to let it release due to it's amount of violence and GTA has far more violence than Body Harvest.

The Wii U lacked innovation and firepower. It is an 8th gen console but it just didn't seem like it. Unless Nintendo pull off something incredible, they could end up like Sega.

You are right, except Nintendo ending up like Sega, which is something far too many people are assuming.

Nintendo are still making a lot of profit off of the 3DS, and even the Wii U is making some profit in any case. They have made a bucket load of money from the Wii too. Sega went out of the console game at a time where they blew away a lot of their money on things like the Mega CD, Saturn, and the Dreamcast didn't do particularly well neither, Shenmue (which may have been one of my favourite games) was another loss for them. To compare Sega to the situation Nintendo is in with the Wii U, or thinking Nintendo need to 'pull of something incredible' is just a clear example of people's ignorance.

Whilst the Wii U may not be selling as well as they hoped, and whether it continues to go wrong or not will not determine the future of Nintendo, they still have a lot of money to fix things up, maybe if they release another console for the generation after this which fails and lose more popularity then we could start to ask questions, but for now I think Nintendo are safe financially.

It isn't ignorance at all. Yes the 3DS sold better than the PS Vita but compared to the DS it didn't sell quite as expected. The thing is Nintendo are in the same situation as Sega were 10-12 years ago. The PS4 is selling fast, the XB 1 has received postive reception despite it's poor sales compared to the PS4. Interest is diverting to the PS4 and the XB 1. 12 years back the PS2 released and so did the Xbox, MS's first console and the Dreamcast did not sell well. The Xbox did not sell as well as the PS2 but still received a good reception

I don't think Nintendo are in same position as sega was in 10 years ago. They still have $10 billion in their bank balance.

Their main problem is their arrogance, not listening to their fans, a very weak hardware (based on spec), a lack of proper marketing (many people who own Wii doesn't know Wii U exist).

I know that I only said they could end up like Sega, if their next-console isn't something very good.

This. Nintendo are not in the same position Sega were in, just due to this fact alone, they have a lot of money.

I think given some time, Nintendo can still draw in those people who were attracted to the Wii originally, they just need to get the message across that the Wii U can offer more of what people liked about the Wii, and that was having fun in games like Wii Sports and stuff that multiple people can enjoy. How Nintendo choose to do their business is down to them, and they are business minded people, plus they are skilled in what they do, whether people think their material is aimed at children or whatever, fact is they create entertaining games and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

So it's easy to try and add 2 and 2 together and say Nintendo are in the position Sega were in back then because the Wii U isn't doing as well as the XboxOne or PS4, and the Dreamcast wasn't doing as well as the Xbox or PS2 so that's why it's like that, sorry but it's just not as straight forward as that.
