So Where Are You From?

Recommended Posts

John Smith

I remember a thread like this a while back, but since there are quite a few new(ish) members around these parts, and since the updated format took away the flags under our usernames, I thought I'd make a new one.

So where were you born?

Where do you currently reside?

Do you like where you live?

The US is a big place, so if you're American, then please state your....er, state.

Me? I'm from gid auld sunny Scotland, where our sports teams are pish, and the smack flows like fine Courvoisier. But at least we invented GTA. Lived here all my life, and while I don't have much complaints (other than the sh*te weather), I'll definitely be investing in a holiday home in the future.

So you?

New York. Born in Brookhaven and raised in Riverhead. Which part of Scotland and you from? The first of my ancestor's over came from Aberdeen, I think.

Born in Poland.

Raised in Poland.

No, I don't like it there. I'd rather be American, British, Scandinavian or, I don't know, f*cking Japanese.

Florida, but suburban, not coastal or backwoodsy.

Welcome to Poinciana, Florida, suspiciously similar charmingly modern homes, and they're only an hours drive from trashy beautiful Orlando!

It's not so much better, but I consider Kissimmee to be my real home. I always did most of my childhood things in Kissimmee (because Poinciana was just houses and undeveloped woods), and they threw great parades, and had this neat little park that they show off in one of the Larry The Cable Guy movies. I can't find a picture of the park, but it had two small lighthouses, and a nice little ice cream trailer, and I spent a few weeks worth of my childhood in it.

New York eh, NYC is in my top five cities to visit before I kick it. Such an awesome place with so much to see and do. Do you visit the Big Apple much yourself? Is this a dumb question?

I'm from the county of Fife. It's sandwiched in between Edinburgh and Dundee. Famous for birthing that colossal c*nt Gordon Brown and not much else. Pretty f*cking boring actually, but Edinburgh's great, and not too far away.

Aberdeen's great if you enjoy the smell of fish and being stabbed. It's Glasgows northern sister.

I don't visit that often. Not much for me to do there. If you go to the popular sections like Times Square it feels like your dollars lose half their value compared to the rest of the state. I do want to work there once I finish college, though.

I'd like to visit the UK and Ireland just to be able to see where my ancestors came from, would be interesting.

Benelux - UK

I don't plan on living here for much longer than a few years, but considering I pretty much lived in hotels for quite some time prior to now, I'm happy to have a place I can call home.

Since you're not that far from the center of Detroit, do you know what's going on with the whole bankruptcy thing?

Wow Universetwisters we could hang out sometime and go to the pizza paradiso in oldtown.

Baseball is the lame version of Cricket anyway so being a Boston or NY fan doesn't make any difference.

Born in Bitburg, Germany and am a German and USA citizen. ;) I now live in north westernSan Antonio, Texas and it is okay, I would prefer Houston. San Antonio is interesting downtown and on the north side of town. Usually see some cool cars, though Houston has more.

I haven't looked too much into it, but my political science professor lives there and she told us it happened mainly because of Detroit being too far into debt to do anything, so filing for bankruptcy will make it easier for the city to wipe out all the debt and start doing things like demolishing the tens of thousands of abandoned homes that are just sitting there piling up with junkies and gang bangers. Detroit also has a terrible emergency service response time because of the lack of emergency vehicles. and they even went as far as to leaving many street lights off to save electricity and many other things.

I'm not sure how well the city is doing now in comparison to a while back. I know that more abandoned homes are being demolished and emergency vehicles have been donated to the city so there's SOME improvement as far as I know.:ph34r:
