So, a modder just gave me a billion dollars in GTA: Online. Or it could have been 100 million, there's not much difference, when you have this much money it doesn't really matter...

But wait! This isn't a gloating thread. Nor am I angry at a hacker for removing what is the primary drive of this game, making money. It does make things a little less easy, now I will have to play purely for the purpose of finding fun gameplay, there are no more fake rewards, or a drive to achieve them. It's like GTA IV again, where all you got for grinding up to rank 10 was a gold star and some nice clothes. Money was immaterial. A lot of you guys complained there was "nothing to do" in that game, there were few rewards or structure, you played because you were looking for a good time ;)

No, I'm just a little disappointed at R* for creating the exact opposite of that environment. There's plenty to do, but little of it actually contains much replayability for the pursuit of the elusive GTA dream, a dream of having "fun". Don't get me wrong, GTA Online is fun, but sometimes it can be hard to sustain the entertainment due to a need to grind for cash. Somewhere in the middle would have been good, where there was some structure to the world and not everything was simply given to you (after all, many players don't have the imagination to make that last) but also not the point we have here when it's boring to play because things aren't accessible to legit players without hours of grinding. It's a lame cash grab by R* to make this game boring as s**t unless you pay for Shark cards. Shame on them, we never would have expected this from our beloved GTA...

Anyway, back to the topic of hackers. In GTA IV they were villainous, with nothing to do but set people on fire, lock them in prison, spawnkill them with explosions etc. A very small percentage helped players out with spawning cool cars or making unobtrusive ramps but that was about it. They were mostly asses. So far that hasn't happened to me in V, the only modder has given me a vast sum of money, essentially setting things back to the GTA IV style of freedom, no money required :) I've heard some of you complain that it ruins the point of the game but if you play a game to feel accomplished about making virtual money then i'm sorry, you're wasting your time.

What do you think of modders in V? Heroic figures standing up to the corporate greed and poor game production of Rockstar, or dicks trying to ruin your fun? Have you met modders of the V variety, those who grief with invincibility etc? (glitchers do not count)

Discuss what you think of modders in GTA Online!

P.S, I am willing to share this money, my PSN is O07_eleven.

What do mean by hacker/modder in the poll?

Hacker being someone who flies around killing the lobby, HACKING everyone?

Or...

Someone who modified GAME FILES to their advantage, for example giving out money.

Modders. Apology for the poor terminology, I started of calling them hackers then realised that was inaccurate halfway through this post, guess I didn't change everything. I'm talking about people who've downloaded simple trainers onto their console, giving them the ability to manipulate functions within the games coding. In GTA V all I've seen is giving out money and some vehicles, although in IV modders could spawn objects as well, kill players at will etc, change weapon damage and effects etc.

Cheaters ruin the game in many different ways, and probably delay content/online features, not sure how they could be considered "heroes" in any way.

Say your idea of enjoyment is doing things that would otherwise require this in game money which can take hours to grind. You can either grind for hours and make the reward not worth the repetitive gameplay, or you can pay Rockstar your hard earned real money since they are a greedy company who have deliberately made the game difficult to be accessible for the casual demographic and not entertaining for hardcore gamers. This way you give them more $$$ or else you're stuffed. I'd say if a modder gave you money to play the game how you want to play for free without wasting time or money then they're pretty admirable, breaking the system of unethical pay for play business models. Well R* has indirect P4P but they've designed the game to be boring for those who do.

This isn't really an issue for me, but it might be for some people.

They didn't design the game to be difficult because they are greedy, do you have any clue what the word progression means. This game was supposed to be this hard when it was first released, it was extremely easy it's just that people were too trash at this game to take advantage of it.

Modders do the following:

Delay the BAWSDAQ release

Delay a casino (if there even was going to be one)

Probably delay other content

Force R* to slow content releases to fix pre-existing bugs/glitches

Give tanks to people who wouldn't have them otherwise

Give unlimited ammo/explosives to people who wouldn't have them otherwise

Give people cars that cause people to lag or dc.

Gee how admirable.

Biohazard Abyss

TL;DR no offense OP.

As long as modders aren't screwing up the game for anyone else. When they give people money, they're not doing it to piss people off.

If I was a generous modder I wouldn't want to message 15 players "Hey you want some money?"

F*ck that, I understand why they do it. I do hate the modders/hackers who use sh*t like invincibility though and engage in PvP against others or the ones with rocket-launching Uzis from The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Some modders are cool as sh*t though. I remember meeting one in GTAIV that spawned a train car in the airport and built stunt ramps and sh*t so the whole lobby went wild. It was amazing.

Wow, the threshold for villainy certainly has dropped these days. The League of Moustache-Twirlers must be hard up for new recruits or something.

Hero's for sure. I was given money on two occasions, first I got 370 million then two days later I got a cool 1 billion. I was sick of grinding for cash, I can only get on my Xbox for maybe 3-4 hrs per week and it was taking me forever to make money and the game was almost dead for me. Now I have this cash I can do what I want, I can play missions I enjoy for fun and also not worry about money when I feel like going on a rampage.

All hail the modders!

I disapprove every single kind of modder.

I remember GTA 4. I tought we wanted something else.

Come on. I would say the Chrome Adder is the most beautiful car before saying modders are good.

When I hear that there are modders online I cant stop asking myself if it will turn like GTA 4 or worse. Its my nightmare and just thinking about it makes me want to get up and scream a big "NOOOOOO!!!"

If you really think about it everything involving lies or cheating could be considered bad in a way.

Also when peoples get power it can get really messy. Some would say that they never and will never hurt anybody with their power but thats false. If you hacked the game in order to get an unfair advantage that was never meant to be in the game then I doubt you wont use your hacks to ruin atleast one persons day.

I liked having all kinds of stunt jumps and ramps and T-Rexes in GTA IV.

It mostly depends on the modder's psychology of their actions.

If they intend to use their actions for selfish deeds such as "god mode", freezing a lobby, or other general stuff like that, then yeah, that modder is a bad guy.

If they intend to use their powers for "good" by (arguably) gifting cash, helping the community get the vehicle they want in (once again, arguably), or other stuff, then they aren't bad.

Modders are essentially video game "supers". They have powers that regs dont and it isn't the fact that they have these powers that defines them, but what they do with them. Watching sh*t tons of Superhero movies taught me that.

"You die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

"Some modders just want to see the world burn."

"Great power comes with great responsibility."

Yep. I'm a nerd when it comes to quotes. Thank you.

If R* had handled the online well and kept control of the economy, had there not been glitches such as the LSC one, I would be pissed off that modders were introducing such large amounts of cash into the game.

I'm not, game was already ruined before this started.

That's pretty much my opinion right there. Perfect. I'd prefer that modders essentially scrap this failed economy idea. It was a fail because of the glitches and the whole concept is not enjoyable, the way they designed it.

Money is a means to an end. After I made my millions originally ( pre-patch Rooftop Rumble) ,I stopped caring about money and started just playing missions for fun, sh*ts, and giggles. Having a good time should be the primary drive for playing a video game.

With that said, I don't mind modders. They do their thing and I do mine, neither of which is really mutually exclusive or particularly affective of the other.

The money side has been great been having so much more fun since. Now I can work on leveling up the way I like with missions and races. Cannot understand why people would want to level hack.

Now every one has adders and entity's its good to see lots of people trying to stand out with different modded vehicles.!

It's a misconception that a modder/hacker is 'giving' you something. They're deliberately trying to f*ck your game up. They're hacking into the game and leaving thier mark on your game 'internally', anyone who's happy to have someone dictate how their game runs is a mug. It's no different to them hacking your website and 'giving' you a virus. If they could hack your game and strip you of all your asset's, they would happily do that just as easy as they 'give' you' game currency.
